Photo by Andrew Loog Oldham's friend. Andrew Loog Oldham and Geoffrey Dicker If you don't know who Andrew Loog Oldham is, we cannot be friends anymore. But whether or not you know his name, you surely know the magic he helped create. Andrew Loog Oldham produced and managed the Rolling Stones from 1963 to 1967 and helped orchestrate the greatness (and salaciousness) that the world has come to love about one of the best bands that has ever played. Fun fact: one of the many things [...]
Publishing these Stupefied playlists every week just keeps getting better and better. This week, in honor of my interview with him published at Perfect Sound Forever last week, I'm particularly proud to present a playlist from Andrew Loog Oldham . Its not often that you can say an iconic rock & roll band's manager was (or is) as iconic as the band themselves, but in this case its true. If Ian Stewart was "the sixth Stone," then Oldham has the to be the seventh. If not the [...]
The legendary Andrew Loog Oldham was kind enough to spend some time answering a few questions of mine recently for Perfect Sound Forever . Read the interview in full here . I was lucky enough to catch the screening last night for the new (and first official) version of the 1965 Stones' Irish tour film, Charlie Is My Darling . Thanks Teri! All I can say is see it as soon as you can, and make sure you're watching it on the biggest possible screen with the best possible sound system you can. Its absolutely stunning both in sound & vision. It FAR surpassed any expectations I had. Catch it! Charlie is My Darling plays once more at the Walter Reade Theater in New York next Thursday [...]

It's 1965, and Vashti Bunyan releases her first single, written by Mick & Keith. Stones producer Andrew Loog Oldham's lush pop treatment doesn't really fit Vashti's made-for-dream-folk-voice, but it's still a delight I can't get out of my head. Some things just stick I guess. For those of us who might, once in a while, prefer something physical in our hands as opposed to a screen & keyboard, I'd like to suggest the latest issue of a wonderful 'zine from the fine folks at Caught By the River - An Antidote To Indifference. With articles drawn from the blog, as well as some new ones, issue #3 of AATI includes pieces written by such UK music literary luminaries such as Kevin Pearce , Nik Cohn, Andrew Loog Oldham , Jon Savage , Bobby Gillespie , and quite a few [...]

Anorak Thing: Mike D'Abo Covers: Farlowe On Immediate
"This was Chris Farlowe's eighth U.K. single on Immediate and like some of his others garnered a U.S. release there on Immediate as well (oddly his U.K. smash version of 'Out Of time" came out here in the States on MGM). I haven't been able to ascertain exactly how many U.S. singles he had on Immediate, but they all came in this groovy stock company sleeve bearing the label's trademark "Happy to be a part of the industry of human happiness". via anorakthing.blogspot.com
