Here's the song that caused Tipper Gore to have a Victorian-era style hemorrhage and start slapping Parental Advisory stickers on anything resembling a four letter word, Darling Nikki by Prince . Fun part was that no marketing team in the world could have dreamt up better publicity than those little stickers did. BTW Is the PMRC still around? Leading the purple proselytizers today is my pick, Love Is All , with their Yeah Yeah Yeahs/Cristina influenced screecher. Kudos to Xlover [...]
The Delegation 's "Oh Honey" is an important landmark in the evolution of skank music in the 20th century. If not for this song and it's lasting impact on bitches and sluts worldwide, the group would probably fade into obscurity. This UK group was active during the 70s and 80s, releasing a couple songs that charted on both sides of the Atlantic before fading out in the 90s. This song, which went to #5 in the U.S., marked their biggest stateside hit. In it's first rediscovery, in 1991 by Three Times Dope , [...]

Sheesh, some people are so hard to get a hold of. I mean, really, who does this guy think he is? Oh, he's DJ Mehdi ? Acceptable. Wait... DJ FUCKING MEHDI?! Yep. And here's a 4.7MB image which is totally going to raise my hosting prices and clog up my bandwidth, but I don't care. It's a new image of a music god. Look at him. Just... just look at him. [...]

You may remember that a while ago I blogged about Mustard Pimp compiling an astonishing 12 hour mix - well the sneaky French duo have now topped that with an epic 24 hour compilation mix made up of nearly every genre going! It's all in the honour of the new series of 24 which is about to start on Sky. I really didn't follow the last series, I tried but it's hard work. Seriously, how many times does Jack need to save the world? Jean Claude Van Damme wouldn't have had these issues, he'd simply kick [...]

Mustard Pimp have topped their 12 hour hercules mixtape with one which lasts a whole bloody day! Massive amount of music from many different genres, including hip-hop, rock and most dance sub-genres. Our crazy friends from France have done it again. This time they outdone anything we could ever think of. Mustard Pimp goes in the footstep of the popular tv-show 24 and produces a 24 h mixtape. It is crazy, but in a good way. The best thing is that you can enjoy them in the same way that you enjoy 24, hour for hour. Download the 24 episodes here (mediafire folder) Look at the 800+ tracklist after the jump. Hour 1 1)Mustard [...]
![[DECADEnce] The Top 50 Movies of the 00s](http://cache.elbo.ws/posts/2241170_lg.jpg)
DECADEnce continues this week with my list of the Top 50 Movies of the 00s. There were quite a large number of high quality films released in the past decade, and choosing only 50 to fill out this list was actually somewhat tough. The good news is that I'm very happy with this final product, and if you're a movie fan like I am, I hope you'll agree with me. I haven't bothered to count how many films I see each year, let alone across an entire decade, but I can promise you that with my average of 5 movies [...]

( I made this and I approve of the lens flare ) I never really understood why some blogs and music sites put their "best of" lists out before the year was actually over, that might help explain why our Best of 2009 post is coming a bit after the new year. That and waiting on Kid Color to get his list finished (jokin'). But seriously, this past year doesn't really need any kind of special recap, it was just a good year for music. From remixes to albums, there was much to celebrate in our community. I [...]

The ML interviewee and Beat Drop contributor just dropped Trunk Muzik, his third mixtape. We've talked about Yela quite a lot lately, but really this cat deserves all the praise. This is an incredibly strong, concise mixtape with great beats, great features and great rapping. Yela handles slow numbers and double-time trunk rattlers equally well. "Pop The Trunk" is clinic in storytelling and I think Yela actually outshined Bun on "Good To Go". "Love Is Not Enough" is heartbreaking, the best fusion of singing and rapping on [...]

My best friend fell in love when I played her Slaid Cleaves' "Cry" from his latest album, "Everything You Love Will Be Taken Away." It's flat-out gorgeous. My friend and I both love Cleaves' lyrics, too; they're clever, wry and often poignant. The Krayolas' new album, "Long Leaf Pine (No Smack Gum)," also got a ton of play in my house this year. When I wrote about the album in June, I said "Corrido Twelve Heads in a Bag," a song about 12 people murdered and beheaded by gangsters who were retaliating against the [...]

-- In case you didn't hear, Silvio Berlusconi (the billionaire Italian prime minister who owns half the country's media) got mashed in the face with a miniature statue of Milan's cathedral. No doubt he will play politically on this (probably quite successfully), provided as he is with a voice considerably stronger than the Roma people who have received compulsory fingerprinting of all adults under his government and intimidation and rabid scapegoating from his party. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say they've received a bit more than a few broken teeth as a result of his [...]

by Andrew Frisicano Mode Records has etched its name in the annals of music history, producing the avant-garde and modern classical music of influential composers such as John Cage, Morton Feldman, Iannis Xenakis, and Harry Partch. In its twenty-fifth year, they are hosting a six-hour benefit concert featuring very special performances by Philip Glass and John Zorn and a rare performance of John Cage 's "Concert for Piano [...]
Modern electronic-rock music, inaugurated in the early 1960s, is, and always has been, a joint enterprise of British military intelligence and Satanic cults. On the one side, the Satanists control the major rock groups through drugs, sex, threats of violence, and even murder. On the otherside, publicity, tours, and recordings are financed by record companies connected to British military intelligence circles. Both sides are intimately entwined with the biggest business in the world, the international drug trade. The so-called "rock stars" are pathetic puppets caught in a much larger scheme. From the moment they receive their first recording royalties, the [...]

Like New Year's Eve , Halloween is another holiday that a lot of bands choose to celebrate in style. There's just something about mixing the live concert experience with all the fun and choas of Halloween that really brings out the freaks. While most bands typically play into the Halloween vibe in some way, touring bands often approach Halloween as an opportunity to really create a unique live music event. Just as we did with our New Year's Eve concert round-up , we've compiled a list of Halloween concerts that will be going on this weekend (see below [...]
