Despite their iconic status, Depeche Mode 's five founding members haven't worked together as a unit since 1981. Come this June, however, all that changes with the release of Remixes 2: 81-11 , a 37-track collection that also features contributions from Dan the Automator, UNKLE, M83, and more (via the band's official site ). As the title suggests, the collection follows a similar blueprint to its predecessor, 20042s Remixes 81-04, and features reworkings of material spanning 1981's Speak & Spell through 2009's Sounds of the Universe [...]
Famed London indie label Mute will be hosting 2 days (13-14 May) of the annual Short Circuit Electronic Music Festival at London's Roundhouse this year. The first round of performers have been announced, and this event is shaping up to be a memorable one in 2011. On Friday (13th of May), there will be rare UK performances by Recoil (ex- Depeche Mode keyboardist Alan Wilder's current experimental/pop project), Nitzer Ebb , noted German electronic music pioneers like Thomas Fehlmann and Thomas [...]

It took long enough! EBM gods Nitzer Ebb are finally bringing the Industrial Complex to our shores next week. It's a shame that it's taken almost a year for the record to get here but for those of you who saw the band during last year's tour and picked up the tour edition of the record, we know that it shows the band's creative juices have definitely not waned in the least. As a bonus, the US edition of Industrial Complex comes jam-packed with yet another bonus track aside from Traveling called [...]

After Alan Wilder left Depeche Mode in 1995, he's been busy with his own project, Recoil. I remember buying the first Recoil album... it was two vinyl sides of loops and samples that I recognized from Depeche Mode records... I thought it was a treasure because I could hear the sounds that were often buried in the mixes of some of my favorite songs.

Sorry to report, but the recent union between Depeche Mode founders Martin Gore and Vince Clarke isn't for a new Depeche Mode LP, an extended tour, or even new tracks for a greatest hits release. However, as Confucius once uttered: "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." And the duo have taken the first step to what may be a fruitful 2011. On August 27th, Clark shared via Twitter that he and Gore had begone work on the track "Zaat". According to our friends at Slicing Up Eyeballs , [...]
Former Depeche Mode keyboard player Alan Wilder made headlines recently when he joined his former bandmates at the Royal Albert Hall this past February. But for those who thought it might be a sign of things to come, you may want to think again. Wilder has instead chosen to put any potential Depeche Mode reunions on hold in favor of more touring behind his own musical project, Recoil . This fall, the artist will be bringing his unique brand of electronica to both North and South America. Behind his recently released compilation [...]

It would take a cold heart not to be warmed by the sight of Alan Wilder taking the stage to play piano for his old band earlier this year at the Teenage Cancer Trust gigs. For many, Wilder was an integral part of Depeche Mode, as important as Gahan's voice and presence, for Gore's songs and nipples, and Fletch for his, ahhh, well, I'll get back to you on that one. Everyone likes a good reconciliation, allowing one to take stock of what has gone before and to look to what the future brings. And Wilder seems to be doing [...]

Since Depeche Mode's formation in 1980, lead singer Dave Gahan provided baritone vocals and guitarist Martin Gore composed the vast majority of the group's lyrics. But the true "musician" of the group (after Vince Clarke left to form Yazoo in '81) was undeniably keyboardist/drummer Alan Wilder . As Wilder helped Depeche Mode reach world-wide fame as the musical architect on Black Celebration , Music For the Masses , Violator , and Songs of Faith and Devotion , he developed Recoil as an outlet for his experimental, less pop-oriented compositions. He would [...]

After a somewhat acrimoniously worded letter of departure some 14 years ago, Alan Wilder has returned to Depeche Mode for a one-off show at London's Royal Albert Hall benefiting the Teenage Cancer Trust . The keyboardist and occasional drummer (and probably the most natural musician of the group) took to the stage to play piano on the Martin Gore-penned classic "Somebody." Wilder told NME that singer Dave Gahan reached out to him and assured him that the entire band was welcoming of the idea. A fan captured the reunion on his phone, so the quality [...]

Last night Depeche Mode performed a one off show at London's Royal Albert Hall in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust and come encore they were joined on stage by the one and only Alan Wider. This the first time he has joined his ex-bandmates since leaving the band in June 1995, and forming Recoil . These couple of poor quality videos of the performance of 'Somebody' can be your solace for not being there! [...]
On June 1st, 1995, after serving as the group's keyboardist for over 13 years, Alan Wilder left Depeche Mode . On February 17th, 2010, after doing his own thing for over 15 years, Alan Wilder reunited with his former bandmates - at least for one night - at London's Royal Albert Hall. Per Slicing Up Eyeballs , Wilder joined Depeche Mode for a performance of "Somebody" during the band's set at the Teenage Cancer Trust charity concert last night. Explaining the basis for the reunion in a newly posted blog entry [...]

Since leaving Depeche Mode in 1995, Alan Wilder has devoted his full attention to the solo project Recoil. And as the English native recently announced on the project's website , come this Spring, Wilder will celebrate the life and times of Recoil with a greatest hits album and a tour of both the U.S. and Europe. The compilation, appropriately titled Selected , will consist of Wilder's "personal favourites, remastered and edited together into what I consider a cohesive and total listening experience." It will be available as both single CD and double CD versions, with the [...]
