The Guardian's Lost In Showbiz returns to the flop of Alex James' cheese festival , which has gone bankrupt. And guess who's left out of pocket? Erm, the local school. Marina Hyde explains: But perhaps our greatest sympathy should be reserved for the local school, Kingham primary. The school organises its own annual music festival, and was asked to use its contacts to book performers for the Friday night at Harvest. It duly provided seven bands. (How quaint that the acts at Alex James's festival were being provided by the local primary. Does he not [...]
On first exposure to Yoofs , you're transported to the windswept West Coast of those frayed, untied states of America thus that in reality they're from the fringes of Bournemouth, while initially a touch dumbfounding, only adds greater gusto to the squally breath of weed/seaweed-perfumed air they exude. Info comes at a premium, although they once operated under the moniker AC SLATA before getting pestered by 'some DJ' . Musically they're a far caterwaul from 'Big Brooklyn Bass', shoddy pastiche electro, and all that jazz, and they're quite wonderful: Sidewalk fizzes like a can of condensed reverb spacked [...]
ANBAD is off to the UK's best festival, er... Bestival, this weekend - and here's another new-band preview... Hold it right there, bub. There's something important to relay to you before we get started. Remember Blur ? Remember when you wore your button-collared Ben Sherman shirt, sipping lager without irony, singing tunlessly along to Country House ? Remember how you thought, "Well, these bouncy basslines are just lovely , but what the bassist needs to do is produces a range of novelty cheeses?" Well, sigh no more, [...]
Blur Bassist Alex James Presents HARVEST: Music and Culinary Festival 2011 to Take Place on his Farm in Kingham, UK 'Harvest', the festival with a bite, has been given the green light to go ahead this year as it confirms its event license has been granted. This exciting news couldn't come at a better time as HARVEST prepares for its first year at the Kingham farm of Alex James , bassist of legendary Brit-pop band Blur , with a bumper line-up of [...]
Back in 2009, Harvest Festival began at Jimmy's Farm in Ipswich - the Jimmy in question being TV presenter and famous foodie Jimmy Doherty. The idea behind the festival is to combine great music with tantalising edible treats in a friendly, family environment, and when I attended back in 2009, it did all this incredibly well. This year sees the festival expand its scope with a second Harvest Festival opening on Alex James (of Blur fame)'s farm near Oxfordshire. Also offering a perfect combination of food and music, it's difficult to imagine a better way to [...]
Blur bassist turned foodie, Alex James, has been given an Honorary Doctorate of Arts from Bournemouth University . James, who grew up in Bournemouth, accepted the honor with a speech that opened thusly: "I would just like to say a few words to you about cheese." He went on to express his love of cheese, advising, "If you find something you love just go after it with all guns blazing." He went on to stress the importance of higher education, particularly in the arts because, well, you can meet your future bandmates there.
Filed under: News Plenty of musicians have honorary doctorates, but few have shared the non-music interests of Blur bassist Alex James . After playing on Britpop classics like 'Parklife' and 'Song 2,' James now lives on a farm in Oxfordshire where he has taken up cheese-making. Now he's been honored with a Doctorate degree from Bournemouth University . "Follow your heart is the thing, whenever you find anything that you love, even if people think it's ridiculous," [...]

"So meditate on what we've all become on a cold day in springtime Civil War is what we were all born into when you left and rising?" Say what you will about 2003's Think Tank but as far as I'm concerned, it was not close being the aural debacle most people claim it to be. While it's true that most of the spark that made Blur the pre-eminent 90s singles band may have faded a bit due to Graham Coxon's bail-out, save for the hauntingly [...]

You probably think this song is about you: Alex James
There are, amongst those who have drunk heavily, or taken drugs to excess, two sorts of people. Those who hear of the death of Amy Winehouse and think "there, but for the grace of God", and those who hear of the death of Amy Winehouse and think "quick, get me my publicist". To be fair, Alex James probably thought he was bringing special insight. He wasn't, though, he was just trying to push himself to the heart of the story. Oh, and he was writing for The Sun , as well: James wrote in the [...]

Bookmarks - Internet stuff: Louise Wener
Hopefully, the next edition of Louise Wener's Different For Girls can drop the off-putting thumbs-up on the cover from Fearne Cotton now that Jude Rogers has reviewed it for the New Statesman : Wener also dismantles the myth that the likes of Blur were intelligent pop revolutionaries. She describes their rudeness, their ruthless ambition and their "easy, bohemian, moneyed odour". And then there are the groupies. Wener leaves nothing out. The bassist Alex James tells a young woman, "You're ugly, but I'm going to fuck you anyway," while their tour manager is despatched to select [...]

VM sange: Fat Les – Vindaloo
