As a result of certain life events due to transpire next year, I may not be going to concerts / festivals at the same rate I used to, so it's a good thing that I went all out this year. This was my first year I went to Bonnaroo in addition to my usual Pitchfork Fest / Pygmalion coverage, and I got to see some of all-time favorite, bucket list artists for the first time like New Order, Jeff Mangum and the Beach Boys. Below are my 20 favorite live shows of the year. You can visit the [...]

Nothing better than a little live action to get the weekend started. And if there is one thing that Alabama Shakes know it is definitely some sweet sweet live action. Check out this chill jam session the band did at Ray Davies' Konk Studios of "I Ain't The Same" below and don't forget to grab their Boys & Girls album which came out earlier this year... iTunes Boys & Girls - [...]

Alynda Lee Segarra has a back story that sounds like it could be found in the pages of a Jack Kerouac novel. At the age of 17, she left her home in the Bronx and criss-crossed the country by hopping freight trains and found herself in playing the washboard in band of made up of fellow travelers called The Dead Man Street Orchestra . Segarra eventually landed herself in New Orleans, picked up the banjo, began writing her own music and formed her own band - Hurray For The Riff Raff . [...]
By this point we know that Alabama Shakes are an incredibly tight live band and can deliver day in day out. Last night they proved it once again with a visit to Jimmy Fallon and a performance of "Be Mine" from their album Boys & Girls . Check out the performance at the top courtesy of The Audio Perv .

For a band who just released their debut album in April of this year, Alabama Shakes sounded and performed like seasoned veterans of the stage. The band's lightning-fast rise earned them a headlining spot as they played in front of an overflowing crowd at the This Tent and they knocked it out of the park. I've just gotten acquainted with their album Boys & Girls , and after witnessing their spellbinding set, it's quickly climbing up my list of favorite 2012 releases. It's no secret that lead singer Brittany Howard has some amazing [...]
These guys can put on an incredible show. I had heard of them a little bit before the festival from a co-worker as something that I had to listen to and I was not disappointed. It looked like they were genuinely having fun up on the Bigfoot stage and that enjoyment of music was as infectious as the sound itself. I found myself surprised that the southern rock was so enjoyable as quite frankly I am not usually a fan. Way to make me a believer guys.

After a happy meetup with my NYC PR friend Marni and some finger food from the final press reception of this year’s Great Escape, I was on my own again. As a wheat allergy sufferer, finding food to go can be a bit of a challenge; for example, pasties aren’t too good for my body, and neither are sandwiches. I can have an occasional hamburger bun, but I try to avoid bread and pasta where I can. Knowing I had hours ahead of me for my last night at the festival, I decided to duck into the Yo [...]

Alabama Shakes are next up for you to enjoy and they visited David Letterman to lay down a spine tingling rendition of their single " Hold On " which features on their recently released album Boys & Girls . Brittany Howard's voice is as soulful as they come and the band are as solid as they get. Put the two together and you have one hell of a great performance to watch at the top via The Audio Perv .

When I was making my 2011 list of top 5 albums I gave an honorable mention to a four song EP from a little band called Alabama Shakes . Four months later that same little band was adding a third NYC tour date after selling out both the Bowery Ballroom and Music Hall of Williamsburg in a matter of minutes. That third show, April 10 at The Studio in Webster Hall, was one of the best I’ve ever seen. The band tore through most of its debut, Boys and Girls which was officially [...]

Alabama Shakes are on the cusp of releasing their rather good debut album, Boys & Girls . To celebrate this they have released upon the internet this, a fabulous live take of the brilliant Hold On , one of the strongest songs on the record. As you'd imagine it is Brittany Howard's powerful vocals that are front and centre here, showcasing one mightily powerful soul-rock croon. That she looks like a nursery school teacher makes it all the special. If you can, turn this one up loud and do a little jig. [...]
Alabama Shakes continue to light it up with their booming Rock N Roll sound and soaring vocals. Here are two songs 'Heavy Chevy' & 'You Ain't Alone' that were recorded live at Stubb's BBQ in Austin, Texas. The videos were Produced & Directed by Jeff Roe at Outlaw Laboratories. Alabama Shakes debut album Boys & Girls will be released on April 10th, via ATO Recordings - be sure to mark your calendars. Alabama Shakes - "Heavy Chevy" from Outlaw Laboratories on [...]
Tweet vaso link Recorded in the coat check closet of the Mercury Lounge, this is Alabama Shakes performing "Boys & Girls," which is the title track from their upcoming album. All the buzz surrounding the band is not without merit; they've been on a hell of a press run the past few weeks, and every time I've heard them they seem to be better than the previous time. Their performance on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic was mind blowing. Boys & Girls is [...]
Alabama Shakes stopped by Conan O'Brien last night to perform their hit song 'Hold On' and also offered a bonus song 'I Ain't The Same' (Web Only). Alabama Shakes’ debut album, Boys & Girls , hits stores April 10th, and is setting itself up as a 20125 can't miss album.
When MOKB started yabberin' and then MOKB Presents booked and announced Alabama Shakes in Indianapolis this past Fall, there was some head-scratching. Who was this band, and why was there such a buzz around town surrounding them? Basically, everyone wanted to know what the fuss was all about?! Well, the Shakes showed up and showed us all. Brittany and crew brought the sold-out house down. The music world, for the most part , has [...]
In a fantastic turn of events, Conan O'Brien made the fantastic choice of booking Alabama Shakes for last night's episode of Conan . The Alabama outfit took to the stage to perform their hit "Hold On," which will be included on the band's upcoming debut album Boys & Girls and is available to watch above courtesy of The Audio Perv . To make things even better, Team Coco provided an internet exclusive clip of the band performing "I Ain't The Same," which you can watch after the jump. [...]
[MUSIC VIDEO] Alabama Shakes - You Ain’t Alone Listening to Britney Howard sing is one thing watching her perform is a whole other. It will give you chills, even possibly bring you to tears. If you watch this and you feel nothing you may actually be a robot. I can’t believe I managed to miss them during CMJ and they just sold out Mercury Lounge so I’m gonna have to finagle my way in to those tickets somehow. Listen to their full EP below and then buy it because it’s $4 and fucking amazing! [...]
