This just in: DJ Hurricane , who worked with the Beastie Boys from 1986-2000, has released a statement regarding the death of Adam "MCA" Yauch (pictured above). Here is the full statement from the NYC-bred jock: As I mourn my friend, Adam Yauch aka MCA, I send my heartfelt condolences to his wife, daughter and loving parents. I think of all of the good times we shared that I will cherish forever. We rocked so many stages together: from Jerusalem to Italy to North America to South America to Japan to Australia and [...]
The late Adam "MCA" Yauch wasn't just a beyond-skilled and influential rapper. The founding member of the Beastie Boys was also a gifted bassist, filmmaker, and, in the case of this post, journalist. Many of likely know that he had a close relationship with the Tibetan people, something that's highlighted here in his interview with none other than the Dalai Lama. If it's too difficult to read due to the smaller size of the photograph, just zoom in and it'll be an easier read. Enjoy. Huge props to Babylon Falling for scanning [...]
So What Cha Want - Beastie Boys - The Record Company cover - Click to download. LA based, The Record Company, does their bluesy rendition/tribute of So What Cha Want in honor of Adam Yauch’s (MCA) recent passing. It’s a horrible tragedy that the universe has taken this musician from us. But his life and life’s work are now being celebrated. It’s sad that it takes one’s passing to realize what a true talent and amazing person we had. Heaven just got one more great talent… RIP MCA 1964-2012
Filed under: News Jason Merritt/Getty Images Timing, as the expression goes, is everything. And sometimes, timing can be inadvertently terrible, like lawsuit leveled against the Beastie Boys that's rubbing salt on the still-fresh wound of Adam Yauch's passing. On May 3, one day before Adam 'MCA' Yauch died following a three-year cancer battle, record label Tuf America hit the Beasties with a l awsuit for copyright infringement over their two most [...]

There's not many words that I can write that will do justice to Adam 'MCA' Yauch, one third of the Beastie Boys, who lost his fight with cancer this past weekend. Many have penned moving tributes to the impact that Yauch had in his chosen fields of music, his lesser known talent for film making , and his humanitarian efforts. Others have shown their love through small actions, with Yauch's home town sporting teams the New York Mets and New York Knicks giving respect where it's due. [...]

Beastie Boys' Ad-Rock and Mike D have both issued statements regarding the tragic death of their longtime bandmate, Adam 'MCA' Yauch. On the band's website , Ad-Rock wrote, "As you can imagine, shit is just fkd up right now. But i wanna say thank you to all our friends and family (which are kinda one in the same) for all the love and support. i’m glad to know that all the love that Yauch has put out into the world is coming right back at him. thank you." Mike D posted his [...]

Before my very first Homecoming Dance in 1999, two seniors at my school were killed in a car accident. I didn't know these kids at all, which made the grieving process a strange one. I remember how the din of the school's hallways was hushed the next day, I remember seeing friends huddled in in clumps outside the school crying or praying or both, and I remember being driven out to the country, out to the spot of the accident where a makeshift memorial had taken shape. Around the fateful tree lay bouquets of flowers, stuffed animals, some hand-written notes, [...]

photo by Gregory A. Perez For most fans, Adam Yauch 's death came as a surprise. We had known of his diagnosis and treatment for cancer of the preaortic gland and lymph node since the summer of 2009, but updates since then had varied, but mainly positive, ranging from claiming that he had "beat cancer" to "reports... are exaggerated" to "He's doing OK," so to learn that the Beastie Boys ' MCA had died last Friday at the young age of 47 was a hard blow. Far less surprising, though, has been [...]
On today's Rock it Out! Blog episode, we say farewell to Adam Yauch aka MCA of the Beastie Boys. He died on May 4, 2012. Feel free to share your thoughts about him in the comment section.
As most of us in our 30+ years of life we have grown up with The Beastie Boys and same goes with Coldplay. Hear their tribute to the late Adam (MCA) Yauch, which they performed on May 4th, 2012 at the Hollywood Bowl. RIP MCA

Photo by G. RIP MCA on the marquee of Madison Square Garden I am a huge Beastie Boys fan, so naturally I have been really sad about the death of MCA (Adam Yauch), but seeing this on the marquee of Madison Square Garden in New York really brought it home, and it made me cry! RIP Adam! Thank you so much for all the great music that has and will forever rock my world! [...]
Beastie Boys filmed an unreleased musical performance of "The New Style" for the aborted 3rd season of "Chappelle's Show" in late fall 2004. It was on a boat in the East River, NYC. R.I.P. Adam "MCA" Yauch!!!
Punk-angst with some of the best structured songs to come out of the 80's, Licensed To Ill is what happens when you take a visionary like Rick Rubin (hate him or love him, the man is still a genius) and put him in a room with three kids out of New York who were hungry, talented, and ready to make an artistic change.

Beastie Boys was always a tricky act for me to follow. On one hand, Licensed to Ill (1986) defined my later high-school experience. It was a massive, band-breaking album, but for Beastie Boys, not quite definitive. Musically, it's primitive, a time-capsule effort that's representative of its era but hardly representative of Beastie Boys. It barely hinted at the sophisticated direction the trio would take with its follow-up, Paul's Boutique (1989), which, more than anything, set the dominant tone of the Brooklynites' discography. Beastie Boys was the first white rap act to go platinum, [...]

“ It feels good to play a little music / Tears running down my face 'cause I love to do it ” Adam Yauch - "Root Down" Beastie Boys - "I Don't Know" Adam Yauch who lost his three year battle with Salivary Gland cancer on Friday (4th May) certainly crammed a lot of life into his all too short 47 years. A Buddist, Tibet freedom campaigner and concert organiser, film distributor, director, magazine [...]
As you'll no doubt have heard by now, on Friday 04 May 2012, Adam Yauch - aka MCA - from the Beastie Boys , died after losing his battle against cancer of the parotid salivary gland . He was just 47 years old. To mark this sad occasion, for this week's Sunday Spotify Slaylist we're looking back at the Beastie Boys' early, pre-hip hop punk rock material. While it's true that the Beastie Boys didn't find mainstream success until their game-changing Licensed To Ill , the band never forgot their punk [...]

If you don’t connect with the Beastie Boy’s albums, you fall under one of two categories: 1. You are one of those people who proclaims loudly that you are in search of “high art,” while secretly you crank the volume when “No Sleep Till Brooklyn” comes on the radio. 2. You have no sense of rhythm whatsoever and words such as “inappropriate” escape your mouth on a regular basis. The Beastie’s music doesn’t need to sacrifice fun to make art and doesn’t need to sacrifice art to make fun. Now that this seemingly lighthearted, simple notion comes [...]
