Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars It's been a little over a year since the release of their last album, but already The Strange Boys are returning with another album. Here we find the local Austin heroes doing their twangy R&B meets country on Be Brave . This time, however, the boys don't seem nearly as rambunctious, instead they've chosen to slow it all down, spending a lot more time with swinging numbers that might just have you wrapping your arms around your favorite [...]
Seems like it was only yesterday that I was cobbling together the TDoL best of 2008 . Yes, time flies when you're old and surly. And, yes, I know year-end lists are everywhere, cliché, overdone and a dime a dozen-but I do love them so. These lists are difficult to make, too. I mean who has time to really absorb a full record when you're being bombarded with hundreds of albums and mp3s? It was chore to make a list that exorcised both my discerning (wax-clogged) ear and my (beer-besotted) gut-the "I can see what this artist [...]

There's a lot of garage rock revival going on these days, and picking a band to lend an ear to can be tough. Sometimes, it can require the seriousness of taking out a mortgage, but ends up being more rewarding. So, once the chance comes up, set aside some time to talk to your local hipster and give a listen to Texas' the Strange Boys. Their latest LP is And Girls Club --clever, guys--and the best way to describe its sound is by using the following set of words: This LP is a raunchy interpretation of [...]
One of the Tripwire's favorite records of 2009 is The Strange Boys ' ...And Girls Club , so while we were stomping around Austin - their home town - it made sense to catch up with them for an interview. But a funny thing happened before anything "official" could go down; I caught Ryan Sambol and Matt Hammer just chilling before their Levi's®/FADER Fort performance . With flipcam in hand, I took that moment to speak to the guys for a few minutes and because I'm biased towards bands comprised of [...]
The Strange Boys And Girls Club In The Red Records Release Date: 03.17.09 With the time change and sunshine fast approaching and the prospect of long afternoons on the lawn running into late nights at the local dive becoming more feasible, The Strange Boys arrive just in time to offer up a nice little soundtrack to your inevitably hazy Spring. And Girls Club , the first full-length offering from the Dallas-born, Austin-honed foursome, is equal parts The Kinks , Dylan , The Yardbirds and a little flare of those [...]
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars Austin's very own The Strange Boys finally have an album for everyone to share with their friends, though we suggest doing so in a legal manner. After all the waiting, we finally get to see what these young gents have to offer us all; it's precisely what we all expected, and this is meant in an endearing fashion. One of the first things most listeners will come across is that the album sounds a bit muddy, as if the boys dragged these songs [...]

FT10: Austin Albums of 2009
We thought about this long and hard, thinking over our favorite releases from bands located in Austin over the last year. Blood was spilled, jabs were thrown, but overall, we feel like we got our hands around the best releases that we feel epitomized the Austin scene in 2009. Don't forget, we're particular to our tastes, so while you may disagree, we reserve the right to stand by these ten acts and their albums from 092. Follow the jump for full list. 10. Ideal [...]
The Strange Boys lose their power
I recently received an e-mail about a new Web site called Amsterdam Acoustics , basically a couple of music lovers who film bands performing unplugged in the streets of ... you guessed it, Amsterdam. The site's most recent performance comes from Austin's The Strange Boys , whose And Girls Club record has received accolades from TDoL here and there , and has likely already secured a position on the ol' 2009 Year-End List. You'll just have to wait and see. Strange Boys [...]

THE STRANGE BOYS: AAAAAAGH, LOOK OVER THERE, LOOK OVER THERE, AAAAAH!
Texas made them strange and Beerland made them men and now Austin's Strange Boys are one of the realest rock 'n' roll bands currently prowling the American interstate system. They play tonight at the Smell and tomorrow at the Echo and will eradicate years of listless go-nowhere-ism with only 25 minutes and access to electricity. This interview by Dan Collins.
