The local band the Cloak Ox had a ripping 2011. After all, they won last year's City Pages "Picked To Click" by a landslide as one of the most promising band's from our fair State. As any reader of G

As they prepare for their first recorded release since they revved up their new band, the Cloak Ox are in the midst of a freakin' onslaught of media blitz this week.
The time has come people. The kids from the Cloak Ox have been making a steady impact on the Twin Cities music scene since we first started losing our shit about them late last year. They've ta

There's a lot contained below the surface of Eskimo Snow and what's underneath is not entirely an uplifting affair. The album, which was released in late September on Anticon Records , is almost completely devoid of the hip-hop sheen that glossed both Elephant Eyelash and Alopecia and what is left settles with much more heft and weight. Much of the the humorous subtext is gone as well, though the wordplay left behind is no less clever. The album [...]
After releasing one of my favorite albums of the year, Eskimo Snow , a few weeks back, Oakland band Why? came to town Wednesday night to play what was one of the best shows I have seen this year at the Triple Rock Social Club.

Local homeboys Andrew Broder and Marc from Fog helped record on both Why? records 'Alopecia' and also the new record 'Eskimo Snow.' They were actually both cut at the same time @ Third Ear with Tom Herbers.' City Pages has a great interview with Yoni of Why? detailing the involvment of Fog and the recording process.. Pictured below, these dudes will be on the whole Why? tour. Dates and Mp3's below.. fog - "pneumonia (coldcut's uptight duck mix) (download) The original version of this song is probably one of my top 10 favorite songs of all time. What I love about this remix is that although it stays true to the original, it adds just the right amount of Coldcut awesomeness to make it really worth a listen. myspace buy

New Prince video released, Motion City Soundtrack to record new album & Chairlift hit the Current.

University of Minnesota's Spring Jam is going on all weekend, and besides being the first major celebration of drinking around campus for the spring, the event usually is the first major free music event in the city, as well. Unofficially, the festivities kick off tomorrow when NYC's acoustic experimentalists in Mountains descend into the Whole at U of M's Coffman Union for a free gig with Minneapolis-based ambient/experimental musician Andrew Broder of Fog and Madison ambient post-rockers in Frail By Design (featuring bass skills from good friend and fellow U student Dan Jin).
