For those of you that missed it, German artist Bartholomäus Traubeck is a genius. Why? Well, Traubeck has created a way to translate tree rings into music in a project appropriately titled "Years." These circular patterns inside tree trunks have long since been a way to learn about the life of a tree, which seems like a rather dry way of discovering the details on these significant organisms. The music in the video above was created by Bartholomäus Traubeck by slicing a tree in cross-section, sticking it on a turntable, and dropping a tone-arm with a PlayStation Eye Camera in the head, and processing its output through Ableton Live . It's perhaps the most mesmerizing thing I've heard in a long, long while. It's also the sound of a tree slice! [via Clusterflock ]

I can't tell everyone how excited I am about purchasing my Bon Iver ticket for the Chicago 12/9 date coming up. This has been a long time coming; I unfortunately missed the New York date this past summer.
