ACL Aftershow Review: Cult and Smith Westerns @ the Parish

ACL Aftershow Review: Cult and Smith Westerns @ the Parish It's a little late for ACL reviews, but after decompressing from the week I took a moment to write a few of my thoughts. Friday night in Austin during ACL weekend is an interesting one. The energy and presence descended upon Austin by visitors and the music brings a vibe that only SXSW and FFFF can trump. After the first night of the 3-day party at Zilker, a few non-fest goers gathered to catch a glimpse of two of the up and coming acts of this year's line-up. See more details after the jump. After a brisk walk [...]

ACL Fest 2011 Highlights (Animated GIF Edition)

ACL Fest 2011 Highlights (Animated GIF Edition) When @LMBNOLA editor Wes got his new camera and started throwing together animated gifs from the shows he had been seeing, I was immediately hooked. Behold...here's a collection of photos from ACL Fest 2011 in animated GIF format. It's hard to portray how much fun a festival can really be, but I think this does it about the best I can do. We've got some action from Santigold , Skrillex , Coldplay , Kanye and more. Read on for the full set of awesomeness... [...]

@LMBNOLA: 2011 Austin City Limits Festival Wrap

My Morning Jacket - Smokin From Shootin/End of Run Thru live at Austin City Limits, Sept 17th, 2011
Austin City Limits served as the ultimate break from the status quo, an ephemeral voyage to a utopia far removed from normative daily life, embedded in the heart of one America's most interesting cities. Also, the extended weekend was a long overdue first trip to Austin, TX for me personally, and I immediately became enamored with the place (a city with great live music and great Mexican food - is this real life ?). The familiar ambitions of seeing as many bands as humanly possible and packing a month's worth of debaucherousness [...]

PHOTOS: Fleet Foxes @ ACL Fest 2011 (DAY THREE)

PHOTOS: Fleet Foxes @ ACL Fest 2011 (DAY THREE) The final set that I shot at this year's Austin City Limits Music Festival was a band I was super excited to see having missed their last roll through the Bay Area... Fleet Foxes . My buddy saw the show down in Big Sur and was totally blown away, so I was amped on this show from the get-go and I was singing along the best I could as their beautiful songs and melodies took over the festival field that final day at the festival. It was the perfect chilled out end of the "work" day [...]

PHOTOS: Death From Above 1979 @ ACL Fest 2011 (DAY THREE)

PHOTOS: Death From Above 1979 @ ACL Fest 2011 (DAY THREE) After a pretty chillaxed Broken Social Scene set to start my day three at ACL Fest , I met up with my crew and caught a thrilling end to the Bomba Estero set. We all agreed that set was amazing and definitely got that world-music-dance vibe down, which got me a bit more pumped up to head over to see the Death From Above 1979 set. I really loved shooting these guys; it made for a fun set of animated gifs (which are coming soon). Read on for the full photoset... [...]

PHOTOS: Broken Social Scene @ ACL Fest 2011 (DAY THREE)

PHOTOS: Broken Social Scene @ ACL Fest 2011 (DAY THREE) We've got a few more photosets to get posted from this year's ACL Fest , but we were definitely a bit more mellow on our coverage of the third and final day of the festival. At least I was. A bit of that fatigue sets in and you start to make a few decisions on when to chill and relax, so I was psyched to see a few bands on Sunday's lineup that allowed me to float around because I had seen them before (which, in turn, allowed me to chill). Broken Social Scene [...]

PHOTOS / REVIEW: Stevie Wonder @ ACL Fest 2011 (DAY TWO)

PHOTOS / REVIEW: Stevie Wonder @ ACL Fest 2011 (DAY TWO) To finish off our second day at ACL Fest 2011, I got the pleasure of shooting a few minutes of the Stevie Wonder set that was headlining the west side of the park while Cassidy Blackwell hung back and took in the whole set as a fan. Read on for her words and my photos from the set... For months I have been giddy with excitement to see Stevie Wonder's headlining Saturday night performance at ACL, but apparently so were the 80,000 attendees. Half hour before his set began, [...]

PHOTOS: TV On the Radio @ ACL Fest 2011 (DAY TWO)

PHOTOS: TV On the Radio @ ACL Fest 2011 (DAY TWO) After the epic Cee Lo set on Saturday at ACL , I ran over to the other end of the field and caught the TV On the Radio set (well, most of it). The band was in prime attention in the photo pit and the band came out strong with "Halfway Home," which got everyone clapping and singing along quite a bit. Here's my photo gallery from the set: [...]

VIDEO: Phish – "Carini" (Live @ Essex Junction, VT 9/14/11)

VIDEO: Phish – "Carini" (Live @ Essex Junction, VT 9/14/11) Want a quick break from all of that ACL Fest coverage? Cool, we do, too! Check out the official LivePhish.com HD video release from the band's most recent (and summer tour finale) show for Vermont Flood victims up near in the band's stomping grounds in Vermont. I like that we get a little "Trey talk" in the beginning introducing the song to everyone by giving a shout-out to the dude that used to help them on the road (who apparently wrote a piece-of-shit thesis)... Download the show here [...]

Radiohead Announce Two Shows in NYC around SNL, Colbert Report

Radiohead Announce Two Shows in NYC around SNL, Colbert Report Radiohead @ Outside Lands 2008 | Photo © Justin Ward I've been knee-deep in media from ACL Fest but I did catch the news earlier via brooklynvegan that Radiohead has a busy week planned next week when they visit New York to play the season premier of Saturday Night Live this weekend with host Alex Baldwin. They've announced two shows for the Roseland Ballroom (9/28-9/29) and tickets will go on sale this upcoming Monday, Sept. 26th at 10am. Radiohead has [...]

