This 4th of July week means a short list of releases on our radar. Fortunately a few artists are worth checking out for that drive to your holiday destination. Gold Motel (above) rolled out their debut album Summer House a couple of years ago to raving reviews in the independent music world. With their self-titled album off of Thirty Tigers and from what we've heard ("Musicians", "Leave You in Love"), we're pretty pumped for their tour as well. The ambient fivesome of Easter [...]

Animal Collective have thrown down the first DJ set for Boiler Rooms new breakfast program "Breakfast Show" (doi). "So we’ve got Animal Collective coming down to Boiler Room for a morning session. The guys have been touring like crazy, so instead of getting them in to play live, they’ll be running tune, telling us a little about themselves and generally going through the processes of waking up". The US Boiler Room series officially kicked off today with a broadcast featuring AraabMuzik, Baauer, Physical [...]
When Animal Collective released Merriweather Post Pavilion, they had managed to contain their experimental side, while still adding explosions of psychedelic sound that was accessible both to new and old listeners. Giving the band the boost they needed both publicity and fan wise, many long time listeners are starting to worry about the mainstream influence in the bands upcoming 10th [...]

Animal Collective 's next full-length CENTIPEDE Hz is due in September 2012 on Domino . [via collected animals ]

There's no better way to kickstart the weekend than with some fresh tunes. In our selections this week, we've got both great music and G.O.O.D. Music, including a teaser for Twin Shadow's new disc and a remix from Kanye West's dream team. If you're more in the mood for some new discoveries, we've got those as well. Whatever your plans for the weekend, you'll need these ten tracks to accomplish them; we are sure of it. -Mike Madden Staff Writer Ab-Soul feat. Kendrick Lamar - "ILLuminate" [...]

Animal Collective will be releasing a brand new 73 on 26th June, which will feature two new tracks 'Honeycomb' and 'Gotham'. Listen to both of them above. No word yet on the new album, or whether these songs will be one it.
It appears that fans of the prolific and awesome Animal Collective have new reasons to be excited about the band, namely these two tracks just released within the last hour by Domino Records. The band have been working on a new album to follow up one of my favorites of 2009, Merriweather Post Pavilion, and [...]

Two new songs from Animal Collective : listen to both in the player below + pre-order the Honeycomb / Gotham 73 (and get the mp3s now) here .

We weren't going to do a 4/20 post, but then we got inspired. We thought about a post of stoner songs, but we all know what the best stoner anthems are, and you've all got your playlist of preferred pot smoking tunes. Instead, we collected seven music videos that will guarantee to provide that "ohh shit" moment for you while you're getting lifted and are looking for more than the latest chilled out rap song about smoking weed, because contrary to popular belief, you don't need to listen to music about smoking weed every time 4/20 comes around. So check [...]

Record Store Day is upon us. And by "upon us" I mean it's on April 21st, but it's time to start doing your research and deciding what goodies you're gonna snag on this most holy of music holidays. If you're not familiar with the holiday (or record stores) because you're a child of the internet and haven't been outside since you discovered you could order pizza online, let me enlighten you. Record stores used to be the only place you could go to get that new EP from your favorite artist. People would actually leave their homes, perhaps riding in [...]

I worship at the church of karaoke. The parishoners and I are there to confess and meditate, to feel welcomed by a community, to hear a good sermon or two, to perchance see someone speak in tongues and have the words of the Lord Bon Jovi be channeled through a mere mortal. And, of course, to have some drinks and venture to make complete fools out of ourselves. Karaoke exists in a vacuum of taste, where anomalies and exceptions always seem to arise and mess with my preconceptions. Maybe, like me, this is the only time you can really tolerate a Billy [...]

Oh snap! Gemini Club , the group who is apparently taking over my music library one track at a time, dropped another gem this past week, "Can't Believe You Said That". I personally like this track even better than "By Surprise", the song the trio released for free a few weeks ago; and that says something. Gemini Club has this charismatic thing like Ra Ra Riot mixed with Animal Collective. I can't put a finger on it, but am really digging their latest track. At any rate, we may have a strong contender [...]

From a person who absolutely loved Animal Collective's Merriweather Post Pavilion , the arrival of Brothertiger 's Golden Years has an eerily similar texture. The project of Ohio-native John Jagos hasn't proven to be as off the wall as the oddly-named foursome of Animal Collective, but the outward reaching, spacey moments capture a bit of the zaniness that's so damn contagious. In anticipation of the March 27 release of Golden Years from Mush Records , Brothertiger used the talents of with Kiki Allgeier and David Ambrose to produce a spandex-friendly video for "Lovers." [...]
Here's an uplifiting video for your Thursday afternoon, the atmospheric Iron Deer Dream by Oxford quintet Fixers . The band formed in 2011, recieving rave review of their synth based multi-track harmonies. Continually recieving comaparisons to the wonderful Animal Collective , the band do not dispell the rumours by citing them as an influence to MUZU . See below for a list of their favourite songs, past and present which displays a list of eclectic and diverse musicians and genres, spanning centuries of music. 1. Eurythmics - Shame 2. Hamish [...]

2012 is poised to be one of the greatest years in music in awhile. Why? Well, I'll give you a hint: it isn't because Justin Bieber is set to have an album coming out. In fact, I don't even know whether that's true or not. It's exciting because Phoenix, Spoon, Delta Spirit, Mumford & Sons, P.O.S., Passion Pit, Animal Collective, The Shins, Brother Ali, Dr. Dre, Miike Snow, Lana Del Rey, Andrew Bird, Sleigh Bells , and the xx are poised to release albums. That's not even including all of the new or smaller bands that will [...]
Arguably one of the greatest compilations of music ever created, (I will argue this) ‘Somebody’s Porridge’ is the first instalment of what hopes to be a long-running series of curated playlists. Seventy-seven tracks (numerical symmetry really does it for me) smeared far and wide across the aural spectrum; you’d be hard-pressed to find a more eclectic selection. Several of the tracks have never had a formal release, a few are made by friends of mine, some are classics and a bunch are just plain old fashioned face-melters. All of them are outstanding tracks that I’ve spent [...]
