Vivian Maier (February 1, 1926 – April 21, 2009) was an American amateur street photographer who was born in New York but grew up in France, and after returning to the U.S., worked for about forty years as a nanny in Chicago. During those years she took about 100,000 photographs, primarily of people and cityscapes most often in Chicago, although she traveled and photographed worldwide. Her photographs remained unknown and mostly undeveloped until they were discovered by a local historian, John Maloof, in 2007. Following Maier's death her work began to receive critical acclaim. Her photographs [...]

Fredrik Daniel Bruno (1882–1971) was a town engineer in Hudiksvall in the province of Hälsingland in the northern part of central Sweden. He was also a dedicated amateur photographer, and some of the colour slides he took during travels in the 1940s and early 1950s are from Norway, Sweden's neighbouring country in the west. The Norwegian photos show towns and landscapes from different parts of the country. They are all taken in July 1948, probably during a holiday trip, with his travel companions appearing in several photos. Fredrik Bruno's professional field of interest as a town [...]
Elvis Presley's rise to stardom came at the precipice of radio's demise. In 1954, Presley walked into Sun Records in Memphis, Tennessee to record a series of demos with Sam Phillips, a man in search of a very specific sound. It was there that the modern style of rock and roll was born. In a [...]

He was also a dedicated amateur photographer, and took colour slides during travels around Sweden in the 1940s and early 1950s. Most of the photos show Swedish towns - with buildings, harbours, squares, monuments and public parks. Göteborg (Gothenburg) on the west coast and Stockholm, the capital, are well represented. Other photos show the countryside. A lot of the photos seem to be from official travels Fredrik Bruno made as a town engineer, and [...]

HepCat Matt is an old friend of mine, from back when we were both at school playing our respective instruments together (his is guitar). Since the good old days we've both been at uni discovering all sorts of music and he's become quite the connoisseur of Rock & Roll. So much so that he runs two nights down in Brighton playing said style of music. By all accounts there's hair gel, tweed and crazy dance crazes wherever you look. Anyway, he's been kind enough to tell us about a few of the songs he most enjoys playing and listening to, [...]

I have been embarrassingly and obsessively listening to The Teen Velvettes a.k.a. Michael Cotter from Sealings so much that everyone in my house whistles and hums his songs subconsciously when they get ready for work. Every song sounds so damn perfect like it's come straight out of the 50/602s, that it's hard to decide which ones to share (if you dig these, really do listen to the rest here ). STREAM : The Teen Velvettes - "Everybody's Got Someone But Me" + "When I Was Looking At You" + "I Like You Too Much" [...]

Кстати, Matt Duncan живёт в том же городе, что и Idiot Glee, поэтому ни для кого не станет сюрпризом отличный кавер на « I Want the Night to Stay » с дебютного альбома «Paddywack». Нравится?
