Pixie Carnation

Pixie Carnation Taken from Pixie Carnation's Myspace: The product of two years of musical experimentation has culminated in what is now Pixie Carnation , a Swedish based, and yet very American sounding band. From the time that childhood friends Ola Pålsson and Tobias Hellkvist reconnected a few years ago there was an instant artistic connection, and it was only a matter of time before their sound and the band's lineup became what it is today. Despite it taking about a year and a [...]

MP3: Tobias Hellkvist - Arms

When pondering Tobias Hellkvist 's new record "Evolutions" , keep the title in mind and remember that evolution takes place over huge periods of time. It is not revolution and though this new album does show progression, it does not reflect monumental change. The readily identifiable guitars are gone, replaced by tones and drone, all drifting towards monolithic ambience. "Arms" is a track built on echoing chimes and overtones, sounding something like an underwater clockshop. Or maybe it's your head that's underwater, as the cacophony eventually reveals a deep the groan of a sinking ship that [...]

New Tobias Hellkvist album done, preview available

The new album from IAT.MP3 artist Tobias Hellkvist is done and since he is a gentleman, he is offering three tracks for download/preview: http://www.tobiashellkvist.com / I've only had a chance to listen to the album once myself, but I definitely dug what I heard. Fans of his earlier work will not be disappointed.

Beehive Recommends - Pixie Carnation

Beehive Recommends - Pixie Carnation I have a lot of respect for Seattle's excellent radio station KEXP and so any artist who achieves 'song of the day' recognition is for me, worthy of a listen at the very least. The fact that the promotion that dropped in my inbox a couple of days a go also mentioned the band are from Sweden was an added bonus ! Pixie Carnation are the band and I think they are pretty special. To quote KEXP a little further ...you don't get any indication that the band is from anywhere but [...]

Tobias Hellkvist to make live solo debut

IAT favorite Tobias Hellkvist will be making his live solo debut on November 17 at the church Trinitakis Kirke in Copenhagen, together with P Jørgensen and others. Def sounds like something worth checking out.

FREE SHIT GALORE!

FREE SHIT GALORE! For some reason, I've been bombarded with a ton of free downloadable releases that are awesome lately. I don't know if there's some sort of surge ( bring it back!! ) in artists being kinder or what, but this shit is up for grabs and you need get on it asap. Keep in mind just because these releases can be free, doesn't necessarily mean they should be free. Some of these even have physical copies available. Donate whenever possible. Show your appreciation and bands are more likely to keep it up. Look forward to [...]

These Long Roads (Or Tracks)

These Long Roads (Or Tracks) Roma Termini (Train Station) - Lacio, Italy As some of you may know, I spent the last month with my girl friend traveling to every Piazza of Italy. And as some of you might know, that kind of traveling involves bus/train rides that map-out hours-long. And as some of you might know-OK, I'll stop with the tomfoolery and get to the point. I decided to break away from the original format and bridge the gaps between those brighter moments of my iPod's shuffle-mode, particularly during these lengthy commutes. This is a mix of songs [...]

MP3: Pixie Carnation - When did the lights go out

If I didn't tell you that Tobias Hellkvist was involved with Pixie Carnation , you'd never know from listening. This band sounds nothing at all like his solo material, though you may start to find parallel threads if you look hard enough. For instance, that soaring e-bow/delay guitar in the background? I'd bet money it's all Tobias. Anyhow, I'm not posting this song because Tobias is involved, I'm posting it because it's a damn good song, one of my current favorites. Our personal connection is merely the method of informational transference, I wouldn't bother talking it up [...]

Presenting: Pixie Carnation

Check out Pixie Carnation , a new band featuring IAT.MP3 artist Tobias Hellkvist together with childhood friend Ola Pålsson : http://www.myspace.com/pixieca rnation It's not like Tobias' other work, but that shouldn't stop you from listening because it's really, really good, solid indierock, emphasis on the rock. Expect a 5-song EP to surface very soon, otherwise enjoy the three tracks up for preview right now.

New project from Tobias Hellkvist + new album in spring

IAT.MP3 artist Tobias Hellkvist reports that he is working on recording five new songs with his friend Ola as a demo for a new as-yet-unnamed project. He says that the music "is something completely different" from his regular output, but since I haven't heard it yet, I can't comment. As for Tobias' solo work, he says that his next album is just about finished and should be ready for release this spring. No exact date yet, but Anna Johansson , the same artist who did the cover for "Sides" is working on the [...]

Top 10s for 2008: Tobias Hellkvist

The following list represents some of the best parts of my audio moments in 2008. In no particular order: Sonic Youth - Live @ Way Out West Easily the best live experience for me this year. When they opened up with "Burning spear" , and followed up with a bunch of other older songs, I went totally nuts. They are the coolest band on this earth. Sawako - Bitter Sweet This was [...]

S.U.S MIA/BLAQSTARR
I started a new job last week, and I'm way behind on my blog reading, so here's me trying to catch up like usual. Mr. Chop - "Zoid" "Zoid" is about as dark and sinister a mood piece as you can get, with droning synths sorta like Thomas Bangalter's "Paris by Night" , but with the beat moving double-time. ( via ) Speaking of things dark and sinister, Blaqstarr and M.I.A 's cover of "Way Down in the Hole" is an exciting bit of bleak and [...]
