It was a cold and rainy day but didn't stop people for Record Store Day 2012. Surprised by the turnout when I got to Vertigo Records at 8:30am. There was already people in line, I was around the 20th person. Last year I was one of five people who got there at around that time. I guess the buzz and hype surrounding Record Store Day is a good thing for the indie record shops. I totally zoom by this year's event. Here is a list of what I bought. [...]
It’s happening again this year! Record Store Day 2012!! This will be my third year trying to get whatever “limited edition” records around. Like previous years I made a list of what records I wanted to get and what I bought . I understand some of the release will be available only in the UK and USA. The Ottawa music stores that are participating are: Compact Music CD Warehouse Birdman Sound [...]
I've got the track "Here's The Girl" by Melbourne duo Harmless stuck in my head right now. Its the first single from the upcoming debut album Water Feature by collaborators Cesar Rodrigues (Blue King Brown) and Monty Mackenzie (Cleverhorse) who've "weaved together a heady mix of traditional instrumentation, found sounds and loops into this multi-faceted track". Try it out in mp3 and video form below. Here's The Girl by showoffservices

How apt. The Horn The Hunt 's playin tomorrow at this gig/clubnight I'm running tomorrow night in Leeds and their PR team have dropped my favorite song by them. It's called Raptor and it's going to be released as a single on November 1st. I wish I could stream the original track but I cant (Get a soundcloud account guys! so I can embed your songs for people to listen to it!) The original tune is magical, with echoes of The Knife and Animal Collective. I've got the Aztec mix version here which you can [...]
Avey Tare to release new solo record 'Down There' 25th October 2010 Dave Portner AKA Avey Tare was born in Baltimore County, Maryland on April 24th in the year of 1979. He moved to New York City in 1997 where he resides to this day (in south Brooklyn). Though he spends most of his time writing songs and producing sounds (usually in Animal Collective ) he's also an intense record collector, film fanatic, book head, friend, and traveler. Buy CDs, [...]
A Lull is the result of Nigel Evan Dennis, Todd Miller and Mike Brown hashing out music ideas in basements, bedrooms and practice spaces all around Chicago over the past two years. Believing that everything has a place in a recording, A Lull include sounds of percussive instruments against a wall, churning cans full or garbage and beer bottles with a broom stick, hitting drums with microphones, recording unplugged electric guitars with extremely sensitive microphones, everything DIY. After more than 50 songs were written, the band began the live show near the end of 2008. [...]
Sensual Harassment 's sent us their new single about a week back. I don't know why they keep giving up excellent tracks for free download but you gotta love them for it. Entitled Fever , the single was engineered by Jesse Cannon (The Cure, Animal Collective ). Their sound has definitely progressed from Daddy Long Legs and Soldier. When we last covered Sensual Harassment , they were more raw, disco dance pop. In Fever , they kinda remind you of MGMT . We're lovin [...]
Set to release their debut EP with Paper Bag this month, here's Guelph, Ontario's Evan and Dylan Euteneier, better known as Mathemagic . Picture 'warm, dazed guitar riffs, barely-there synths, and blissed out harmonies' set to vintage-styled images of nature, and summer vacations. Although I might have just inadvertently described just about every band currently residing in the Chillwave category, Mathemagic 's distinctness stood out. Drawing inspiration from Beach Boys to Animal Collective , and more recent sounds of Washed Out , Toro Y Moi , these songs might sonder [...]
This band might as well not exist because if you want to find out anything more than the fact that they are a boy/girl duo from NYC you are going to have a tough time. Seriously, there is more information on the interweb about the social impact Captain Planet had on the American culture than there is information about the band Cults . Although, it doesn't really matter because they are still great. Imagine, if Animal Collective , The xx , and Architecture In Helsinki [...]
A Video To Start The Year This was all over the www on Thursday. Animal Collective makes epic video for Brother Sport. After completly dominating the End of Year Best of Lists, this is a nice start to '10 for...
Everybody's favorite obsession, Animal Collective has got a new video out. It's for the track Brothersport off their Merriweather Post Pavilion album and it's a dizzying coloursplash of bright paint, light and animation, directed by Jack Kubizne. Trippy as hell, laden with disjointed elusive meanings, exactly the way you want it. Buy Merriweather Post Pavilion on Domino here . If you like this post, then share it!
Panda Bear aka Noah Lennox , core member of Animal Collective , will be embarking on a European tour (including London) early in 2010, with his brand new album planned for released later in the year. Sure all of you are aware, his third solo album 'Person Pitch' featured in pretty much everyone's top album lists at the end of 2007. Years in the making, 'Person Pitch' was a dramatic departure from his previous solo record 'Young Prayer' , the acoustic instruments were replaced with samplers and electronics creating a record suffused with the [...]
