It's the Valentine's Day edition of Friday on My Mind . The weekly collaborative effort between KEXP and King 5 News. This Valentines Day give the person you love the gift of music. 1980's music, because nothing says I love you more than the gift of synthesizers, angular hair, brightly colored pants, tucked in shirts, and of coarse xylophones. Do you realize how many 80's bands had xylophones? Oh and white shoes. And the music videos seemed to have very little, if any, structure other than a small budget for a hair stylist and zero attention to [...]
Still good. BBD was helping out ABC, which made the production quality of their music way better. This song hit #1 on the " Hot Dance Club Songs ," when it was released in 1990.

Hailing from the mighty fine city of Wolverhampton (no bias here at all, honest) teamABC make hectic, enthusiastic indie-rock similar to that of Los Campesinos! or fellow-Midlanders Johnny Foreigner . The band is the brainchild of frontman Steff, who is currently hard at work on the follow up to last years rather-charming debut Complaints EP. We caught up with Steff for a chat about how the forthcoming debut album is coming along, the bands high-point thus far and the Wolverhampton music scene... Good day! How is 2012 treating, anything exciting happened so far? [...]

Young the Giant are gearing up for a huge US tour starting in February to promote their self-titled debut album. Last night they hit Jimmy Kimmel's stage to perform, Cough Syrup and Apartments . A few of the staff are gearing up to see these guys at their sold-out show at Terminal 5. If these performances are any indication of their live shows, it should be a good time.

Paloma and I upgraded to HD recently which is how I ended up on the Game Show Network the other night. As HD is a new experience, I find that I surf for shows to look at rather than watch . I didn't even know we had the Game Show Network, but when I saw The $25,000 Pyramid listed as I scrolled through the channel guide and couldn't help but be curious as to what a game show from the 1970s might look like in HD. I tried [...]

Is everyone's favorite show about retro stewardesses about to be grounded? (Ha plane humor) Well there seems to be some confusion so let's break it down. The rumors began when actress, Karine Vanasse tweeted , "Well, we received THE call, #PanAm is only coming back for one more episode after Christmas. But up to the end, we'll give it our all !" But apparently Vanasse was misinformed because a rep for ABC then released a statement saying, "No, this is not correct. Nothing has changed. We are not canceling [...]

Today I have no pearls of wisdom, no meaningful musings, no lists to share. I have a few decadent stories, but I should probably keep those to myself since they all involve whiskey and nudity. So I will slightly alter the title of this blog and turn my attention to themes for great cities, particularly the song that's been playing in my head and on my computer since last night. A wise man once told me that every day deserves a perfect soundtrack. If that is so, then today mine would be "Paradise," the latest [...]

Ray Charles live in 1961 at the height of his powers 1961 was a banner year for Ray Charles. The crossover seeds he'd sewn with Atlantic on 1959's The Genius of Ray Charles had led him to bigger bands and orchestras and a contract with ABC. In 1960 he'd notched his first #1 on the pop chart with a cover of Hoagy Carmichael's "Georgia on My Mind," and by 1961 the demand for his concert appearances finally brought him to Europe, where he headlined the second-annual Antibes Jazz [...]
Complete recitation of Ray Charles' fifty-three singles for ABC Ray Charles long ago graduated from a hit-seeking artist to an omnipresent musical god. His iconic singles, innovative albums and sizzling live performances are so monumental as to obscure the time before they existed. It's all but impossible to recall the excitement of a new Ray Charles release climbing up the charts to popular acclaim and immortality. But Charles' genius was both artistic and commercial, and his growth and triumphs as a musician were paralleled by success on the charts. Concord's 5-disc set gathers the [...]

So are you guys as hooked to this show as I am? In my opinion it's definitely better than it's competitor Grimm . Although both shows take many liberties with the classic stories, Once Upon A Time does so in a way that seems to make sense. It's almost like getting a behind the scenes look at your fave fairy tales. That being said, tonight's episode ' The Price of Gold ', begins with a young Cinderella upset that she has been forbidden [...]

by BBG Citizens Arrest at Europa ( more by Keith Marlowe ) "Joe Martin, who played in Citizens Arrest during ABC No Rio's early days, remembers the space as offering a second chance. "For me, I had made the promise to myself that I would stop going to hardcore shows the day I got beat up. And then it happened to me, at one of the hardcore matinees they had--Judge, Born Against, and Affirmative Action. Some skinhead picked a fight with me and maybe I didn't get [...]
Congrats to my friends from the Blue Van for finally getting the break they deserve. Their single "Man Up" will be used on ABC's new show of the same name. Denmark's favorite indie retro rockers will now be heard on prime time every Tuesday night this fall on ABC.
There is something magical about this time of year. It's hard to put my finger on it but the changing colors, the crispness in the air, and the mood of the people all combine wonderfully for me in a near perfect, romantic and quite comforting melange. Essential to all of this, of course, is great music. Many of my favorite bands have released new music this fall (reviews coming soon!) but it's going to be a while before I decide if any of their albums are Classic Fall Records. What makes a Classic Fall [...]

Dead Letter Chorus - Wiggle Bay I went along to the Rewiggled party with a healthy dose of skepticism tucked firmly into my pocket. I mean, it's a Wiggles cover album - those songs were cool when I was in diapers, but there's no way they can transcend genre boundaries (as well as a couple of decades) - and the live performance wasn't going to be any better. Boo to me, it turns out. Dead Letter Chorus pulled out one hell of a cover, and delivered their own track Run Wild with their usual style - [...]

ABC - THE LOOK OF LOVE (DREAMTIME MIX V4.0) (MEDIAFIRE link due to server limitations) Hi Everybody! I got a new DreamTime Mix for you today. It's the 1982 single The Look Of Love by British band ABC . You can find the original version of this track on their album The Lexicon Of Love . I was never really happy with my previous attempts at the mix and decided [...]

by BBG Thou @ ABC No Rio DIY mainstay ABC No Rio erupted on Saturday afternoon (10/8) when Thou played a cover of Beastie Boys' "Sabotage" (video below), though by the time they launched into said cover the packed and sold out room was already knee deep in great riffs. Kicking off with an awesome set from Argonauts , the show also featured an appearance from Thou tourmates [...]
Taken from the 2011 album 'Prisoner'. Performed live in the ABC Dig Music office. The Jezabels are currently on tour in the UK, and coming to the US of A!
