Adam Yauch: A Year and a Day without MCA

Adam Yauch: A Year and a Day without MCA The closest I've come to reaching an understanding with death is this: death is a long echo. It’s deafening at first and as soon as you think the echo has faded, some thing comes along and pings it back into your life. And when death creeps into music it’s like an echo chamber. Maybe it rattles in the rests of Jeff Buckley songs, or lives inside Notorious B.I.G.’s words, or hangs on every Elliott Smith note. Chuck Klosterman tried to write about the mysticism of death in rock 'n' roll in his book Killing Yourself To Live , only [...]

The local Brooklyn Heights Blog had been advocating for the park name-change and was on hand [...]

8 Defining Beastie Boys Moments That Need to Appear in Ad-Rock and Mike D’s Memoir

Michael "Mike D" Diamond and Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz, the two surviving members of the Beastie Boys, are co-authoring a memoir of their time in one of the most important hip-hop acts of the past three decades. According to the New York Times , the book will be less of a conventional tell-all and more of an "oral history," complete with a "strong visual component." It's not clear exactly what that will entail, but there are some standout moments from the Beastie Boys' career that fans will no doubt be expecting to hear about in Diamond [...]

Video: Animated Tribute To Adam “MCA” Yauch

A Year and a Day
It has been nearly a year since Adam "MCA" Yauch of the Beastie Boys passed, so it is only right this fantastic animated tribute popped up to pay respect. The video goes along with an upcoming London art show held by artist James Curran that will apparently hold 35 prints that will be up for sale. I assume those 35 prints will have something to do with the art shown during these lovable animations. Proceeds from the event will go to cancer patients. [ via ] You can watch the video below and check out artist James Curran's [...]

Sunday Slaylist: Gone but not forgotten (2012 edition)

With the year beginning to draw to a close, and with only a bare handful os Sundays left for 2012 Slaylists, this week we're turning out attention to those we've lost in 2012. We're talking about the bands that have either broken up or gone on hiatus, as well as the more serious subject of musicians who sadly died at some point over the last 12 months. The first half of this week's Sunday Spotify Slaylist are bands that fall into those first two categories - bands that either finally [...]

Dear Advertisers, Adam Yauch Says “F*ck You” From The Afterlife

As I learned this past week at work, great leaders who have died cast a wide shadow even after they leave this small, densely populated sphere of rock limply floating [...]

MCA’s Will Stays True to His Anti-Commercial Lyrics

MCA’s Will Stays True to His Anti-Commercial Lyrics There are many Beastie Boys lyrics that float around in my head, ready to be recalled at any moment. One in particular goes back to 19982s Hello Nasty and the song "Putting Shame In Your Game".  It's the third verse where MCA raps in his signature gravel tone, "I might stick around or I might be a fad, but I won't sell my song for no TV ad."  Those sentiments were echoed in 20042s To The 5 Boroughs and the record "Triple Trouble" where he raps, "What you get is what you see, and you won't [...]

Don’t Expect To Hear Beastie Boys In Advertisements

You know what's probably the most punk thing ever? Dedicating a portion of your will to prohibiting companies from using your music in commercials and advertisements. That's exactly what the late Adam "MCA" Yauch , of Beastie Boys , did. As you are likely thinking: Yes, Ad-Rock and Mike D could choose to sell the music if they wanted to at some point. But do you really think they'd do that to MCA's (and  their ) legacy? No fucking way. RIP MCA. [ via ]

Beastie Boys Say They Recorded New Music With Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch In 2011

With the tributes already pouring out, we now receive word from straight from the Beastie Boys that we can expect more music from them, MCA included. In fact, the hip-hop legends had recorded music with the late great back in late 2011, despite him being diagnosed with cancer back in 2009. It appears that Yauch insisted on recording in the studio, even being able to lend some of his vocals to the mix. "Adam instigated it. It could only come from him, in terms of where he was at with his cancer [...]

Campaign to Rename Brooklyn Park for Adam Yauch Hits Hurdle

In the wake of Adam Yauch's tragic and untimely death from cancer, we were interested to read that a group of Brooklyn residents have started a campaign to rename a Brooklyn Heights park in his honor. However, according to the Brooklyn Paper , there's a problem with the idea: the park in question is already named in honor of another notable Brooklyner. It commemorates one  Dr Edward Robinson Squibb , a pharmaceutical manufacturer who started his first laboratory on the site in the 19th century. Squibb sounds like an interesting fellow — amongst other [...]

Beastie Boys - Sabotage / MCA tribute
A wonderful tribute to Adam "MCA" Yauch by James Winters: kids re-enacting Beastie Boys' "Sabotage"!

“Sabotage” de Beastie Boys, con niños

“Sabotage” de Beastie Boys, con niños Haciendo un homenaje a la reciente muerte de Adam Yauch, el cineasta James Winters recreó el video " Sabotage " de Beastie Boys , originalmente filmado por Spike Jonze. Completamente safe for work (no como el video original), esta versión seguro les saca una sonrisa. Y la versión original:

Is it too soon to joke about an MCA hologram? Not on Twitter.
