Chicago-based mashup wizards The Hood Internet have knack for bringing together seemingly distant artists to create anthem-sized bangers. This blended up smoothie of R. Kelly and Phoenix is no exception. It's short, so get ready to hit replay. Follow @dcbui
As the year closes out, each day we're revisiting one of our favorite songs of 2012: Much has been said about "Skinny Love", the stripped, piano ballad cover of Bon Iver that made Jasmine Van Den Bogaerde -- aka Birdy -- a youtube sensation in the U.K. and led to a major label signing for the 15-year-old British singer/songwriter. But we think the version of Phoenix's massive hit "1901" is the real gem on her self-titled debut full length, a song that she subtly turns [...]
It's been a long time coming, especially since Phoenix revealed back in May 2011 that they were in NYC working on Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix 's followup, but at a press even yesterday for Spotify, the band's label boss Daniel Glass of Glassnote confirmed that their new, as-yet-untitled album will be out in April. As of yet there's no word on a title, artwork, a tracklist, or a release date, but we've only got four months to wait until we [...]

But we think the version of Phoenix's massive hit "1901" is the real gem on her forthcoming self-titled debut (March 20), a song that she subtly turns inside out, bringing the melody and addictive "hey hey hey hey" chorus hook into the sweet, velvety plush confines of chamber pop. [...]
Birdy - We first tipped you to Birdy -- aka Jasmine Van Den Bogaerde -- last April when the fifteen-year-old singer/songwriter from Lymington, England self-released via youtube a sullen, piano/voice version of Bon Iver's "Skinny Love" (video below)...flash forward to the present where Birdy's self-titled major label debut album, filled with more weary, angst-laden takes on mostly contemporary alt-pop hits (Phoenix, Fleet Foxes, Postal Service), gets a Stateside issue after scoring well in the U.K. last November// Release : Birdy (March 20, Warner Brothers) // Sounds like : Tori Amos' [...]
Birdy doesn't need much of an introduction. The incredibly quick, if not metoeric escalation of this 15 year old starlet happened almost overnight, and is sheer testament to the depth of talent that she has. Uncovered at an Open Mic UK competition, she has recieved mass amounts of critical acclaim due to her incredible covers of renowned artists Bon Iver and Ed Sheeran . She's now released her take on French band Pheonix' s 1901 . Check out her version here, and the original below. [...]

So Untitled! has launched a brand new record label called Level.01 Recordings (referring to the smaller room at the famous Untitled!-parties). The label is said to be focusing on 'all good things bass'. Well that can't be too bad, no? The first release is one of up-and-comer Daily , whose productions I've been following for a while now. I could really hear him grow with every new track he delivered, now finally resulting in his debut EP. A great remix by Voltron is included as well. The artwork was done by Beatcave [...]

Enough beats to last the weekend. Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Birdy - “1901” (Phoenix Cover) Odjbox - “The Only One” Nurses - “Fever Dreams” My Brightest Diamond - “We Added it Up” Crystal Stilts - “Dark Eyes” — Basil

Catch a little 2009. Phoenix - 1901 (KillaGraham Remix) KillaGraham ( Soundcloud ) ( Facebook ) Rating 8.3

This mix is getting a whole heap of attention across the online music 'scene' and it's not hard to here why. The original is a wickedly upbeat piece of electro-pop (all clinky keyboards and upfront guitars) - check it out below. The remix by DLID (Dick Laurent Is Dead) slows things down and injects some thoroughly dirty basslines into the track to churn '19012 into a club worthy piece of prime beef. The original - Phoenix '19012 [...]

Words by Jacob Barron The general consensus on Valentine's Day is that it's an exploitative holiday invented by heartless greeting card companies and “the man” to try and wring a few heterosexist consumer dollars out of the wasteland that is the six months between Christmas and summer. However, it also happens to be a holiday designed by vindictive couples in an attempt to rub their happiness in single people's faces. Or it's a day to take some time and think about how to best let your sweetheart know just how much he or [...]

Emanating from the suburbs of Versailles, France are four men known has Thomas Mars (on vocals), Deck D’Arcy (on bass), Christian Mazzalai (on guitar) and Laurent Brancowitz (on guitar). Their name “Phoenix” was coined in 1996 after Laurent Brancowitz’s former band - Darlin’ - disbanded in 1995. The other two members of Darlin’ were Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo who went on to form the group we now know as Daft Punk. Even though they don’t have any long standing drummers or keyboardists within Phoenix, that hasn’t prevented them from creating some of most enduring [...]

This post is a "QuickPick". QuickPicks are my attempt at getting all of the music that's sent to me that I like (or just music I like but have no words for because it's so awesome), out into the dubya dots. Any time I get sent music that I like I "star" it in Gmail and then go back and listen to it a day later. If it's still as good as it was a day before then it goes up on the site, but sometimes I get backlogged and can't get through writing [...]

Earth Moon Earth released this Pheonix remix earlier last week. If it wasn't for the ridiculously obnoxious garageband style snare & sweet piano lick happening around the three minute mark - I most likely wouldn't have posted this. However, this is a pretty cool remix of what I have found to be a very tough genre to remix successfully. I say that because I seem to see tons of remixes of Pheonix tunes out almost weekly, and very few seem to have the necessary pop I'm waiting to here out of any of them. Regardless, a very good job [...]
So the travel gods were not kind over the weekend. Otherwise Pittsburgh was a blast! More on that soon. In the meantime lets get moving with the 7th of the 17 Days of Dosvecmas. This time DJ Whatt brings us some Birdman and Lil Weezy over Phoenix, for Stuntin like 1901. Enjoy. Birdman ft Lil [...]

Tweet A few weeks back we introduced you to Camp America and we're pleased to announce their back with a new remix of 1901 by Phoenix. It only came out this week and it's free to download (see below). If you're familiar with Camp America's work you'll instantly recognise their unique twiddly knobs, bubble gum electro pop sounds and you'll love the 802s messing around with the vocal, which oddly reminds me of Ferris Buellers Day Off (Classic Movie). And if you [...]
