You know its a big album when they run a TV commercial for it. Here's a great TV commericial made for Steely Dan's Aja with a voiceover by Eartha Kitt, circa 1978. Hat tip to Vintage Ads .

San Francisco's Reynolds Records was only around for a few years spanning the 1970s, releasing a catalog of strong Bay Area funk and soul material. Producer, Songwriter and horn player Steve Marshall's first appearance on the label is on this masterpiece of haunting deep soul. His subsequent releases on the label head straight into disco territory. After cutting two versions of his hit "Maintain" he released an album length statement Do What You Will in 1978. The LP is a consistent listen start to finish and leaning toward extended instrumental jamming with clean [...]
Jesus christ, I wonder what these guys were into musically! It sure is punk, but it sounds like no other band who were around at the same time, or later. Wild and fuzzy guitar all over the place,... Punk | Powerpop | Mod | Hard Core

Source John Holmstrom says, "Not only was it Friday the Thirteenth, but we even had the premonition to bill it as "A Titanic Evening!" right on the ticket – complete with a sinking ship and lifeboats. Oh yeah. By then, we knew that PUNK magazine was going down for the third time, so we [...]

Witch Queen was a studio project from the legendary Gino Soccio. The A side of this 12" is a cover of T-Rex's panty dropper "Bang A Gong," and the B side, "Witch Queen," is also credited to Marc Bolan. I can't find a T-Rex version of "Witch Queen," so it looks like he wrote it for Soccio's project before his untimely passing. The end result was a truly unique fusion of Italo Disco & Glam Rock. I'm not sure, but I believe the full title for this great Dutch EP is New Disease Sells In Europe!, otherwise the text on the backside of the sleeve makes no sense to me. Anyone here who knows?... Punk | Powerpop | Mod | Hard Core

Michael Jackson, 1978 1978 was a year when it was hard to find anything that came close to R&B that wasn't wrapped in polyester and smothered in a strobe light. 1979 was a bit better, though, with the debut of Prince, a classic album by Michael Jackson and the last great single by Issac Hayes making up the Top 10 R&B hits of the year. 10. Prince - "I Wanna Be Your Lover" When he showed up on his first album wearing panties and stockings, it was safe [...]

For some reason, I'd been avoiding buying this album, despite finding it in my dollar bin dives nearly every week. See, when I was a neophyte dumpster diver, back in high school, this album was already a regular flip in the bins on Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley. Since Snail were a local band (sort of, they're from Santa Cruz which is loosely a part of the SF Bay Area) they've always been around the local record shops. And Cream Records was notoriously awful at promoting rock bands, like Legs Diamond, that really should've hit a bigger audience. [...]

The great picture sleeve from the "Father Christmas" single It was only a matter of time before the Kinks' classic "Father Christmas" showed up here on Reselect during the holiday season, as I'm sure you must have known. It's just too good a song, with wit too sly and a melody too rocking, to be kept unposted for too long. The recording of "Father Christmas" began during the recording of the Kinks' 1977 album Sleepwalker , but apparently didn't get completed until they were recording 19782s Misfits , most [...]

Not a huge Universal Robot Band fan, but I thought I'd rescue this from a dollar bin for the jammers. Universal Robot Band - Freak With Me Mediafire • YSI • 1978 --- Follow me on Twitter: twitter.com/shawnryan
