(photo: myspace.com) Last week I had a nice long chat with Dev from Hype Machine Radio about 2009's hits and misses, highs and lows, and we spent a bit of time talking about New York's The Drums . I first wrote about the band back in May , before their infectious EP Summertime! was released but haven't mentioned them much since. The more I hear that EP, the more I think that The Drums are going to be 2010's Pains of Being Pure at Heart: musical revivalists who [...]
I know sometime back I wrote about Belgium's The Go Find , which originally started off as a solo project for Dieter Sermeus, but has now grown into a full band. Their third album, Everybody Knows It's Gonna Happen Only Not Tonight is coming out in February on the very hip Morr Music label. The band have released the title track as a teaser for their laid-back, dreamy electro-pop sounding disc: MP3: The Go Find "Everybody Knows It's Gonna Happen Only Not Tonight" [...]
Thanks to Dancing About Architecture for turning me onto this whip-smart remix of The Hidden Cameras ' "In The NA" by Scissor Sister Jake Shears and Stuart Price (a.k.a Thin White Duke). The "Crystal Pepsi" remix is part of the 'Cameras "In The NA" EP which came out earlier this summer. MP3: The Hidden Cameras "In The NA (Crystal Pepsi remix)" Myspace: The Hidden Cameras Thanks to Jaxsur for sending a remix of Dragonette's "Pick [...]
I'm still trying to get myself back into the swing of things after my whirlwind week back and forth to NYC, so forgive me if some of this is old news, but it's all good stuff nonetheless. Late Night Tales has been a great DJ compilation series from the folks at Uncut magazine, and the latest band to make an appearance in the booth is Snow Patrol . Along with tracks from A Tribe Called Quest, TV On the Radio and captain Beefheart, the band covers [...]
Happy Friday the 13th! This week's 4FTW post is coming a bit early, as I've got my hands full trying to take care of last minute details before taking off for NYC on Monday. Things will be a bit quiet around here for the weekend, but I'll be back blogging on Monday with the second installment of the newly launched QBiM Q&A feature. This week's interviewee: Kirk "Giant Hand" Ramsay. Moby has a new project/band called The Little Death that includes Laura Dawn on vocals, Daron Murphy [...]

(photo: mysapce.com/pixies) This week's 4-pick was going to be a no-brainer. 20 years ago, 1989: the finest year of the modern music era. Don't believe me? Check this out -one of the earliest QBiM posts that doesn't make me wince with embarrassment-and tell me if you think differently. The world was on the cusp of a new decade, rushing perilously close to a new millennium and a new world order. Music was in the throes of changes, too. We were caught somewhere between new wave and no wave, "Madchester" and grunge, and The [...]

The Rural Alberta Advantage: Hottest band in Canada (photo: Patrick Leduc) Like leaves falling from trees, and smashed Jack-o-Lanterns littering damp and windy streets, the arrival of November is a tell-tale sign that the year is quickly drawing to a close, and we're in the midst of a season change: year-end list season. Thing kicked off a little early yesterday, but they did so in style and with a Canadian bent as Matthew over at i (heart) music unveiled the fifth edition of his annual Hottest Bands in Canada poll. [...]

If you've spent any significant time 'round these parts, you'd know I'm fond of a certain trans-sexual folk/country singer from Calgary by the name of Rae Spoon . Bryan from Herohill tipped me off to a fantastic collaboration Spoon has done with multi-media artist Alexandre Decoupigny that blends Spoon's folk sounds with a more European back beat. The project is called What Are You Waiting For? (Worauf Wartest Du?), and is based on teh desires and dreams of those standing on the platform waiting for German subways. Hey, if Sufjan Stevens [...]
How long have you been reading QBiM? Do any of you remember when I used to do the 4 For the Weekend posts, and have 4 songs, sometimes even give the four albums the songs were from away? It's been awhile since I had one of those posts, and they might turn up again at some point along the way, but today's 4FTW is a different beast. I've been doing some inbox cleaning and wanted to pass along some of the info I've been sitting on, and decided to round it all up into one nice neat package. Four artists, [...]
