Back in November I was ask to take part in Peenko 's annual Scottish Bloggers and Music Sites (Scottish BAMS.....and if you're Scottish you'll get the double entendre there) rundown. Because I'm Scottish I qualified for such an honour and it's my pleasure to announce that after much tallying and I'm sure many a drink, Lloyd (Peenko) has compiled this year's top albums as voted on by other Scottish blog and site owners. The winner is none other than my own Chillwave/Hardcore (Chillcore) band Horse Moustache. I did not see that one coming, at all, especially since [...]
Today sees the release of the debut album, 'Heart of the Land, Soul of the Sea', by Edinburgh folk pop sextet, The Last Battle through 17 Seconds Records. I have already confessed that this is one of my favourite albums of 2010, that is why I asked in lead singer Scott to do a wee track by track of the songs on the album. He'll take you through all the various steps of their cracking debut came together, what he the songs mean to him, the overly loud special guests that he roped in, plus confessions on his love [...]
Good evening boys n girls, this is just a quick reminder to tune into Fresh Air tonight at 7pm for my first ever radio show. It could be a complete disaster or a lot fun, or possibly even both, either way I'm cacking myself about it. Joining me tonight I have my own very 'special guest' David from Kid Canaveral, so at least there will be one sensible person in the room. I might ask him some music related questions, I might not. I will be winging it all the way! What I can promise is that there [...]
I am at an industry-fest and there is a lot to be gained from these things, but sometimes the avalanche of new people to interact with kinda gets me down. When I started writing this blog absolutely not one single fucker ever read the thing. In fact, I wrote about music for about two and a half years on my own website which had precisely no readers at all, because I can lay a website out adequately, but search engine optimisation eludes me completely. I started writing on the pretense that my little brother, who lives [...]
I've been following these guys for a while now but haven't made a post about them. Hmm.....apologies. The Last Battle are a sextet from my hometown of Edinburgh, Scotland who've been working furiously in the last few months to get their debut album finished as well as gigging as much as possible. Their debut album has an awesome name ("Heart Of The Land, Soul Of The Sea") and an equally as awesome sound, set for release in September in Edinburgh indie label 17 Seconds Records (which is also the home of the frenetic and buzz-worthy The Dirty [...]
For those of you interested at all in even more of my inane prattling, I have recently done an interview with a certain Mr. Timothy London for his blog, which can be read here . The interview itself was about a less cynical music industry, and I am not entirely sure I really made a great case in its favour, with some really very cynical remarks indeed. Still, I tried to answer the questions themselves as honestly and intelligently as I could, so hopefully that counts for something! This weekend I was down in Macclesfield for [...]
It's Tigerfest and The Kays Lavelle album launch this week, as well as being May, which says to me that our first barbecue of the season can't be much further away, surely. Ach, who knows though, this Spring's been all over the bloody shop so Christ knows. Still, we're firmly into the first stirrings of Festival Season now which is... erm, well certainly not a bad thing I guess. There are some fucking shitty festivals (blogs, bands, etc...) out there, and I am becoming distinctly picky in my taste for festivals, and really quite [...]
The Morgue Party Candidate I'm still in two mind as to whether this is one of the best or worst names for a band that I have heard in ages, but the one thing is for sure their EP 'Good Morning, Good Night' is pretty damn good, and it's available for free here . If you like what you hear and you are going to the Define Pop [...]
There seem to be a lot of things happening on the internet in and around the Scottish music scene at the moment. This is nice, because for a while it seemed like the only real participants in McMusic 2.0 were the old stagers like myself, 17 Seconds , The Vinyl Villain , The Pop Cop , And Before the First Kiss (RIP for now) and Manic Pop Thrills . We can welcome a couple of new sites to the fold as well, in the form of The Steinberg Principle , Across the [...]
Good grief, it's a busy week in Edinburgh this week. I am going to have to drive everywhere just to stop myself drinking my liver into oblivion. Personally, of course, I am advocating the Song, by Toad Spring piss up at the Bowery on Thursday. Those of you yet to acquire a copy of Meursault's blinding new EP , I'd very much recommend you take this chance to do so. We've only made 300 copies - all hand-painted - so I don't think they'll last all that long. Tigerfest and the [...]
Fortunately the results weren't quite as Special Branch-alerting as they might well have been. I heard about this band both from Ed over at 17 Seconds , and from Colin who writes And Before the First Kiss , and put them on his 2008 Mixtape which he gave me at Christmas. Oddly, this is a band which has been blogged to death by everyone from here to fucking Timbuktu, but all they really seem to have is a couple of tracks, a seven inch single and a clearly pretty fearsome black belt online marketing strategy. This [...]
After spending a major part of today being completely pissed that I missed The Music Slut 's CMJ party yesterday (and RSVP'd thinking that it was today), the kind, loving bloggers that I know hit me up to remind me of all the other great free shows that I can check this week. CMJ is fun times. Evidently there is a festival in England called the "Underage Festival" and it has nothing to do with pedobears [ Idolator ] Cool little video for The Avett Brothers ' "Bella Donna" [...]

[Discover/Listen] – The Dirty Cuts – [Grime/New-Wave/Pop- Punk]
Wow. All it took was 30 seconds of "Lips" by The Dirty Cuts for me to do a double take and wonder if it was a mistake that I had this, if someone was taking the piss and had sent me a song by an established act that's been around for years. Not the case. The Dirty Cuts are a four-piece from Glasgow, Scotland who "formed to make music for boys and girls to dance and make out to". And dance and make out to it you will, just like you do to The Virgins, The [...]
