It was a given, of course, that Alt-J's first-ever show in Vancouver would blow minds in the room - probably even the minds of the yappy ones blathering through the pristine, quieter moments. Their rise has been accelerated, their touring incessant, their 14-16 songs played one trillion times live in the past year, their shows, like tonight, selling out large rooms and theatres. Multiple North American tours under their belts already has honed the University of Leeds four-piece into the kind of note-perfect performers you'd expect. This is, after all, a bunch of talented chaps whose debut won [...]

2012 was a great year for the UK. Between hosting the Olympics and the Queen’s Jubilee, British music outdid itself and really shone through while all eyes were on our little island. Alt-J’s debut album An Awesome Wave is an example of the UK’s indie scene innovating and advancing, with ‘Breezeblocks’ being one of the biggest tracks of the year. Alt-J took the UK by storm last year by touring the festival circuit in the summer, including Reading/Leeds festival (Where I was lucky enough ...
Alt-J - Fitzpleasure (An Awesome Wave, 2012) Yanlış insanlarla yanlış şeyleri tartışmak, yanlış zamanlarda yanlış fimleri izlemek, yanlış havalarda yanlış şeyleri yemek, yanlış otobüse binip yanlış semtlere gitmek güzel (çorapların yeterince kalın olduğu sürece). Tipiden göz gözü görmezken vapura bindim. Bir an açılan gökte martılar kusursuz bir V şeklinde uçuyordu. Tam o anda Fitzpleasure’ın albümün en iyi şarkısı olduğuna karar verdim. Derinin hemen altındaki damarların morarıp belirginleştiği günlerdeyiz. Burun uçlarındaki yangınlara itfaiye dayanmıyor. Kulak içleri karanlık ve ürpertici. Kaburga altları diken diken. Camlarda yağmur izi. Öp beni keçiboynuzu pekmezi.
It's hard to pinpoint Alt-J exact sound with the band aggregating numerous familiar elements and churning them into delicious novel sound bytes. Armed with a mercurial live set and an album that seemingly peaks on every track Alt-J were one of 2012 best surprises. 'An Awesome Wave" is sprayed with guitar arpeggios, eerie pianos and contemporary beats blended together in cinematic fashion. The tracks crash [...]

There have been some amazing albums released this year, with Django Django finally releasing their creative and joyful self-titled debut, Cold Specks tugging at my heartstrings with A Graceful Expulsion , and Clock Opera cutting and splicing their way to quite the masterpiece with Ways To Forget , and Meursault stripping away their electronic sounds for Something for the Weekend . For me, however, my album of the year is Alt-J's An Awesome Wave . It's inventive, holding your attention through the twists and swirls of soothing indie [...]

When Alt-J stormed the scene this summer it seemed impossible to avoid the four alternatively hip British guys. The album began gathering heat in its birthplace of the U.K., but didn't hit the States until a few months after it's May street date. As this momentum grew slowly but surely, An Awesome Wave became the essential album in everyone's iTunes, everywhere. Initially, it seemed like the boys would be just another hip, indie, well-dressed band that would come and go in the ears of any fan in touch [...]

If they’re not the biggest breakthrough group of the year, Alt-J certainly deserve to be included in the debate. With their fantastically dreamy alt-pop, Alt-J blasted into the consciousness of the public, earning massive critical praise that culminated in them taking home the 2012 Mercury Prize. By combining incredibly complex songwriting with instrumentals that bridge a variety of genres ranging from folk to pop to alt rock, Alt-J has paved the way for more future success. One of the things that makes An Awesome Wave so special is the fact that it [...]

Some experimental pop and electro-funk sounds to brighten up your Monday. Last, but certainly not least, the global sounds of dance pop duo, The Very Best, and Brooklyn's experimental rock trio, Yeasayer. Enjoy. [...]
Our friend's at The Wild Honey Pie recently debuted the Beta version of their website and it's looking smooth. The redesign includes a focus on their unique live videos which they've dubbed Buzzsessions; stripped down live video performances. Artists captured thus far include Maps and Atlases , Indians , Kishi Bashi and more. Alt-J's version of "Tessellate" is a particular favorite and is about as pure a version of the broody tune that you are going to come across. The video of them recording the session at Electric Lady Studios is a [...]

Alt-J (∆)'s incredible first major release An Awesome Wave is making them one of the most talked about acts of 2012. Winning the Mercury Prize Award and just announcing a spring North American tour, it seems like all systems are go for this Leeds based quartet. Today, only a couple hours after their North American tour dates were released, alt-J unveiled a daunting remix of "Fitzpleasure" conjured up by LA DJ BetaTraxx. Changing tempos and overall feel of the song makes this remix stand out over other remixes of the song. The heavy use of reverb had me [...]
