Glowsticks! Akai-samplers! Housebroeken! Slechte piano's! Breakdance!

For no particular reason, other than it's my favourite track of theirs, Altern-82s Full On Mask Hysteria album from 1992 mixed down into a single track. The album was re-issued in 2008 but without this track. More on Altern-8 here . Bleeptastic piece of raving. Altern-8 - Full On Megamix Full On Mask Hysteria Buy

Altern-8 are another production duo that we could fill up a year's worth of classics posts about, today however we're focusing on "Shame", the piano rave monster featuring Evelyn "Champagne" King from 1992. Wasting no time, the track intros with the huge piano line and vocal hook before heading into rave territory with a huge synth hook and a 303 line to die for. An absolute classic and when the track breaks down for the second time it's sure to send a shiver up even the coldest of spines. [...]

We had Joey Beltram's remix of Infiltrate on Wednesday, so here's two more mixes of the same track, from 1991. Altern-8 - Infiltrate 202 (The Altern-8 VS Astrix and Space Remix) Altern-8 - Infiltrate 202 (Altern-8 VS Space Mix) Buy

Sparked inside the social nests of Twitter, a new JFK edit rises to the scene this week and it's for Holland's sprouting producer Fuser . An Altern 8 smashing of Frequency with seductive dutch house sounds tripping on itself and stumbling around a k-hole. Fall into the breakdown where your stranded with nothing but slow hardstyle kicks and bird like leads. It's dark and lonely but don't fret; it all wears off and you go back to doing what you do best, kicking and screaming. Download: [...]

Another remix from Simon Harris. This time an old rave classic from Altern8. Watch your bass bins. Good job this one. Listen or download. Last time, he remixed 808 State's In Yer Face ( here ). And I grumbled about the Alatair Cooke sample being moved and re-recorded. Simon commented " I moved the intro speech further on in the track to give it a more DJ friendly intro, time for the DJ to get the tune mixed and ready to drop. I hunted high and low for the Alistair Cooke sample, its from his Letters from [...]

Ahead of his performance at Bloc Weekend next month Mark Archer, one half of early 19902s British rave duo Altern-8 [who had top ten hits with Activ 8 and Evapor 8] took time out to chat to WANARB and Class of 808 about their legendary performance at Shelleys Carpark, Carl Craig and the weirdest thing he's ever seen happen in a club. WANARB: Where are you right now? Mark: Sat on my girlfriends sofa listening to her 3 year old talk fishwack to himself. WANARB: 15 [...]

A friend of mine (cheers to Pavarotti for the find) recently showed me this track and it simply blew me away. I had the pleasure of playing it out yesterday, and boy did it do the trick. Faceman & High Rankin decided to take their listeners to another dimension with Public Service Announcement. The chopped vocals are a bit lackluster and get quite annoying as the track progresses but the breakdown and main loop completely over-compensate for that. Play this track kiddies, you'll be happy you did. Buy the 320 here . [...]

In which D writes on raves and you get something ravey by Altern 8. It's almost as if there's some thought behind the blog. Oct 92: "I was pleased to hear you went to see the shamen at the all-night affair ('C'mon everybody, you put your left foot in, your left foot out...') and it sounds as if your retirement to the ambient room was a wise decision in the circumstances. I do know, from my own experience, that finding a decent rave where there are no dozens of pre-pubescent youths flailing thweir arms, legs and other [...]

Mark Archer and Chris Peat became rave legends in the early 902s as Altern 8 but before donning the masks and boiler suits, they worked together as Nexus 21 . Their first work appeared on "The Rhythm of Life" album on Blue Chip before signing to Network (who would also later release Altern 82s material) and releasing the "Progressive Logic EP" in 1990. Lead track "Self Hypnosis (Mr Whippy remix)" was a brilliantly bleepy slice of house and showcased the duo as a talent to watch. It's [...]

For some time we at the Friends by Far had in mind to create a table talking about the designs of some of our friends, spreading the sound of talz atravez mixtapes and everything, and we had the bright [...]
Photo by Caesar Sebastian The world renowned electronic supergroup known as Soulwax , performed live at this years' Hard Summer . The general consensus for the night seems to believe that they were the stars of the show. Unfortunately, their set was cut short due to scheduling issues and delays, and they were only allotted 43 minutes to jam out. Fortunately, someone much cooler than me managed to record the entire set and with superb audio quality to boot. Without further ado, I present to you Soulwax, in their [...]
Unfortunately this cuts out before the end and is pretty terrible quality. But what it lacks in quality it more than makes up for in atmosphere. Are you READYYYYYY?!!! Altern-8 - Live PA at Amnesia House

Suicide Sundaes – stop your grinnin' and drop your linen. Every Sunday electblake of Earmilk will bring you the weeks dirty servings, and some old favorites through a throwdown-throwback to simpler times. A time when bangers were big, remixes were bigger, the bassline bled, and we didn't care about anything as long as came in kicking and left screaming. To hell with sketchy sunday, we want to shove another dragon down the hole. So, I'm sure you've noticed the DJ Duo "super" groups that have been popping up, now there is another - [...]
Blow- "The Cutter" Another one from 1991- 'scuse the crackles, but this one got played a lot ! Rolling breaks and loads of bass, but definitely not a one trick pony. It's got a number of sections and progressions, and a depth that makes it age pretty gracefully- like some old ravers i know... buy it from discogs :: [...]
