The Weeknd's Abel Tesfaye is finally readying the release of his debut album proper, after the mixtape sagas of 2011 and 2012. 'Kiss Land' - the title track from it - is the first glimpse we've been given. A sprawling, eight-minute epic, it is a fascinating listen complete with twists and turns, odd samples and of course, Tesfaye's mesmerising croon. Amazingly, earlier this year The Weeknd announced an arena tour of the UK, a bold move for such a new artist but it pretty much encapsulates the confidence that drips throughout his work. Listen [...]

The Weeknd has delivered the eponymous track off his upcoming record Kiss Land . After entering this hedonism theme park, Abel Tesfaye so passionately croons away his most daring confessions. Amid various screams, the nearly 8 minute track quickly gains an aggressive path with an unrelenting thump of synth power. Alot of different beat changes on this, so listen closely to the horror.

The Weeknd takes us to "Kiss Land". The Weeknd is back with another sexual nugget. This one is "Kiss Land", the title track to Abel Tesfaye's forthcoming new album. The new song is...

It wasn't so long ago that we were singing the effusive praises of doleful instrumental guru shak. aka Netherlands resident Shakuru Tajiri, and we're here stopping off at that same place, albeit at a later date as the enigmatic virtuoso unleashes Same Time, Same Places upon us. Beginning with a crystalline wash of neutral ambience, it's only seconds before a searingly emotive guitar line pierces the sombre opacity – hauling softly scuffed clacking into the frame right with it. Again, it keens for a certain Abel Tesfaye to bring his shame and so too his pain along to [...]

R&B smoother The Weeknd does a unlikely hookup with crunk champion Juicy J on his new single “One of Those Nights”. Luckily this plays out more like a Abel Tesfaye track, as he croons the night away, on the infectious slow-burner. Even though, I really don’t think these two hang out in the same crowds, I’m sure they both know how to go out at night. Listen below and let Juicy yell “YEAH HO” in your ear.
Increasingly, I've been finding that perhaps the world's most fertile musical soils at this particular point in time seem to be those coating the island of Australia and the wispy bits of the Netherlands. The former has a firm grip on shoegaze (for which see kigo of moments ago), while the latter appears to have adopted a more liberal approach. Typical. Mineral Beings are, to my ears, one of the region's brightest hopes whilst in Utrecht's Le Guess Who? they boast the finest metropolitan festival my feet have yet taken me to. [...]
there's so much fully-formed though still purposefully rudimentary, retrospective yet pseudo-futuristic r'n'b buzzing about contemporarily that is, more often than not, inconceivably sordid to the ear. indeed, there's enough of the stuff to fill a smutty, blue-lit californian strip joint which, given its nonphysical properties, speaks volumes of its exponentially increased ubiquity. it's a call the long since lambasted witch house sub genre should still have to answer for I should think (heck – it's already been blamed for so much ill that another minor gripe oughtn't further deteriorate its now deservedly terminal bill of health) though we [...]
Lets slow it down a little bit on Valentine's Day. Abel Tesfaye, known as The Weeknd out of Toronto, Canada, of Ethiopian decent, has been gaining a lot of momentum every since Drake gave a shout out via Twitter. With a slow, crooning sound exhibiting strong blues influences tied into falsetto, The Weeknd has a bunch [...]

The Weeknd's new video doesn't feature twenty eight strippers, just two. Come on, Abel Tesfaye ! You're getting soft on me, man. You had the perfect set up with your new video for "Twenty Eight" , but it's the execution that's just wrong. You only feature TWO topless dancers when [...]
Filed under: News , New Music , New Releases Frazer Harrison, Getty With his Trilogy release still on shelves, The Weeknd 's figurehead Abel Tesfaye seems to be on the cusp of putting out a new studio album. Last night The Weeknd tweeted "2013" with an accompanying photo. The picture shows an Apple computer screen with two folders, one named "2013 art work" with the other named "2013 untitled [...]

If the remixing, re-packaging and re-releasing of his three mixtapes under the Trilogy umbrella and a slot on Jools Holland has told us anything, it's that Universal Republic think this is the right time for Abel Tesfaye to make his mainstream crossover. And there is no denying that his is music that deserves to be heard by infinetly more than currently are. Over the course of four-and-a-half minutes he stole the show from the clutches of the prorgramme's other performers of note, Lana Del Rey and Palma Violets. His voice, along with a beefy [...]

Releasing music for free might be a quick way of garnering attention, but it’s not necessarily a route to success. Yet last year both Frank Ocean and Abel Tesfaye (aka The Weeknd) released free mixtapes to critical acclaim and have gone on, in 2012, to release two of the most stylistically important albums of the year. ‘Trilogy’, a re-release collection of last year’s three free mixtapes, marks the first major label release from Tesfaye, who signed to [...]

Over a year and a half after releasing the first installment of the Trilogy mixtapes, The Weeknd has appeared several times on Drake ’s well-loved Take Care , attracted droves of fans to a widely anticipated performance at Coachella, toured with Florence and The Machine , and even hung out with Diddy and Ciara . Still, Abel Tesfaye has remained absurdly quiet [...]
The Weeknd feat. Drake - “The Zone”, directed by Abel Tesfaye himself.

The Weeknd drop their trio of reissued mixtapes very soon, so it's only fitting that we finally hear one of the few new tracks that will accompany the old tracks. 'Twenty Eight' is a welcome addition to Abel Tesfaye's aresenal, adopting more of a straight up RnB tone than the slowest-of-the slow-jams that he became well for. Lets not carried away thought, this is hardly 180bpm punk. Things still swing by in a relaxed, casual manner and Tesfaye's falsetto croon is still as wonderful as ever. Listen below to 'Twenty Eight'.

The Weeknd - Twenty Eight [...]
Filed under: News , New Music Karl Walter, Getty Images The Weeknd is the pseudonym of one of R&B's rising stars, Abel Tesfaye, the 22-year-old Canadian singer/producer who released the mixtape House of Balloons last spring to immense critical acclaim. After playing Coachella this past summer, The Weeknd hit New York City for a trio of packed shows, two at the infamous Terminal 5, and one, for more adventurous concert-goers, at the [...]
Filed under: News , New Music , New Releases Getty | Getty Toronto rhythm 'n' gloom star The Weeknd posted the new song "Enemy" on YouTube yesterday and it should make fans of depression anthem peddlers The Smiths take note. The song, which as of Friday morning had almost 95,000 views (and over 5,700 "likes"), takes the chorus from the Morrissey and Johnny Marr co-written Smiths song "Please, Please, Please [...]
