The Gateway District is a pop-punk supergroup from Minneapolis that features current or ex-members of notable bands like (The Soviettes, The Salteens, Banner Pilot, Dear Landlord, Off With Their Heads, Rivethead, and American Monsters). Did you just shit your pants? Don't worry, I understand, my 4 month old daughter does the same thing. So, yeah, on The Gateway District's recently released album, Some Days You Get The Thunder , the band burns through 13 songs of gruff but bouncy and melodic female-fronted Midwestern pop punk with a bit of unexpected country twang on 2 of the album's final 3 [...]
Hosted by a character named DJ Lance Rock, the series features a mix of live-action segments featuring cartoonish costumed characters--Muno (the red cyclops), Foofa (the pink flower bubble), Brobee (a little green monster), Toodee (the blue cat-dragon) and Plex (the magic yellow robot)--and many short animated sketches and musical numbers.[4] In its first two seasons, the show featured a wide variety of guests, including Jack Black, Leslie Hall, The Shins, The Aggrolites, Cornelius, Biz Markie, Shiny Toy Guns, Supernova, Mark Mothersbaugh, Rahzel, The Postmarks, Sugarland, Tony Hawk, The Roots, Low, Laila Ali, Elijah Wood, Mýa, The Salteens [...]

Things you should know about Reverie Sound Revue : 1) They're on Boompa, the same label that produced power-pop heroes the Salteens; 2) They are, thus, Canadian 3) Which might explain why they're a chilly, catchy chip off fellow northerners Metric's sleek indie-pop block. Crisp and air-conditioned, "An Anniversary Away" is the perfect jam to cool off your otherwise sweaty summer playlists. Reverie Sound Revue - "An Anniversary Away": mp3 (Reverie Sound Revue's self-titled full-length is due June 23 on Boompa )

As many of you have noticed, we've revamped a bit here at MFR. As a result, some of our archiving has gone a bit goofy. Which many of you have noticed in regards to my "On the Road" mixes (thanks for all of the emails and tweets, you know who you guys are). So, I thought I would quickly repost all of the On the Road mixes (not 8, because I just posted that) in this one place. These date back quite a while, so I hope you enjoy them! On the Road Mix No. 7 [...]

Nickelodeon's Yo Gabba Gabba! , one of our favorite recent children shows featuring four friendly monsters, and a robot - aimed at teaching preschoolers "simple life lessons" using music and pop culture references - has released a CD compilation (available exclusively on iTunes ) that includes many of the original bands that have performed and guested live on the show including The Ting-Tings, The Salteens, The Roots, The Little Ones and Mark Kozelek among others--each song an original composition to go along with the show's original content. Clips from different segments [...]

Everyone's favorite weirdo kids show, "Yo Gabba Gabba!" , came back for yet another wild season of dancing robots, fluffies and celebrities this past September and if the first season's guests are anything to go by (I'm From Barcelona, Datarock, Of Montreal, The Roots, The Shins, Hot Hot Heat, Jimmy Eat World), there's going to be way more fun to be had brought to you by one of wackiest minds in music, The Aquabats' Christian Jacobs. A CD's just been put out exclusively on iTunes of some of the most memorable songs from season one. The Ting [...]

If you haven't checked out the show Yo Gabba Gabba! yet, borrow one of your friends' or relatives' kids so you have an excuse (if you need one) and check it out post-haste. You can catch it on Nick Jr. or the Noggin network. It's hosted by DJ Lance Rock (that's him in the orange suit and furry hat holding the boom box) and includes his pals Muno (the red cyclops), Foofa (the pink flower bubble), Brobee (described only as "the little green one"), Toodee (the blue [...]

Don't be fooled by the title, there's actually a LOT of cool stuff going on that I found out about this weekend. I finally had more than 5 minutes to write a decent post, so let's get on to the cool stuff. Take, for example, this cool iPhone app. called Bloom co-created by Brian Eno...let's just say it's pretty freakin' cool: From " theappleblog ": "Seemingly not content with having fathered an entire musical genre, pioneered generative music, produced U2's Where The [...]
Jimmy Eat World recently visited Yo Gabba Gabba and recorded a version of their track, "Beautiful Day" for the program. As you may recall, Yo Gabba Gabba is the award-winning children's television show co-created by Christian Jacobs of The Aquabats . Previous guests have included Leslie Hall, The Shins, The Aggrolites, Cornelius, Biz Markie, Shiny Toy Guns, Supernova, Mark Mothersbaugh, Rahzel, The Postmarks, Sugarland, Tony Hawk, Low, Laila Ali, Elijah Wood, Mýa, The Salteens and Jacobs' own band, The Aquabats.
UK sensations the Ting Tings covered Altered Images' "Happy Birthday" on Yo Gabba Gabba! yesterday on the show's second season premiere. Embedded video seems impossible to find for the moment, so go to Jezebel and watch a clip . The song is on the f orthcoming Yo Gabba Gabba full-length CD, which is out in mid-October and also features Tahiti 80, the Salteens, Aquabats and all of the lovably bizarre songs from the TV show. Here's Altered Images' original song and a couple of more after the jump, because [...]

With so many artists now escaping the traditional structure of annual release dates in order to reveal new music on a monthly basis, it's always a treat to find an outstanding band that has the presence of mind to take this trend and make it work in their favour... with two songs a month to boot!! I'd like to think we pay close attention to updated information on the musicians we feature but,
The last Salteens album was released way back in 2003, so you'd be forgiven if you thought the Vancouver indie pop combo was dead and buried, or at least missing in action. That's not entirely false, either—the band admits they didn't really record anything for four years. But since the beginning of the new year, a reformed Salteens have been trying a new release tactic: instead of a new album, they plan to release two-track EPs online every month. The best part of it all is that the tracks will only cost you an e-mail address (presumably so they can [...]
