Tonight's song comes from John O'Regan, and his indie-pop/electronic-folk (yeah I'm genre tagging something electronic-folk) side-project Diamond Rings; his main project is fronting the Toronto-based indie-rock act The D'Ubervilles. As far as I can tell, the ridiculously charming All Yr Songs can only be found on a 7-inch vinyl split-release featuring Diamond Rings and Kingston, Ontario's PS I Love You. Unfortunately, said release has been sold out and I have no leads on how to get more music from Diamond Rings. If anyone has any information on a forthcoming release from the band, let me know. Until then, you [...]

:Kinema: Thrown together across an epic European road trip during the summer of 2007 Dom Ashton, Andy Nelson and Ross Flight discovered their shared love for music, laptops and famous actresses. :Kinema: have developed their sound over the last 18 months, combining elements of Yacht Rock, Soul and Contemporary Pop and Dance music into something sounding like Off The Wall-era Michael Jackson being re-imagined by a 21st Century Indie band. Marc "the Guv" spinning all night pre-sale tickets available at the bar 9:30 DOORS $5 adv | $7 doors| 21+ "The Mood Swings sound often conjures up summer fun and garage rock vibes, but the band never falls into the cutesy cliches of girl group convention. Sebastian Mlynarski When I rounded up all the bits of information around Holly Miranda's solo project back in January , I had no notion that interest in it would eclipse that given to her main band, The Jealous Girlfriends . But her more atmospheric approach is certainly more in line with what people expect/want to hear wafting out of Brooklyn these days and it has apparently tickled more ears than the Girlfriends' heaver, more guitar-driven rock did. So while the Girlfriends take a deserved break, Miranda has been busy - [...]
Summer Dregs Genre: Electro-pop From: Chattanooga, Tennessee United States Summer Dregs is the result of Carl Cadwell collaborating with a group of hyper talented musicians in an effort to prove that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. The band have chosen their name [...]

Interview with Rhymesayers artist Toki Wright – recorded live at The Metro in Chicago, Illinois on November 18 th , 2009. The Fresh Air Tour featuring Brother Ali, Evidence, Toki Wright and BK-One. Being a fan of hip-hop for some time now I have seen quite a few hip-hop shows and have met quite a few artists. I can't enough how true and respectful and giving the artists on the Fresh Air Tour are. This was easily one of the best hip-hop shows I have seen in my life. A total party from start to [...]
The little-documentary-that-could The Story Of Anvil , about the band that was like a "real life Spinal Tap" right down to having a drummer named Robb Reiner, stole everyone's heart this past year. Except for people whose hearts are made of stone. Or metal. Well if your heart was made of \m/ metal then it probably stole your heart, too. But if your heart is made of Oscar-material precious metal, then it didn't steal your heart, it made your heart snub it from its rightful place on the 15-film Best Documentary Academy Award shortlist (via [...]
Story by Adam Daniels Photography by Dorothy Hong "Do you need a drink?"
"Yes, I need four double whiskeys and four PBRs." It was Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson's record release show at Williamsburg's Union Pool, and while he was among a roomful of friends, he was not at ease. Robinson's former fiancé obliged the request, assuming it was on behalf of the entire band. This was not the case. Robinson wasn't a household name in indie rock at the time. But he had a lot of the pieces in place [...]
Having my blog has introduced me to tons of bands. Sometimes if I am lucky enough, I have been able to become friends with members of bands. It is like a dream come true to chat it out with real artists!! One band that I have stayed in close contact with is Local Natives . I have been addicted to their beautiful tunes every since I received my first email about them. It's all history since then! I couldn't just be there friend though; it was time to do some professional blogging! Matt Frazier, the drummer of [...]

