It's good to see bands one admired in college days sound even better with more mature ears. The idea of indie rockers doing chamber music may have seemed like a novelty back then, but the quality of the playing is not only more impressive now, but seems possessed of a dignity that allows an even better aging process. This track comes from an album that took its title from the geology of the moon. It does a nice job of evoking the slow, slightly melancholy walk over its cratered surface. Rachel's - [...]
Phish's first-ever shows in Japan took place during the Summer of 1999, when the band traveled across the Pacific to perform at the Fuji Rock Festival. A new Live Phish release titled Japan Relief looks at the July 31, 1999 show from Fuji Rock to benefit Peace Winds America with proceeds going to help the disaster relief efforts following the earthquake and subsequent tsunami that wreaked havoc on Japan. Not only is all of the July 31, 1999 show included in the release, [...]
the next compilation from jack of all trades brand kitsune revels, shouts and touts the next wave of french pop/indie/electro stars and starletts. compiled by gildas loaec who has worked with daft punk for over 15 years and andre saraiva a local parisian promoter and graf artist means the comp has all the elements for something successful. fittingly titled 'kitsune parisien' names such as Valley, Destin, Exotica, Yan Wagner and Jupiter all might slip past on first glance but will be stitched to the brain when the cognate kitsune sound jumps from [...]
Despite Songblague's occasional brushes with current events, I can assure you that today's song has nothing to do with Libya. It's more about a finger-walk through my CD collection, which I try to do regularly, as a break from my recent lazy habit of Itunes scrolling . I'm not sure whether that's what triggers the nostalgia or whether an unconscious itch to revisit old times comes first, but either way, landing on Pinback's debut record brought a wave of sensory remembrance into last weekend. It may be meat-and-potatoes indie rock, but the right notes in [...]
In May of 1999, Trey Anastasio hit the road for his first solo tour. For this 12-show tour, Trey kicked things off with an acoustic set before welcoming drummer Russ Lawton and bassist Tony Markellis for an electric second set. The debut TAB tour contained plenty of standout moments, but there are a few highlights that generally get forgotten about in Trio Tour discussions. This week's B List continues "Trey Week" by detailing 10 Things You Might Not Remember About Anastasio's First Solo Tour. As the Phish front man sets [...]

Globetrotters, DJs extraordinaire and two great fellas to boot, Stefan 'Bossi' Bossems and Nic Chagall release a king-size whopper of a Back 2 The Future album listing eight of their own tunes on showcase by updating them for today's audiences and by bringing in the help of some already long standing, future trance stars in the making. Making reference to Cosmic Gate's interview quotes taken from Black Hole Recordings official advert mail out, they talk about their reasons behind this concept. "Back 2 The Future is an album born largely out of a necessity for [...]

Show Review: Reazon, Weapons of Audio and Sims/Lazerbeak at Central SAPC
Last Saturday we attended and were a part of the excitement that occurred at The Central Social Aid & Pleasure Club in Santa Monica. The show featured hip-hop, electronic, rock and some synthesized soul for an exciting night that featured five different artists, including three members of Minneosta music collective, Doomtree. The opening act was [...]

Video: Phish – 1999 (Prince Cover)
It's not often that I get shocked by a Phish video surfacing on YouTube, but I experienced that emotion yesterday when I saw that Phish video guru tdunski had uploaded a clip of the Vermont quartet covering Prince's 1999 at Madison Square Garden on December 31, 1998. I've been lucky enough to see Phish bust out Terrapin and Sabotage as well as return to the stage after a hiatus and a breakup, but for my money there was no crowd reaction as joyous, loud and lengthy as when the group opened NYE '98 with 1999. Listen [...]
