I've never figured out why there seemed to be a mainstream backlash against Quiet Riot. When Quiet Riot last came though New York (they played the St. George Theatre in Staten Island in 2006), I asked some of my friends who have mainstream musical tastes (i.e. Nickelback and Poison fans) if they wanted to go with me to the show and they gave me looks like I asked them if they wanted to see (i.e.) The Wiggles open for Miley Cyrus. My friends missed a fabulous show – Rehab (which the band was touring behind at [...]
In case you missed the news last week, there's about zero chance that we'll see another All Points West music festival. Similarly, it doesn't look like AEG will revive its All Points West festival at Liberty State Park in Jersey City, N.J. "We're probably going to kill it," says Phillips of APW, "mostly because the site. While sometimes it feels like the first half of year is dedicated to festival announcements, it's looking like we won't have to do much more reporting on the much maligned All Points West. According to the New York Times, APW may be heading to the great big festie graveyard in the sky. The AEG Live-booked fest, which had made its home at Liberty State Park in Jersey City, NJ the last two summers and had featured the likes of Radiohead, Jay Z, Jack Johnson and Ernie Anastasio, is [...]
In truth, the fate of Liberty State Park's two year old All Points West festival has been in doubt ever since the first drop of rain fell on Fleet Foxes sometime on Friday afternoon, early on da... Continue reading "Farewell, All Points West?" >

Lineup announcements for the 2010's Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and Bumbershoot festivals have come and gone, but we've only got radio silence from the All Points West camp. The three-day fest in Liberty State Park, New Jersey, was founded two years ago by AEG Live, promoters of the California-based Coachella in an attempt to nail down the elusive New York City festival market. Unfortunately, when you have an outdoor concert featuring only a handful of the gajillion amazing artists who play in New York every year and then add a sl0w-moving ferry, New Jersey, and New Jersey's [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News Don't count on a third annual All Points West festival this summer. While the 2009 event, which counted Jay-Z , Tool and Coldplay as headliners, seemed like a success despite the heavy rains, executives at AEG Live have told the New York Times that they still haven't decided on whether the event will return to New Jersey's Liberty State Park in Jersey City. "There is no question that our biggest challenge is finding [...]
Per report from the New York Times , it looks like the All Points West Festival may not happen this year. Another one bites the dust? And just when I got into the neighborhood too. Damn, meng! New York Times have just put out an article on All Points West not so certain future. Excerpt below. Full article here . It may be only February, but for the concert industry the summer is already here, with artists completing their tour schedules and festivals releasing their lineups. Bonnaroo , in Tennessee in June, has announced most of its 100-plus acts, and blogs have been buzzing for weeks about who is expected for Lollapalooza in Chicago in August. One name, however, has been conspicuously absent from the [...]

10. Phoenix + Passion Pit @ Central Park Summerstage (Sept. 26th) ; Prior to this year and these ears hearing the inescapable "1901" we hadn't really ever paid attention to Phoenix and we're pretty sure most Americans would echo that sentiment. But this year the band was everywhere! On TV, on the radio, and most wonderfully in cities around the U.S., quite often with the blowing up Boston band Passion Pit. For two nights in September the two bands dominated the stage in Central Park, ushering in the early autumn days with a perfect set mixing their upbeat, catchy [...]

Neko Case at All Points West (08/01/09) Photos : G! Alt-country chanteuse Neko Case closed out the schedule on the second stage here at All Points West with a mellow, melodic set of ballads (one, "That Teenage Feeling," was about her "first imaginary boyfriend") and gentle rockers. Set highlights included swaying renditions of "Hold On, Hold On" and the title track from her most recent album, "Middle Cyclone." ... As Case closed her set and the skies grew dark, the squishy grounds [...]

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of the Dead at All Points West (08/01/09) Photos : G! -Few bands have been through the hot'n'cold internet hype machine wringer quite like …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead . But if weathering major label headaches, hipster backlash and line-up changes has taken a toll on the group, you wouldn't know it from watching their early afternoon onslaught. Showing a shocking amount of energy for a 2 o' clock performance, Trail tore [...]

Cage The Elephant at All Points West (08/01/09) Photos : G! I wasn't really familiar with the Bowling Kentucky's Cage The Elephant before All Points West , but I liked what I heard on MySpace enough to send Greg out to snap some photos on Saturday. Apparently the folks from Dave Letterman liked what they heard too, because the band was invited to make their network television on The Late Show just a couple of days before the festival. [...]

Day three we were back to All Points Wet, with lightning warnings so bad they didn't let people in until four. That meant Steel Train, Kitty Daisy and Lewis and my personal faves the Gaslight Anthem were all cut. Disappointing for many, but the remaining sets made up for it. I should note that I've already written a review in a best/worst format of day three that you can read over at SPIN.com . The first act to get going once the gates were opened was PT Walkley [...]
