Canadian rapper k-os will not be releasing a follow-up to his fourth studio album, last year's Yes! - at least not a traditional one. Instead, he will be taking a page out of the Smashing Pumpkins' book and releasing songs one at a time. As he recently told MuchMusic, he now wants to "stay immediate." Per CHARTattack , k-os further explained his thinking in a press release last week. "I'm not going to make any more albums," he said. "I think we're just going to drop singles for a couple years [...]

Well, I think it's time to get that damn picture of Train off the top of the page. Blogging time has been limited lately, but I'm hoping that I'll have some consistent posts for all of you a few times a week going forward. First up, Smashing Pumpkins news. I'm sure most of you are scratching your heads at this - after all, Zeitgeist pretty much sucked. And by pretty much sucked, I mean it was quite possibly the worst musical disappointment I'd had in the past 5 years. The Pumpkins were always one [...]
Smart studios, home to records by Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins and Sonic Youth, closes its doors.

L.A. popgazers Sky Parade have found psych-rock's sweet spot on their new single, "I Should Be Coming Up (But I Keep Coming Down)," a three-minute fantasy-vs.-reality lament that pits an urgent rhythmic churn against giddy washes of synths. The song, produced by Courtney Taylor-Taylor of the Dandy Warhols and featuring the Dandys' Zia McCabe on keyboards, is the first off Sky Parade's forthcoming third full-length, "Intoxicated." The album features appearances by McCabe, Dizzy Reed (Guns N' Roses) and Jeff Schroeder (Smashing Pumpkins, the Lassie Foundation). ||| Download: "I Should Be Coming Up" [...]
It seems that selling out vast global tours and shifting records by the ton isn't enough to rubber stamp a band's status as a true great. However what does set the big boys apart from the rest is being deemed worthy to be written into the script for an episode of hit American TV cartoon, The Simpsons. Cameo appearances have become a significant part of the show's appeal over the years, and along with an assortment of athletes and movie stars, some of the world's most stellar musicians have been featured. The likes of U2, the Rolling Stones, Red Hot [...]

Filed under: News , R.I.P. During his life and throughout his influential career, Vic Chesnutt always had a number of musician friends in high places -- he was covered by everyone from Madonna to Smashing Pumpkins and he collaborated in the studio with an intimidating list of esteemed artists that's too long to get into here. Most recently, his band -- in the studio and on the road -- included members of Fugazi , Godspeed! You Black Emperor and Silver Mt. Zion [...]

Filed under: News , Video Nirvana versus Smashing Pumpkins in a game of Twister like you've never seen before has been found on YouTube. The hilarious three minute video see 90s grunge gods Kurt Cobain and Billy Corgan (with long hair!) joined by fellow Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins members. The bands throw Crisco -- a brand of fat used in cooking -- at each other, whilst Krist Novoselic plays stripped down to his underwear. Also in the [...]

I met Marius Drogsås Hagen a few years ago in Norway, in a small town north of Oslo. The common denominator which got us talking all night was, of course, music. In spite of Jaqueline , his 'main' band, starting to get a lot of exposure at the time, he was developing ideas for two projects (one a solo project called Team Me , the second a band, SiN , started with Tord from the Wombats ). Three years and many written songs later, I followed him into a hijacked school he [...]
ah the sheer bloody giddy glee, the joyous joy of this tonight. three guitars. one drummer. one sampler. two voices. two saxomaphones. one trumpet. one trombone. one cowbell. and christ knows what else. kinda hard to describe how far removed from whatever anarcho-somethingorother seventies crass-esque cliches you might have in yr head, sounds you might have in yr ears, upon basic description of the ex . had conversation at bar with youngling who seemed to be expecting some socialist worker vendor bellowing marxist slogans into his face whilst hammering three chords out [...]
With every listen, the Pixies ' 1989 sophomore record Doolittle just gets better and better. Truly, there's no mistaking the pure genius behind this album, released just over two decades ago. And within that time, Doolittle has rightfully earned its place (for many) as one of the most influential albums of all time. Embracing its own unique and eclectic sound, Doolittle shifts from fast-paced aggression to melodic temperament with the quiet, graceful ease of a ballerina performing a pirouette, refusing to halt for even a moment's breath. From beginning to end, Doolittle [...]

It's not easy to put yourself out there and submit your work to a lit zine or a publisher. I find myself becoming increasingly interested in what prompts a writer to submit to a specific publisher over another. I was recently talking with local writer Brandon Will, and he mentioned a list he had created of journals he is going to submit to. I had never pictured it that way, but I image more writers operate that way. So, when I find a writer like Kathryn Regina who has already been published by two of my favorite presses [...]

Youtube unearths a grunge love-in as the 90s legends bond over a game of Twister.

Lately, in between listens to the new stuff that is constantly flooding my inbox, I have been turning back the clock to a simpler time in my life by listening to the alternative staples I grew up on. Nostalgia seems to have its hooks deep within me and every time I flash back via one record or another I remember my teen years with fond memories. Of course we know most of those fond memories are bullshit, sanded down by the annals of time to resemble what we want to believe our teen years stood for. In actuality those years [...]
Face it, It's Blitz! is the album that never dies. From new singles to trendy videos, there's always a reason to either keep it spinning or continue its rotation on your daily iPod shuffling. It's a nice story, really. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs return with an album that not only advances its sound, but enhances it, too. That's why we're never sick of hearing "Zero", "Head Will Roll", or "Soft Shock", and why we're probably going to listen to "Skeletons" again and again - especially after this video. Shot in [...]

Now, my time-travelling friends , let's go back to 1979, or at least to 1995 when this song was released on mammoth chart-topping double album, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness by The Smashing Pumpkins. I have to say, I was never really a Pumpkins fan. As a kid, I found Corrigan's voice whiney and grating. In spite of that, I always liked this song and the video that went with it. Also, strangely, I think I like the band's sound now, as an adult, more than I ever did when [...]

Glaswegian alt-rockers Twin Atlantic have had quite a meteoric rise since forming in 2007, having in the space of just a few years gone from practicing in drummer Craig Kneale's dining room to supporting bands like Biffy Clyro , the Subways and the Smashing Pumpkins . Their fans are so dedicated, they've even been known to get tattoos of the band's lyrics and logo. When you listen to their new single, 'Lightspeed,' their continued success and their fans' adoration seems completely natural. The song throbs with energy and there's [...]
