Voytas, who started out as the guitarist in the live bands of Gonjasufi and Flying Lotus, crafts a brand of music that references everything from '70s FM pop to early '90s rap. Land Lovers have notions on being a pop band. They certainly play melodic enough songs with snappy words and some foot-tapping beats. They come from the tail-end of 2008, where they are about to release debut lo-fi homespun album Romance Romance. They have arrived here in 2011 with another, glossier album, Confidants, some way towards completion. They remind some folk of XTC, or Television, or Elvis Costello & the Attractions. Read more »

Despite being accused as anti-human, repetitive, soulless, whatever, electronic music attracts the more devoted of idealists - the vinyl purist, the underground hero, the anonymous producer, etc. For Mux Mool, known to the government as Brian Lindgren, all his music connects to a certain outlook on life - basically, that the pre-established trajectory for adult life is being completely reimagined. He explains the concept behind his new album, Planet High School, this way: "Today, young Americans have very little to look forward to except endless war, endless debt, no Social Security, and [the fact that] none of us can live [...]

Acclaimed modernist pop band Islands will release their new album A Sleep & A Forgetting this February 14th via Anti-Records. While the record continues the band's penchant for crafting adventuresome and infectious state of the art pop music, this time band leader Nick Thorburn has infused the songs with a personal introspection that gives the record a new and powerful emotional resonance. Do you know those songs that draw you in from the first succession of chords? Dear Christie's "Never Enough" is a little something like that. These Ohio natives know how to work catchy hooks and soaring choruses to their full potential, creating a jam that's as power-packed in sound as it is lighthearted. It also plays on themes we all may have dabbled in -- love and perfection. "It talks about how someone can be in love and can never satisfy their significant other. You can try so hard to be perfect, yet, it's never enough," says the band. We [...]

Check out the stream of Tennis sophomore album, Young & Old below. We've spinned this a couple of times this morning and the Patrick Carney produced album might give their debut, Cape Dory a run for it's money.

"I just want to be myself, you know?" says Justin Nozuka. The briefest of nervous laughter, and a wry grin, say what he can't say for himself: There is such a thing as too much introspection, even for a guy who's made his mark by being candid and reflective. That irony is informed by the old soul behind 22-year-old Nozuka's fresh-faced countenance, and the duality is striking. New York-born, Canadian bred Nozuka is young enough to have interview jitters, but sufficiently wise to recognize when he stands to sound, well, full of it. So he's ever vigilant, lest his character [...]

Rack&Ruin are a powerpop rock & roll band from Sydney, Australia. Initially formed in London in 2007, brothers Levi and Aaron Kennedy played a swag of shows in London's most famous musical boozers. Returning to Australia in 2008, an exhaustive search began for like minded musicians to complete the band. The addition of long time amigo Jordan Petersen of The Alohas and percussion whiz kid Jimmy Heydon, meant the band started dealing a string of aurally explosive aces two years after the search began. Since striking out on her own, Frankie Rose has sounded like a woman on a quest. The onetime member of Dum Dum Girls and Vivian Girls' self-titled 2010 debut (made with her touring band, the Outs), found the former queen of Brooklyn lo-fi making sense of her more recent, reverb-swaddled, C86-inspired past. And on February 21, she'll release Interstellar, a full-length odyssey wherein Rose turns back the dial, ditches the Rat pedal, and dives headlong into the sort of celestial, synth-lined pop that's come to define much of 4AD's early years. It's streaming below in its entirety — we suggest [...]

This week's album streams come in the form of Frankie Rose's "Interstellar" and Air's "Le Voyage Dans La Lune." After a couple of spins of "Interstellar" (listen here ), I can say that the album has caught my attention of the young year unlike any other. The ebb and flow of the release is the perfect tempo that perfectly captures the true essence of the vocals from Miss Frankie Rose. You can pick up "Interstellar" on 2/21 on via Slumberland . Air has contributed the music [...]
