Here's my late-arriving weekend rundown:] Tonight: Alan Palomo's Neon Indian [pictured; download below] brings its multimedia synthscapes to the Echoplex for a night of cool electro that includes Keenhouse , Tigercity and Little Red Radio . ... Julian Casablancas hits downtown's Palace Theatre for Week 3 of his residency. ... Party guys Iglu & Hartly try to build on their U.K. buzz with a show in their home city at [...]

By Viktor Phoenix Comparisons to Nine Inch Nails are probably going to plague I Will Never Be the Same for a while, but let's get real here: It's not such an odd proposition that in 2009, 20 years after the release of "Pretty Hate Machine," a talented and passionate songwriter such as Josh Atchley can turn out an album's worth of dark pop songs infused with guitars and synths alone in his West Hollywood studio. In 2008, Atchley, a producer of electronic music for the past 10 years, decided to take "time [...]
Another solid week of shows coming up in Chicago this week. Sadly, though, most of the best shows are bunched up at the start of the week, meaning there aren't too many interesting shows I can take my younger brother to when he's in town this weekend. I'm sure we'll find something to do, though - this ain't DC. (Snap!) As always, my picks in bold . Sunday, 10/25 Beat Kitchen (early - 12pm): Shana Sings (special Halloween show) Beat Kitchen (7pm): [...]

If you're still up, check 'em out. Otherwise, fear not. These songs are gentle enough for morning after Saturday night and probably go along just fine with your cuppa joe, greasy fare and twin advils. Beach [mp3] - West Indian Girl Super groovy churning vibe. Great late night. From their We Believe (7/09, Origami). kt [mp3] - Bexar Bexar Picturesque, soothing instrumental, from Haralambos [...]
No, Trent Reznor won't be fucking you like an animal anytime soon: he has apparently tied the knot with some chick named Mariqueen Maandig, formerly of a band I've never heard of called West Indian Girl. A half-dozen reader e-mails pointed me to Pink is the New Blog, where photos from the wedding have been [...]

Thus were the words of Reznor's bandmate and close friend Daniel Lohner. Reznor married girlfriend and former West Indian Girl singer Mariqueen Maandig on Saturday in Los Angeles. In what seems like a sort of adorable early retirement, both have recently quit or retired from their bands and should have plenty of time for the honeymoon victory lap. NIN fans don't fret all day though, while your man may be off the market, he has discussed more music in the future. (Via: SPIN )
Trent Reznor married fiance Mariqueen Maandig (former lead singer of West Indian Girl) this weekend, says Nine Inch Nails band member Danny Lohner, who broke the news over his Twitter. Reznor recently "retired" Nine Inch Nails, and Maandig quit West Indian Girl, so presumably the couple will have plenty of time to just chill. [ Spinner ]

Shakira told the UK's Sky News that she thinks illegal downloading has "brought me closer to my fans." Norah Jones and Nelly Furtado joined Shakira in this sentiment. "I like what's going on because I feel closer to the fans and the people who appreciate the music," Shakira said. "It's the democratisation of music in a way, and music is a gift. That's what it should be, a gift." † Trent Reznor quietly married former West Indian Girls singer Mariqueen Maandig over the weekend, according to tweets from bandmate Danny Lohner. [...]

The Antiheroines series features author Jami Attenberg interviewing up-and-coming female comics artists. Jami Attenberg: The first time I met Ellen Forney was on a slightly sweaty summer's night at a bar in New York City in Hell's Kitchen, out back, on a patio crowded with a mix of lit kids and post-corporate-jobbers. She was visiting town from Seattle to do a reading, and knew one of the writers there. I thought she was young, just a [...]

And so we've reached the last three months of the calendar year, known in the world of music as the Fourth Quarter. It's the last chance for bands and labels to make an impression, pocket a bit of cash, and maybe, just maybe, earn a sport on those illustrious year-end lists. As usually the case with these types of things, we got a lot of music to look forward to... with a heavy emphasis on "a lot." Fortunately, as it's usually the case with these types of things, we got you covered. Below, you'll find an extensive and [...]
You might have heard of the recent genrefication of the 'chillwave movement ', which was basically a non-collective effort by producers around the world who created mp3s that were lofi, chill, electro jams. Because all of this music was released within a 2 month period, the music media was fortunate enough to be able to 'group it together' in order to 'make it seem more meaningful/coverable.' I was kinda sad when I found out that some of my fave chillwave hits were actually 'sample-based songs.' Apparently this is a 'problem' that has caused many [...]

A wee departure from pasting up film posters on the blog. What seems like a lifetime ago, I posted the late Ian Walker's 1979 New Society article, 'Anarchy in the UK' , on the blog, and it was always my intention to post other pieces by Ian Walker that had originally appeared within the pages of the now defunct British magazine, The New Society . What happened then? Well, I moved to the States and my copy of Paul Barker's 'The Other Britain' - a collection of New [...]

Boomshots.com has done it again this with getting an exclusive interview with Vivian Blake the Jamaica Gangster that became America's Most Wanted. The former Shower Posse Boss spent his time behind bars developing his skills as a writer, and plans to tell his stories on the big screen. In his first interview since coming home, he tells Boomshots.com about his plans for the future. [...]
