Demonic Resurrection Cancels UK Tour, Workshop Disbands

Mumbai death metal act Demonic Resurrection announced the cancellation of their UK tour recently via the band's Facebook page . As reported previously , the band had lined up five shows in England this month, including a slot at the Sonisphere festival this past Sunday. Dreams and darkness united for the Mumbai metal band as UK visa authorities unleashed an unrelenting surge of vengeance upon them by failing to issue travel documents in time for the trip. DR briefly considered making the remainder of their dates even after missing Sonisphere, but when visas had still not arrived on [...]

Live: The Lightyears Explode, Workshop @ JRM Grounds, Mumbai

Live: The Lightyears Explode, Workshop @ JRM Grounds, Mumbai The Lightyears Explode and Workshop performed at NMIMS college's Mayhem festival on Friday, Feb 11 at JRM Grounds, Mumbai. We were there. You've gotta love college festivals. The one time ordinary, everyday college kids get to wield walkie-talkies, sport carefully designed t-shirts that say "SECURITY" and take their event way too seriously always makes for a kvlt experience. Regardless of whether there is an audience of 50 or 5,000. The former being the case on this Friday night, more on college fest kvlt-ness later. The Lightyears Explode If the [...]

Noiseware, Khiladi, Infernal Wrath Kick Off Bacardi NH7 Weekender

Noiseware, Khiladi, Infernal Wrath Kick Off Bacardi NH7 Weekender Local metal act Noiseware opened the Bacardi NH7 Weekender with the first set at the Bacardi Black Rock Arena. The Pune thrash act played a short, six-song set (including a cover of 'Smooth Criminal') before Mumbai alt-metal act Khiladi took the stage. The Bacardi Black Rock Arena featured an incredible stage setup (with some of the best live sounds we've heard all year) and a 100% kvlt bar area . Mumbai fusion metal act Infernal Wrath started the first semi-legit moshpit at the arena, one that only grew in size through the course [...]

Live: Forcefield, Khiladi, The Riot Peddlers, Bhayanak Maut @ B69, Mumbai

Live: Forcefield, Khiladi, The Riot Peddlers, Bhayanak Maut @ B69, Mumbai Forcefield, Khiladi, The Riot Peddlers and Bhayanak Maut played B69, Mumbai on Wednesday, Nov 11. We were there. B69 in Andheri could soon become a scene-defining venue. With an entrance that reeks of piss and character, the suburban gigpad has recently started hosting gigs on weekends and on Wednesday, Nov 11 hosted the first in a series of Kill The Weekday gigs (organised by ennui.BOMB ). The venue's excellent sound setup, the presence of airconditioning, cheap beer, a threatening moshpit and some efficient performances all round made for a pretty solid debut of the franchise. [...]

Editor's Week In Review: Oct 23-29

Arjun S Ravi takes a look back at the week in Indian music, tracking October 23-29. I feel terrible about missing The Great Indian Octoberfest in Bangalore. Our prolific lensman Prateek Biswas brought the festival to life in his vivid photo galleries (check out my favourite pic below) covering every day of the three-day festival ( Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 ). Featuring performances by, among others, Italian metal giants Lacuna Coil (who we interviewed at the fest, check out some great [...]

Katatonia - "Day and Then the Shade" Peaceville Records
IIT Student #1: Bro, what do we do about this year's Livewire headliner. IIT Student #2: Dunno yaar, it'll have to be better than Sumo wrestling though. IIT Student #1: True, true. Let's play about four hours straight of UT and then say the name of the first band that comes to our minds. <four hours later> IIT Student #1: Mmm Maggi. IIT Student #2: Exactly, Katatonia. Swedish alt metal giants Katatonia will headline the 2010 edition of IIT Bombay's annual cultural festival Mood Indigo's rock competition Livewire. The quintet from [...]

High on Fire - Death Is This Communion

High on Fire - Death Is This Communion With the release of their new album, High on Fire appears poised to become the next, but not necessarily new standard of mainstream heavy metal; a sort of post-Pantera return to the pre-Opeth age. Whatever its faults, they are preferable to the many sagging, shabby and vigor-less stand-ins on store shelves today. Though as many voices scoffed at as did praise 2005's Blessed Black Wings , that album and its successor represent a needed turn back toward a more accessible kind of metal that is unapologetic—and plainly—still has some balls. In this case, nine of them. It [...]
