Coming April 6th on Ghostly Intl. comes It All Falls Apart from The Sight Below , an unexpected new album from one of my favorite ambient-dreambeat artists. After sampling the tracks for the past hour the music feels perfect set against the dark cloudy skies here in Los Angeles. You can stream portions of the album's track listing via the link below, which includes stunning pieces like "Burn Me Out From The Inside", "Stagger" and a cover of Joy Divsion's "New Dawn [...]
There's not a whole lot I can tell you about Basia Bulat, but honestly I almost like it that way. I first heard of her in 2006 when she independently released a self-titled EP that caught my attention as well as the attention of many other music lovers around the world. That secured her a deal with Rough Trade, where she then released her first full length album, "Oh, My Darling" in 2008. That record was strong enough to place her on the short list for the 2008 Polaris Music Prize, which is a big deal in that it recognizes [...]
Tiny Vipers From: Seattle, Washington, United States The year may still be in it's infancy but it's already shaping up to be another year of the electro-pop female. The global success of Lady Gaga , Ladyhawke , Lily Allen , La Roux , Pixie Lott is influencing a generation of female singer songwriters to leap onto the bandwagon like an olympic long jumper on steroids (yes Ellie Goulding I do mean you!). Thankfully there [...]
2009 — what a crapsuck of a year. Without overstating or getting into it, it was easily the worst since, well, high school at least and I am not sorry that it is over. If I ever needed an object lesson in saving power of music, this was it. Music was one of the few things that keep the year from being a complete personal disaster. I've read others claim that 2009 wasn't a great year for music. In one sense I agree: there were few great albums — albums good enough to be considered for regular rotation [...]

Well, this is a little late in coming, but it's certainly worth a look. We've just posted our collective "best songs of the year" post over at In Review Online, and there's a little of everything on there. I contributed to the list, but it's very different than my "songs" list would have been (had I submitted one), which is a good thing. Read the full thing HERE. Here are the songs I included: Dirty Projectors - "Stillness is the Move" Animal Collective - "Brother Sport" [...]

Numbers 30-31 of my favorite/the best albums of the year - enjoy! ( Previous ) (Next) 30: Deastro - Moondagger Randolph Chabot, the man behind Deastro, is a sci-fi nerd with a love of synthetic-meets-organic electropop music. His debut, Moondagger , is such an excellent album because he takes all his quirks and uses them to create tunes that are unique, heartfelt, and very, very cool. ( More from me ) [...]

Here's another list for list lovers. It's never really too late, and, besides, 2010's all about savoring that which nourishes, so.....without further ado, here's Dave Shulman's list of faves from Luxury Wafers sessions in 2009. Dave's an up-east musician who helped around the studio when he visited and even filmed a bunch of Luxury Wafers sessions. PS- I have no idea what's up with these pesky italics. Sorry, folks. Enjoy the tunes. 1) Brendan Benson – Don't Want To Talk 2) [...]

Well it's over, and because it's over I can't let go. 2009, I am reflecting on a year that has yet to end, my first complete year in the Bay Area. In truth, 2009 probably won't start to be cataloged by me until about 2017, which is such a futuristic thought I can hardly stand it. We're here to talk music however, so let's start and end with a standard top ten rundown: 1. Fever Ray – Fever Ray ( Rabid ) 2. Dolphins into the Future - …On Seafaring Island [...]

TINY VIPERS LIFE ON EARTH (Sub Pop Records) by Michael Muller and Rob Lowe of Balmorhea For us, Life on Earth was hands down the most affecting album we heard this year. There is a fragile yet visceral quality throughout her haunting songs. They somehow find their way inside of you even without an invitation. The songs' simplicity and emotional depth are their strongest qualities. This is a highly recommended record, but for the full scope of Tiny Vipers [...]

Yes, its true!) and we span two continents and 4 countries and thousands of miles between us 5 lovers of music. The title of the blog is taken from a Ray LaMontagne song, so if that is any idea, then you know the style of music we like to feature! There is a lot of albums (and bonus items thank to Trini) below! [...]

Real Estate - Real Estate (Download: Beach Comber ) The housing market may have been down in 2009, but Real Estate has certainly been up, releasing [...]

The atmosphere of a Wanda Jackson concert is absolutely electric. Wanda Jackson, the Queen of Rockabilly, is a tiny woman with a commanding and gracious presence, and a voice that sounds as robust and rockin' as it did when she debuted in 1954. The Tractor Tavern was packed with adoring fans spanning all generations and genres, and those fans were ready to show their appreciation to Wanda. The opening acts were also excellent. Petunia & the Vipers , the first band to open, had a fantastic old school honky tonk sound. At first it sounded [...]
