Everybody (well, maybe except for Win Butler) loves Wayne Coyne. As the whimsical ringleader behind indie rock mainstay the Flaming Lips, it seems like this guy’s been putting out albums since before a lot of us were even born. And, luckily, there’s no end in sight. But if by now, you’re only expecting more of the same, think again. The Lips’ newest LP, The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends, is a well-done and complex collaborative effort, a revolutionary premise for a band who have run the gamut of the indie game. [...]
Ponykiller makes acid rock sound new again.

Evil Eye Gypsy came to my attention and I thought I should add this acid rock, blues band from Dayton in the USA. With seven to fit on the stage you may anticipate Sarah (Vocals), Nick (Bass), Jay (Guitar / Vocals / Keyboards), Mike (Guitar / Harmonica / Keyboards), Jonathan (Drums), Sherree (Percussion / Vocals) and Wolfgang (Guitar / Keyboards / Percussion / Violin / Vocals) would step in to each others space, but far from it. Evil Eye Gypsy [...]

Holy Shit! This track is an all around slammer! Love the acid synth & the heavy duty kick. Buy Track here . Kimen - Acid Rocker (Original Mix)

Due to massive demand from the clamoring horde of heavy-psyche rock, proto-metal, and Poobah fans world-wide, Poobah ’s Let Me In vinyl edition has seen a second pressing and is now back in stock at Ripple Music and the labels dedicated group of distributors. Earlier this year, the award-winning multi-colored vinyl edition of Let Me In sold out, yet the calls and orders continued to come in. Second and all subsequent pressings are on classic sleek and sexy black wax, and like the first [...]
Huge tune from Henrik B called 'Acid Rocker'. This was recently released on David Tort's imprint Mansion Recordings , and is already being played by the likes of Avicii and Norman Doray. Pulsing progressive chords and the fast paced beat make this a sure fire pick to cause mayhem in the clubs! Original Mix... David Tort Remix [BOMB]...

Before I even get into these two big tunes, I have to ask a quick question to our readers. Is anyone else extremely excited for the amount of amazing electronic dance music that will be played in NYC this weekend. Like wow...WOW! Friday is Boys Noize at Webster Hall with BNR label head Housemeister opening ( tickets here ), and Saturday Night is Avicii at Pacha with Dutch prodigies Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano opening ( tickets here ). Last time I saw Avicii at Pacha, his edits blew me away. Last time I saw Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano [...]
The Black Angels cast an acid-rock spell on NYC.
Samurai Blues is serious improvisation between two incredibly talented performers

Last night, 12 hours before my first neuroanatomy exam of the semester, I went to see DJ Craze at a hip-hop show near downtown LA. Now, I've typically only ever seen Craze in a rave-ish type context, but this show last night pure hippity frickin hoppity, featuring a hilariously cheesy yet talented rapper Yelawolf. So during Craze's set, after an enjoyable half-hour of some Boys In The Hood, M.O.P., and assorted classics, he noticed that the crowd had sort of fizzled and lost energy. What'd he decide to do? "Uhhh hold up! Lemme drop somethin' crazy on yo ass!" - [...]

Jesus is coming, and unlike some people , Bardo Pond is willing to wait. That's pretty much the gist of "Don't Know About You," the single off their recent self-titled release. For an s/t, it's been a long time coming. Philadelphia's Bardo Pond has been playing and recording muddy, scary acid rock for over 2 decades now. I saw them play a free show at Kung Fu Necktie a few years ago, and even without drugs they were a trip. This latest album is a heavy dose: a distillation of the genre that peaks somewhere during the [...]

I don’t think I’ve ever heard a band from Portugal before checking out the new one from Black Bombaim . If there’s more shit like this going on there I may have a new vacation destination. These guys give Tia Carrera a run for their money in the mega-tripped out Jimidelic jam department. Equal parts Band Of Gypsys and Experience , Black Bombaim have an outstanding rhythmic groove that prevents the session from getting stale. There are only 2 songs on the LP – “Side A” and “Side B,” both [...]
Historical significance aside, Bless Its Pointed Little Head is still the definitive live Jefferson Airplane album. Bless Its Pointed Little Head - United States - Jefferson Airplane - Thomas Jefferson - Counties

Hot on the heels of their blistering new release "Acid Blues is the White Man's Burden," JPT Scare Band have been tearing through vinyl sales with abandon. Perhaps it's that glorious two-tone, psychedelic vinyl? Perhaps it's the gatefold cover and trippy artwork? Nah, it's the intense, legendary guitar-work of Terry Swope and the crushing rhythm section of Paul Grigsby and Jeff Litrell. But rather than have us toot the band's horn, we thought we'd let others lead the JPT parade. JPT Scare [...]

This is the first release on The Ripple Effect’s home grown label, Ripple Music , but before you start yelling about nepotism let me set the record straight. I have nothing to do with the label. Racer and Pope are in California and I’m over here in Brooklyn, NY. We’ve never met. What brought us all together is a mutual love of kick ass heavy rock, especially obscure stuff from the 1970’s and it doesn’t get more obscure than the JPT Scare Band . Truth (and Janey) be told, I’d be drooling all over this even if I [...]