Channeling Fleetwood Mac's musical stylings with a hint of late-era Beatles, Family of the Year braid catchy melodies, stellar male/female vocals and personal folk tales to create some of the happiest and saddest music you've ever heard. Opening up with "Feel Good Track Of Rosemead" it's a delicate harmony and rock guitar combo, very much like The New Pornographers, or The Polyphonic Spree. Actually, it's singers Joe Keefe (formerly of The Billionaires) and Vanessa Long who harmonize and get lots of milage out of their pop chemistry and aural dynamics. Fans of The Beach Boys' Pet Sounds who hear the [...]
With the 2010 edition of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival scheduled to get underway a little less than five months from now, we are finally starting to get an idea of what the lineup will look like. According to a source with knowledge of the festival's plans, Muse will serve as a headliner for the Indio, CA event, set to take place from April 16-18. This will mark the British outfit's first appearance at Coachella since 2004 and will come amidst what will likely be a summer chock-full of tour dates in support of [...]
There are some crazy things happening here in MTL thanks to the good people at M for Montreal . I'll be doing a better dissection of the conference, bands and antics later - honestly, Miracle Fortress fans are in for an (electro) shock and The RAA own every stage they play now - but there are a couple bands that are new to me that I'm super excited to check out. One band is Silly Kissers . These youngens are all about the shimmering, sunshine-y electro pop that makes you want to dance - [...]

The summer of 2003 was a hot one in eastern Washington, and my concrete bunker of an apartment contained the heat like no other. Granted, the above image wasn't shot by yours truly until 2004, but it sure seemed hot enough to ignite even the least combustible of items. I wrapped up my undergraduate that December, which was cold as Antarctica, and upon that milestone I moved to Seattle. It was a good year for the Northwest; many of my favorite albums came from Seattle labels like Sub Pop and Barsuk. As for the list, I've [...]

Do you feel the cream? Frankly, we do, cause we're still on quite the high after catching our beloved queen of electroclash, Peaches , for the third time this year...so yeah, we're feeling all sorts of rad. The hardest touring woman in music brought her dynamic, and revitalized, new stage show through Terminal 5 last Saturday, November 14, with all sorts of tricks and treats up her leotarded sleeves. After having caught Ms. Merrill Nisker twice earlier this summer, it was both a shock and a pleasure [...]

Here's what my encyclopedia says:- Formed in Glasgow in 1991 as Dove by Applied Biochemisttry student/graduate Dorothy 'Dot' Allison, along with Ian Carmichael and former Altered Images man Jim McKinven. Initailly released on the local Soma imprint, the dreamy ambience of 'Fallen' was subsequently remixed and re-issued by the 'Boys Own' label, an operation partly run by DJ extraordinaire, Andrew Weatherall. The band's association with Weatherall helped create a buzz that peaked with the release of 'White Love' (recorded with the help of Jah Wobble and Primal Scream's Andrew Innes amongst others), [...]

Our next find in the Treasure Trove comes to us from Divisible . Los Angeles-based band Divisible , consisting of singer Shola and drummer Albert Sadia, released it's debut album Less Than Lion , earlier in the summer. It's a collection of songs (including a reinterpretation of Radiohead's "Exit Music [For A Film])," that explores Shola's journey from the halls of Harvard to a West African reconciliation with her father, who lives in Ghana via a propulsive mixture of rock, electronica, and world music sounds. Thankfully, it [...]

The latest in our Treasure Trove comes to us from One In a Googolplex . One In A Googolplex is a German singer/songwriter taking his name from a line in the movie "Back To The Future III". His music is genre-breaking and goes from acoustic to electro-pop. After a short intermezzo as a singer in a teenage band and after extrapolating the properties of good audio from old Beach Boys cassettes, Coldplay records and Nick Drake's singing, OIAG began to write his own songs with a [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , UK The Sunday night headlining gig at this summer's Glastonbury Festival by reformed Britpop godheads Blur has been declared the Best Headline Performance of 2009 at this year's UK Festival Awards. And, adding a cherry to the band's year, singer Damon Albarn (pictured) also bagged the Festival Fitty gong at the awards ceremony which was held at the O2 in London yesterday (Nov. 19). Blur's headline slot topped what many festival-goers considered to [...]
