Animal Collective’s Merriweather Post Pavilion was called the best record of 2009 even back in 2008, and as usual the band penetrated that sort of cloudiness to shine light down on everyone who was looking for it. They speak now over free french fries (and later via email) after their last Los Angeles show. Deakin (Josh Dibb) was not present on this tour. This interview by Chris Ziegler.
Some nuances of Animal Collective's "headphone music" are bound to get lost amid the pounding bass of a packed nightclub, and some songs that sound absolutely transcendent on record don't translate as well to a live show. Last night at First Avenue, those complications were audible during an uneven set where it seemed that every euphoric high was often met with equally mundane lows.

These are probably some of the funniest, cutest, and most honest music reviews you'll ever see. The people over at Scrapple.tv run a weekly web TV show called Breakfast at Sulimay's . The show takes place inside a Philly diner. Every week, Bill, Ann, and Joe listen to some current artists and give us their honest, unadulterated opinions. I can't get enough of these. Why are they hating so much on Dan Deacon & Animal Collective? On a side note, Joe is the man. [See post to watch Flash video] [...]

Yeah Yeah Yeahs have released a four song remix EP of their track ' Zero ' off the bands latest album, ' It's Blitz! '. The EP features remixed versions of the track done by NASA , Animal Collective , and Erol Alkan . The EP is now available on iTunes with a vinyl and CD release set to be released on June 9. The vinyl version of the EP will include a bonus remix version of ' Zero ' [...]
Animal Collective played to a sold out crowd at Terminal 5 and the performance was terrible. While I enjoy the band on record, their live show leaves much to be desired. The overlaying of the sounds come together as one big mess making some of their songs almost unrecognizable. I presume the [...]
![Animal Collective Performs “Summertime Clothes” on The Late Show with David Letterman [VIDEO]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1723752_lg.jpg)
Last Thursday, the guys of Animal Collective made a rare appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman . They performed "Summertime Clothes," which is a cut off of their latest album, Merriweather Post Pavilion , released back in January. I'm actually pretty surprised at how unusually normal looking they were for their performance. With their ecclectic style of experimental folk music, you would kind of expect them to be donning masks/capes/costumes/huge beards for their live set (see above) — but no, instead they chose to rock your standard hoodie. Interesting. Anyway, this song [...]

Southern California's Local Natives make it hard to draw comparisons. There are similarities here and there - Broken Social Scene and Fleet Foxes are among the contemporary names thrown around - but the Natives' style is less erratic than BSS, more ballsy than the Foxes. Their harmonic style is indicative of the influence of hazy beach bums of 60s SoCal and Zombified Brit pop, while their percussion philosophy derives from somewhere more natural: a unifying connection between the five-piece developed over hours spent living together in their own guerilla hideaway [...]

Words by Oliver Primus I deal with a lot of record labels these days and I can safely say that the fine people at FatCat/OLI, namely Shain Shapiro, run one of the finest around. Collectively the labels have put out the likes of Bjork, Sigur Ros, Animal Collective and Frightened Rabbit and continue to support new, fresh and exciting bands. They also share an office, which can be seen in more detail on our 'disposable' feature (which is now on the site). Rather than spouting off my love for the labels or some awful wiki nonsense, [...]

Interview and photos by Sarahana Blogs, online forums and fans alike were abuzz about Brooklyn's four-piece, Suckers , long before the release of their self-titled EP on I Am Sound Records earlier this month. Much of this was based on the strength of their live shows - though these were were mostly limited to New York - and an old four-track demo that closely resembles the new EP. That even a brief exposure to their music enables you to grasp their fresh aesthetic has probably been their greatest advantage. [...]

We asked them to interview each other after they played NoisePop together and before they both played Coachella. This is the complete version of this interview.

Words and interview by Derek Evers Video by Maia Stern and Hanly Banks Last week, Telepathe finally released their long-awaited, David Sitek -produced LP Dance Mother to the world, and we figured what better way to celebrate than a friendly game of bowling? Shot on the exact date of the physical U.S. release (April 14), we quickly came to realize that the competitive spirit burns brightly in this duo as the game soon became anything but friendly. Telepathe is [...]

Alongside Pitchfork’s reader’s polls and several other smaller sites, the aforementioned were just a few publications to award TV On the Radio’s fourth studio release Dear Science the title of Best Album of 2008. Today is the 91st day of 2009, or (almost) exactly one quarter of the way through 2009. Is it too soon to start thinking of "Best Songs" honors? I don't think so! Before I get into the list, I want to set up some ground rules: The only songs eligible are songs that were released as singles in 2009 (Jan 1st - March 31st, in this case). This will really limit this initial list, as some of my favorite songs of the year have been non-single album tracks, like "Summertime Clothes" by Animal Collective, or "Dull Life" by [...]

I want to say off the bat that I think Ed Droste, lead singer of Grizzly Bear, is a classy gent. When Grizzly Bear’s third studio release, Veckatimest , leaked at the beginning of this month (nearly 3 months before the album’s May 26th release date) he had this to say…er…Tweet: “ So yeah, it leaked. I'm happy people are loving it. Makes me smile! Just remember it's not a top notch sonic example. So keep that in mind. ” What a stud. He followed that up with a [...]
