A couple of weeks ago, we went to New Orleans for a friend's wedding. We had a chance to see the World War II museum and the fancy new wing that Tom Hanks helped contribute with and the new theater much cooler than an Imax (it's in 4D!). The picture from above is taken from the museum, and before the trip, I had no idea there was a WWII museum. I guess Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg are teaming up again to retell the story of the US invading the Pacific during [...]
As I mentioned earlier this year, it seems that as a result of the recent times, Brooklyn, New York has become the center of the world for indie rock aficionados. Sure, maybe the Dodgers will never move back east, but Brooklyn has definitely developed into something much larger than their former baseball team could ever compare to. Singer/songwriter Tim Williams certainly feels right at home and well within the walls and camaraderie of Brooklyn. While literally clicking alive on the heels of his third full-length album , Careful Love , Williams channels his personal darkest hours of reconstructive [...]

Here is day three of my favorite albums of the aughts. There's a lot of good stuff here (in my opinion). I hope you are taking advantage of the full album streams via LaLa.com . I will continue with the posts next Monday. I hope you enjoy. View 50-41 After the Jump… 50: Kings of Convenience - Riot on an Empty Street (2004) [...]
Death Cab For Cutie forsangeren Ben Gibbards hyggeprojekt The Postal Service rendte med 2. pladsen, blandt andet foran to [...]

The new single from The Golden Filter is called "Thunderbird". Just released a few days ago, the 12" includes a b-side of The White Stripes' "The Hardest Button To Button" ( which we've loved for a while now ). Watch the video and purchase the single from Dummy . [ Via ]

MTV recently talked to Jack White about his upcoming projects. "I've got like five things on my plate right now, it's a big plate," says White. White has recently recorded sessions with '50s rockabilly pioneer Wanda Jackson, and evidently they're "wild." If you remember, White also collaborated with country legend Loretta Lynn for her album, Van Lear Rose , back in 2004. Talks are evidently also in the works for both a new Dead Weather album and a new White Stripes album. (AHHH!) "It's gonna take as long as it takes ... if [...]
The fine folks over at A.V. Club have posted their best-of-the-decade music list today, and at number one they've got the White Stripes' White Blood Cells. That pick is sure to start some rabble-rabble below, but it's a solid pick, backing away from the easy gimme of putting Kid A on top. Though I do take umbrage with calling White Blood Cells "true," since most of the songs are far from any "truth" as I know it. Still though, solid pick. The top ten is rounded out by [...]
The Cave Singers ' sound has certainly developed since their successful 2007 debut album, Invitation Songs . Recorded in Vancouver, Welcome Joy , exhibits more variety than their original signature blend of Americana meets English folk. The alt-county nasal vocal and laid-back slide guitar picking are still there from the outset. The opening track, 'Summer Light', is comforting and familiar, but 'At The Cut' sees the Seattle trio unleash their inner rock child, and they certainly have fun in the process. However, they have not strayed too far from their roots – 'Leap' is [...]
NME "Top 100 Albums Of The Decade" list In an exhilarating episode of listmaking as the year wraps up, hyperbole experts NME have compiled a "final, definitive list" of the top 100 Albums Of The Decade, naming The Strokes' 2001 debut album " Is This It ", The Libertines ' " Up The Bracket " and Primal Scream 's " XTRMNTR " in the first, second and third place respectively. Others who made the list include (expectedly) Arctic Monkeys, Radiohead, Arcade Fire, The White [...]
While the drum programming far surpasses Meg White's less than mind blowing drumming ability, the LehtMoJoe remix of The White Stripe's Blue Orchid lacks the raw, stripped down character of the original. That being said LMJ puts an original spin on a track that, in the right hands, would be a perfect head turner on the dancefloor and the beat is fire enough to stand alone. see more video on From the Basement The White Stripes - Blue [...]

BEST ALBUMS OF THE NOUGHTIES The daunting task of putting together something that you know lots of readers won't agree with is never easy, but then we thought you could always go make your own lists. At least we had the balls... So the 50s had rock n roll, the 60s had it's pop and folk, the 70s it's punk, disco and glam, the 80s it's pop, hip hop and hair rock, the 90s it's grunge, brit pop and dance music. It begs the question - what standout genre defines the [...]

The end of the decade is nearly upon us which inevitably means everyone is about to start rolling out their "best of" lists. This proved to be a rather arduous task, but at the same time I had a lot of fun during the process as it forced me to go back and listen to a lot of albums that I hadn't heard in quite some time. It seems like we tend to get so caught up on trying to hear as much new music as possible that we forget to go back and appreciate many of the [...]

Qualche sorpresa.

The problem with a list like this is the "shoulds". You know, the albums you feel like everyone else will pick, so you "should," too? Well, this time I decided not to deal with those. My list is based on the number of times I listened to these albums since they came out, whether I love them so much I already know every word to every song, how much it moved me, etc. This is a personal list. It isn't intended to be complete or controversial. That said, I know I'll get crap for [...]

For ramblings on how I came to compile this list go here . And for commentary on previous selections: [ #50-46 ] [ #45-41 ] 40. Goodbye Doris - Fox Jaws (2007) Barrie's Fox Jaws are easily one of my favorite live bands, and I make a point of trying [...]
