Day 2 of ACL rolls on with a bit of rain and covers galore.

Alison Krauss and Union Station w/ Jerry Douglas + Dawes @ Wolf Trap Foundation For Performing Arts - August 7 Words and Photos : Grace Beehler While most people clear out of major metropolitan areas during August, heading to large bodies of water to escape the brutal heat and humidity, some of those left behind showed up to Wolf Trap to see Alison Krauss and Union Station and Dawes. The sold-out show took place at the stunning architectural masterpiece that is Wolf Trap Foundation for Performing Arts, just outside Washington, D.C., on [...]

Alison Krauss and Union Station are on a tour across the US. Last Thursday, they played the Wang Theatre in Boston. Our photographer Jennifer Murtha ( FromThePhotoPit.com ) was there to get some cool shots of the group. Check them out inside.
[Birthday greetings today to Jason Mraz and KT Tunstall. Now for the daily dose ...] Top picks on the first of many busy Thursdays the rest of the summer: ► One national magazine calls Will Sheff "Dylan for the Facebook generation." Don't know about that, but his band Okkervil River has made another fine album, "I Am Very Far," and the band hits the Wiltern tonight, with Titus Andronicus and NewVillager opening. ► Alison Krauss & Union Station [...]

By Jon Stone I’ve been thinking about late-night sets all day. Bonnaroo is famous for them, but seriously, I don’t see how people manage. Like tonight, there’s some really cool stuff going on at, like, two and three in the morning. I’m convinced that only the very young, the completely wasted, and those who can sleep somewhere with air conditioning stay out all night. Which is really too bad. I would have loved to see Ratatat last night but they went on at three. On the other hand, Weezy had us all up that late anyway. [...]

This is from their newest album, Paper Airplane, released on Rounder Records (link to the right) in April. It is a cover of a Richard Thompson song.
Alison Krauss might have the most aesthetically beautiful voice in popular music. I don't think that's hyperbole. This fact may be part of the reason why the latest album with her band Union Station, Paper Airplane , debuted at the top of the charts (#1 on Bluegrass Albums and Country Albums, #3 on the Billboard Top 200). All the laurels are understandable, as this is a fine album with well-crafted songs and the tight, polished instrumental work of Union Station. Krauss loves to sing with an intimate, whispering tone, like country music pillow talk, and that sensuality [...]
A quick glance at Alison Krauss' resume and what immediately pops out is the astonishing number of Grammys that she has amassed in her career - 27 in total - making her the most awarded female artist, most awarded singer, and tied for the second most awarded artist overall in Grammy history. The bluegrass and country musician has been putting out albums with Union Station since 1987, and has had her hand in a number of the genre's most important and influential releases of the last 20+ years including the soundtrack for O Brother, Where [...]
Alison Krauss and Union Station have finally -- finally -- added the Midland show to their website. Seriously, guys. I heard you were coming to Kansas City, Missouri, about, oh, three weeks ago,... Continue reading "What's Poppin' Off: Alison Krauss and Union Station" >
Paper Airplane features ample ghostly romance and impeccable melodic arrangements, but it doesn't challenge the formula. The cover imagery of Paper Airplane, Alison Krauss' first album with longtime collaborators Union Station since 2004, is a calculated visual abstract of the nature of this musical partnership. Surrounded by the earnest gentlemen of her band in their minimal 19th century attire, Krauss is glamorous and ethereal. She seems poised on the cusp of floating gently away from their sepia company and the spartan field tent they occupy. The evident wind-machine manipulating her golden...
Alison Krauss and Union Station have a marvellous chemistry as a band - and it's as impressive as ever on Paper Airplane, their first album together since 2004. Guitarist Dan Tyminski shares the lead vocals, singing three songs (Krauss said she had wanted it originally to be four), Ron Block’s banjo is as sweet as ever and Barry Bales’ bass holds things together nicely. Jerry Douglas’ Dobro is a thing of beauty and he excels on the lovely first title track Paper Airplane, written by the talented Robert Lee Castleman, and on the opening to Sinking [...]

Alison Krauss & Union Station will release their new album Paper Airplane on Tuesday. It's their first new release as a unit since 2004's Lonely Runs Both Ways . I've been working on a review of the album for Country Standard Time that should be posted soon. In the meantime... here is the official music video from the album's title track along with a behind the scenes video about the making of the album.
Filed under: Video of the Day Artist: Alison Krauss and Union Station Video: 'Paper Airplane' Highlight: Shot in Tennessee earlier this year, this video has a vintage element beyond sepia.

We love Alison Krauss' voice. "Paper Airplanes" is beautiful. Ignore the stale adult contemporary production and just feel that voice. Alison Krauss & Union Station - Paper Airplane Alison Krauss & Union Station: ( Official ) Rating: 8.0
After the enormous success of Raising Sand , the Grammy-winning roots music album with Robert Plant and producer T-Bone Burnett, Alison Krauss has returned to her own roots with Paper Airplane , the first album with her long running band Union Station since 2004's Lonely Runs Both Ways . It's not surprising that the album's overall theme is one of what she calls "a trial -- a trying time that has to end". Success -- with both Raising Sand and her country hit "Whiskey Lullaby" with Brad Paisley -- inevitably breeds [...]
MUISC NEWS - Alison Krauss and Union Station have released the first video (see below) from upcoming Paper Airplane album (out via Rounder on April 12, 2011). The video for the title track was shot in Tennessee earlier this year. Paper Airplane is Alison Krauss and Union Station's first album since 2004's platinum-selling Grammy winning Lonely Runs Both Ways . It's also Alison's first release since her 2007 collaboration with Robert Plant, the amazing Raising Sand which took him 5 Grammys in 2009. [...]