PHOTOS: Cee Lo @ ACL Fest 2011 (DAY TWO)

PHOTOS: Cee Lo @ ACL Fest 2011 (DAY TWO) Cee Lo Green easily won the prize for "hottest band" (not literally) at this year's Austin City Limits Music Festival . Most artists did indeed bring an extra level of production to the stages at ACL Fest and the fest and audience only demands the highest of their artists, but Cee Lo brought a level of production that few would ever consider. "Let's just build a band with hot ass chicks that wail on their instruments," maybe the easiest way to still get visual attention at a set during the day time hours when [...]

PHOTOS / VIDEOS: Skrillex @ ACL Fest 2011 (DAY TWO)

PHOTOS / VIDEOS: Skrillex @ ACL Fest 2011 (DAY TWO) One of the most highly anticipated sets of the entire ACL Fest 2011 weekend (judging from the size of the swelling mid-day crowd) was young up-and-comer Skrillex , who's going to be gracing the cover of Spin's next issue. The set was insane and the crowd got so bad even 20 minutes before his set that the security team had to shut down the pit access to photographers. I was bummed but ended up raging nicely with my team and my new friend Odie who was chilling back behind the soundboard areas. The [...]

VIDEOS: Iron and Wine @ ACL Fest 2011 (DAY TWO)

VIDEOS: Iron and Wine @ ACL Fest 2011 (DAY TWO) After an absolutely blow-out Day One at ACL Fest and tons of amazing photo opportunities for yours truly, Saturday seemed to present a few new set of challenges at the festival that I wasn't fully prepared for. First and foremost, the rain was threatening and it was starting to come down just enough to get kind of wet and just enough to feel like you need to protect your electronics, so the first band I really wanted to see during the day wasn't something that I could photograph. Iron and Wine played [...]

My Morning Jacket: New Dates (SF, LA, NYC), Videos from ACL Fest

My Morning Jacket December 2011 Tour Announcement!
Good news for My Morning Jacket fans just dropped in my inbox. While the band is coming off a triumphant headlining set on Saturday night at ACL Fest , they're looking ahead to a December full of awesomeness with the announcement that they'll be playing dates with Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Delta Spirit and Band of Horses , with the latter band getting the honor of gracing the stage with MMJ at their return to Madison Square Garden on Wednesday, December 14th. [...]

VIDEOS: Official ACL Fest 2011 Recaps

ACL SUNDAY RECAP
Happy Monday, everyone. It's been a busy weekend for us here at LMB HQ (as you can see with the ton of posts over the weekend). Me and Wes have been partying it up at Austin City Limits Music Festival down here in Austin, TX and covering some amazing music front to back. Expect a TON of updates this week from our media coming out of the festival. Maybe it's the weather, the good vibes, amazing music, or perhaps the cheap-ass tacos, but I'm definitely [...]

PHOTOS: Roundup from ACL Fest 2011 (DAY TWO)

PHOTOS: Roundup from ACL Fest 2011 (DAY TWO) Skrillex @ Austin City Limits 2011 - Photo by Wesley Hodges For my second day of Austin City Limits Music Festival , I was psyched to be greeted with some rain and an amazing set from Iron and Wine, more rain and some serious whomp-ass dubstep from Skrillex, a sexy set (with amazingly sexy backing band) from Cee Lo, beautiful noise from TV On the Radio, and classics and funky good vibes from Stevie Wonder . I had an amazing time and I'm heading out now for day three, so [...]

PHOTOS / WORDS: Kanye West @ ACL Fest 2011 (DAY ONE)

PHOTOS / WORDS: Kanye West @ ACL Fest 2011 (DAY ONE) To finish off our first day at Austin City Limits Music Festival, we raged hard at the Kanye West set through all three acts and every bit of over-production that you'd want and expect from Kanye. The words that follow were written up by Cassidy Blackwell of Natural Selection , a much bigger Kanye fan than myself and a girl that knew what she wanted to see from this set. I snapped the photos at the end of the review... We were welcomed to Austin by a city [...]

PHOTOS: Coldplay @ ACL Fest 2011 (DAY ONE)

PHOTOS: Coldplay @ ACL Fest 2011 (DAY ONE) Coldplay was an unbelievable cool band to get to shoot. Seeing the band play "Yellow" and really kick up their stage theatrics was exactly what I had hoped to see and it came out in the second slot of the set. The crowd really ate it up and it was a clear juxtaposition to the Kanye West set that was about to start on the other side of the field about 15 minutes after the first notes from Coldplay were played. Chris Martin is an absolute ham, too. [...]

PHOTOS / VIDEOS: Pretty Lights @ ACL Fest 2011

PHOTOS / VIDEOS: Pretty Lights @ ACL Fest 2011 As my first day of Austin City Limits Music Fest rolled on, I left Santigold early to go shoot Pretty Lights , but upon arriving to the pit promptly as "I Know The Truth" began, the security informed me that I needed a special armband proving my photo pit status for this set in particular. Nobody informed any of the press of this as we checked-in earlier in the day, so needless to say I was a bit frustrated that I didn't get to bring my SLR front and center for the [...]

PHOTOS: Foster The People @ ACL Fest 2011 (DAY ONE)

PHOTOS: Foster The People @ ACL Fest 2011 (DAY ONE) Foster The People are a band that I've heard quite a bit about but I had no chance of seeing them live or really diving into their catalog before this year's ACL Fest . Their set on the Google+ stage was nothing but triumphantly, eclectic indie rock and everyone in this band is way too good looking for their own good. They have a bright future ahead of them making girls swoon just like those dudes in Vampire Weekend have done; indie rock by cute affluent-looking white dudes. There's always going to be a market [...]
