Sometimes just blurting out what you think is more fun than actually thinking things through and formulating an opinion. I was down in the basement tonight listening to records and what follows are my stream of conscious reviews of what I listened to. (Slumberland/Dulc-i-Tone) Mantles - Bad Design - Cave-like rock, reverb vocals (looking forward to this trend winding down). Nice guitar solo. This as poppy as Don't Lie, the best song on their album that came out on Siltbreeze. Mantles [...]

We've dished out quite a bit of content this week, so I suppose I'll get to the music list early. If you're just tuning in, I've switched up the way these Radio Dick posts go, attempting to offer a little more commentary on the tracks I'm posting. This week, I've got an interesting mix of material from around the globe. The scene's been a tad quiet with all of the madness going on at CMJ. Hopefully, our writer James, who just spent the week rambling around NYC, will hit you with any coverage he was able to either 1) document, [...]
A Wink from Dita Vox ::: photo by Abbey Simmons This photo of Dita Vox of Thee Emergency may be my favorite picture I took from all of Reverb Festival. For me, concert photography is as much showing a mood as it is capturing a split second moment. Since you get a lot more chances at taking shots that portray [...]

Reverb is a local music festival (in Seattle, WA for you global readers) that the Seattle Weekly has been putting on for a few years, each year seems decidedly better than the last. Critics might point out it doesn't have all the big names as The Stranger's Capitol Hill Block Party and they'd be right, but Reverb isn't trying to be like the CHBP, it is it's own beast. And the things it has going for it: Reverb takes place in Ballard, a great neighborhood with a bit of an older feel to it than Capitol [...]

So with 60+ bands playing 10 venues spread out through Ballard, seeing everyone worth seeing is going to be impossible-though I've made claims to the contrary. In looking at the schedule I found that with a little luck and a LOT of time management, I'm going to be able see almost every top priority band I wanted to. Hopfully there won't be any shortage of "Street Meat" vendors so I can get my grub on while running between venues. . I've also worked in some mandatory time to hang at Kings Hardware for Ballard's best [...]

Yes. This is a freaking Pitchfork re-post again. Don't hate the player hate the game. A list such as this is invaluable to avid music buyers, hence why we are imparting iy onto you, our loyal readers. Keeping it short, but some upcoming releases of highlight include: Alela Diane: Alela and Alina EP ; Blitzen Trapper: Black River Killer 12" EP ; Jemina Pearl : Break It Up ; Kurt Vile: Childish Prodigy; Music Go Music: Expressions and TONS more after jump. We conceited music bloggers sometimes [...]

The 2009 REVERBfest will take over Ballard on Sat Oct 3rd, filling 10 neighborhood venues (including 4 all-ages) many of which, like The Sunset and Hattie's Hat, are Ballard institutions while others, like the Salmon Bay Eagles Club and New York Fashion Academy are transforming themselves just for the event. The nice thing is that all of the venues are in the heart of old Ballard which makes it simple to hop from place to place and catch all your favorites. . Now, I know it's a pretty big claim, but I [...]
On October 3rd, Seattle Weekly's REVERBFest will make it's glorious return to shake the mortar from Ballard's historic buildings. All happening in one day and spread throughout all available venues, it is - without challenge - the greatest single gathering of the Seattle area's musical talent. . This year's bands enter from all realms of the spectrum, from the hot-shit hip hop of Fresh Espresso , to the deep raw grooves of The Redwood Plan , to the pizza party pop rock that is Coconut Coolouts , and the re-re-reborn punk-rock genius [...]
Before enjoying a plethora of musical choices tonight (No Depression Festival, Robin Pecknold/Drink for the Kids at Neumos, The Ironclads & The Hands at Mars Bar, Thee Emergency for Free at The Nectar, The Pharmacy at The Comet, Mad Rad at Chapel...) The Whore Moans ::: Photo by Josh We've spared no few words in praise of The Whore Moans , Thee Emergency , and the Hopscotch Boys on this blog, so it was a privilege to be sponsoring them all on one bill for the special occasion of the Blue Moon's 75th anniversary celebration. Suffice it to say that all three bands lived up to their billing, while a fourth band who was new to us, High Class Wreckage , ended up playing up to the strength of the rest, starting the night off [...]

If our absolutely kick-ass poster , the Seattlest endorsement , the Stranger Staff Pick , or the jaw-dropping line up of local rock hasn't convinced you to come to our Blue Moon Anniversary Celebration show tomorrow night already, well, you may be hopeless. (Or, alternatively, going to see The Thermals.) I am not exaggerating when I say tomorrow night's line up is my dream local line-up. This is the line-up I've been trying to put together for almost three years, and it's finally happening tomorrow: the Hopscotch Boys, Thee Emergency, and the Whore Moans all on my favorite stage. [...]

White Denim ::: Photo by Josh Austin's White Denim brought the pedals to Seattle last Sunday, and I'm at a loss for how to describe the adventurous blend of rock that this trio of highly proficient musicians seems to really enjoy playing. A little bit old southern and little bit modern, but also really not any of that. It seemed also that the catchiness of their song "sitting" doesn't really extend to the rest of the band's catalog. Most of the material veered toward the likes of the good times freak-out song "Shake Shake Shake." The [...]

White Denim delivered yet another solid performance I imagine that the Tractor Tavern is going to require a new paint job after Sunday night's ass-kicking show by Austin's buzz-worthy favorite sons, White Denim . Literally rocking the very foundations of the establishment on seismic proportions, the band delivered a non-stop thrill ride of rock & roll that ceased to lose steam throughout the course of the night. I'm surprised the walls didn't just come tumbling down under all the stress. From the moment the [...]

Birthday Suits ::: Photos by Josh Last night the Whore Moans returned from tour with a set at the Sunset Tavern, backed by What What Now and Minnesota two-piece Birthday Suits . Holy S they were loud. Who knew two dudes could make that much noise? After resting up, the Whore Moans will next be playing a Blue Moon Tavern 75th Anniversary Show on Saturday April 11 a show Sound on the Sound is sponsoring. Also on that bill will be one-off appearance by the recently dormant Hopscotch Boys . [...]
