Filed under: News , I Fought the Law Erika Goldring/Getty Images Getting stabbed isn't something you'd expect to happen to you at a Gregg Allman concert. But unfortunately for rock fan Ronald Sixt Jr., his night seeing the rock legend ended with a knife wound to the face. During the Wednesday, Jan. 4, show at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium, Sixt had apparently bumped into one Carl Darren Brothers, a drunken concertgoer who became aggressive [...]

The first of 10 shows at the Beacon start Friday, March 9th and continue up until Sunday, March 25th. We at MetalSucks have dealt with the paradoxes involved with conducting a poll to determine great guitar players (read our 25 Best Modern Metal Guitarists poll here)! So we get that in a unweighted vote, the top-ranked axemen may just represent those liked by the largest number of voters; i.e. a dude who we agree is [...]
The Allman Brothers Band haven't played many shows in 2011, but apparently the group aims to make the most of the six shows they have in front of them. On Friday, at the first of two performances at Philadelphia's Tower Theater, the Allmans will perform Live at Fillmore East in its entirety according to Warren Haynes, who broke the news to WMMR DJ Pierre Robert. A few hours later Gregg Allman told Boston DJ Carter Allen that the band didn't want New England fans to feel left out so the [...]
Last year over 7,000 people came out to Bear Creek and we couldn't be happier to cover such a special festival this weekend. The Spirit of the Suwannee Park has become a second home to music lovers, hosting festivals ranging from the Allman Brothers' Wanee Fest to more intimate events like Springfest and Magnolia Fest. This year definitely proves to [...]

Glimpses of country-rock and folk appear on Crooks' EP, Lonesome, Rowdy and Restless. On the memorable "Downtown", a series of spaghetti-western horns pave a smooth road for the soaring vocals of Josh Mazour, whose nasally croon is the driving force behind the quartet's infectiously twangy down-south sound. Somewhat surprisingly, the acoustic progressions [...]
Twangy rock with hints of country and alternative was prominent on Girls' excellent Broken Dreams Club EP. The sound recalled the likes of Ryan Adams and Matthew Sweet while remaining true to Girls' eclectic pop approach. They explore new territory within this particular vision on their second full-length, Father, Son, Holy Ghost.

While I was awaiting Hurricane Irene's arrival on Saturday I was hipped to a number of fantastic videos featuring members of the Allman Brothers Band and their various projects by fellow NYC-Freak Jarrett Grushka. These clips were uploaded by Mule Army leader Rich Granaas and include rare footage of the one-guitar ABB lineup from 1973 , the trio days of Gov't Mule and four hours and 20 minutes (heady) worth of the legendary One For Woody concert from 2000. [...]
We take a look at several up-and-coming acts from this year's Outside Lands that may have been overshadowed by headliners like Arcade Fire and Phish. Their reputations for infectious and enthusiastic live performances is what earned them their time on stage, and also the reason for their surges in exposure after the festival ended less than two weeks ago. Look inside for audio clips.

The Allman Brothers Band have a long illustrious history of performances at the Beacon Theatre that includes literally hundreds of sit-ins. That tradition continued tonight when the pioneering southern rockers welcomed a cavalcade of guests to join them at various points of their Tune In To Hep C Benefit Concert at the venue on Manhattan's Upper West Side including Furthur/Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh, vocalist Natalie Cole and legendary musical duo David Crosby and Graham Nash. This evening's show, which was a benefit concert to help [...]

This week's NYC -area concert calendar is bumpin'! The Allmans Brothers are back at the Beacon, Elvis Costello 's at the Count Basie Theatre, They Might Be Giants play the Williamsburg Waterfront, we've got two shows by reunited 90s alt-rock titans (Bush and STP), and this oddball lineup of Weezer , The Flaming Lips and Yeasayer are all at Jones Beach. But, as usual, it's the smaller club shows - and, in this case, the boat cruises - that interest me most. For something a bit more rock-based [...]
