The Seattle-based record label helped defined the sound of the Pacific Northwest in the late '80s/early '90s putting our records from the likes Mudhoney, Soundgarden, TAD and Nirvana. Yesterday, unbeknownst to us, we missed the fact that March 8th marked the 44th anniversary of Bill Graham opening the legendary Fillmore East. The venue, located on Manhattan's E. 6th Street and 2nd Avenue, which was then known as the Lower East Side, hosted just about every important and influential rock act from 1968 to 1971. This weekend, the Dave Matthews Band will return to New York City with their traveling multi-day festival - Caravan - after Hurricane Irene forced the postponement of its final two days several weeks back. Moving just a bit north up the East River from Governor's Island to Randall's Island, the fest will retain its three-day format, where the DMB will be joined by the likes of Dispatch, who will play on Friday and Saturday nights, Warren Haynes, who will perform a special solo set, and vintage jam act From Good Homes. Bowery Presents has easily cemented themselves as the premiere concert promoter in the New York City area, booking shows in their fully-owned and operated venues as well as places like the Beacon and Radio City.
