Kara Kara is Dublin-based Kieran Dold and his debut EP is simply stunning. It's all done on keyboards and using - wait for it - a GameBoy. I knew you could make music using that technique but I didn't knew the songs could be so breathtaking. 'Haunted GameBoys', for example, [Read more]
Sunken Foal's latest EP Richter Versions finds him re-interpreting Richter Collective artists Adebisi Shank, Hands Up Who Wants To Die and The Redneck Manifesto in his own unique way. Rather than cut and paste the component parts, Sunken Foal transcribed all of the performed instruments into a midi sequencer and arranged the parts for synthesizers. Adebisi Shank, Cosby Stage In terms of live acts in Ireland, Adebisi Shank are hard to beat. They could have definitely benefitted from a later time slot – the 3PM mark was perhaps a bit too early for some revellers who were suffering from the night before, given the amount of noise this trio are capable of making. But nevertheless they give it their absolute all and rock the Cosby Stage to its core. Energetic, frantic, raucous – it's everything we've come to expect from an Adebisi Shank gig. It's difficult to pinpoint highlights, as from the moment [...]

Aracde Fire , Pulp , Interpol , White Lies , The Chemical Brothers , O Emperor , Adebisi Shank and one of [...]

It's getting so you know Choice Music Prize season is upon us. Beards are stroked down to a thin stubble as the very nature of awards ceremonies is pondered aloud. You may spot some of the nominated artists on your travels around our capital looking tidy and pleased with themselves. If all this wasn't unsettling enough, ten of the best Irish LP's of the preceding 12 months are being valued in terms of bookies odds. Nine of these ten hopefuls running in the 19.30 at Vicar St are here tonight to be inspected and heard in [...]
