Back when he visited DC with Girl Talk at the 9:30 Club, we asked Penguin Prison to stop by the Gibson Guitar Showroom to play us a couple of intimate, acoustic pieces. "The Worse It Gets" is the first of these, an otherwise jam of a track transformed into a smooth, beautiful piece with just piano and guitar. There are few bands we adore here at ATG more than Grouplove . I've said it before and I'll say it again: I've never seen a bunch of friends on stage who appreciate each other as much as these guys do. That feeling translates well into the band's video for "Itchin' on a Photograph," their debut single for Canvasback / Atlantic Records . Kids in masks have never been so terrifyingly adorable. According to MOKB , the latest video for Headless Horseman 's "Wavlngth" is the second in a three-part series of treatments done by different directors. This time around we've got the Wooden Lens team behind the camera, who's adolescent take on this glitchy surf-pop number oddly feels just right. Olivia Bouyssou Merilahti's voice is what indie starlets are made of. She gives the adorable but haunting music crafted with her partner in crime, Dan Levy, an alluring quality, one strong enough that it makes me wonder why songs like "Too Insistent" haven't gotten more blog play here in the States. The video for said horn-frilled number fits the track's vibe perfectly. Merilahti is straight up beautiful and the two older folks dancing just warms my heart, but the whole four-eyes thing? It boggles my mind why we haven't featured Wild Orchid Children here on ATG before. The Seattle seven-piece features members of Gatsby's American Dream (welcome back!), Kay Kay And His Weathered Underground , and Search/Rescue . Forget what you know about those bands though; Wild Orchid Children sounds nothing like its predecessors. Sometimes a video is too beautiful to pass up. This can absolutely be said for Woodkid a.k.a. Yoann Lemoine's "Iron," a majestic, horn-backed track deserving of this fantastic visual treatment. It's no surprise this Viking-inspired epic looks so good though. Lemoine's more known for his work behind the camera, directing music videos like Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream." Yeah, that Katy Perry. Woodkid's Iron EP is available now on Green United Music .
Darwin Deez stopped by the Gibson Guitar Showroom before his show at the Black Cat to talk and play some music for us. Check out this intimate performance of "Bed Space," one of the more emotional tracks off his eponymous debut album. Seriously, great stuff.
