photo by Morgen Schuler Following her arrest for hash possession last Thursday, Fiona Apple made her first statement on the arrest during a show in Houston the following night. Apple noted that while "most of [the people involved in her arrest] were very nice to me", Apple claimed that four related persons partook in "inappropriate and probably illegal" behavior. Not enough time has passed to call these songs throw backs, but the landscape of the EDM (Electronic Dance Music) world has changed significantly since their creation. Considering my emersion into this world was relatively recent, 2006, I find myself wondering about the history of electronic music, recent and long past. The explosion of dubstep around 2009 really intensified my love for EDM. Rusko's Jahova was the first wobble to grace my ears. Broken records don't repeat as much as Jahova did. Dubstep led me to Drum & Bass, even though the latter came first. Nu-disco and Electro Funk have [...]

One place I certainly wouldn't have minded being this weekend was the Coachella Festival in Los Angeles. The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is a three-day annual music and arts festival, featuring many genres of music, held at the Empire Polo Fields in Indio, California, in the Inland Empire's Coachella Valley. Like our Oxegen or Electric Picnic festivals, the event has several stages and tents set up throughout the grounds, each playing live music continuously throughout the three days. The festival first took place in 1999 and acts that have graced the stages since [...]

You guys have waited pretty patiently for me to get off my lazy ass and get my best of 2009 lists out to you. I mean it's already 15 days into 2010, I need to get with it! So like I said in my #100-51 list , I didn't include singles that were released in 2009 that have 2010 album release dates (such as Vampire Weekend's Cousins) since I consider them 2010 releases! I did include artists like Local Natives however since I obsessed over them this year and their album did come out in the UK! [...]
With many head-turners throughout 2009, we found much more strength in our singles list than in albums this past year. However, our top 30 albums are nothing to sneeze at. Several albums this past year ... Related posts: Music Under Fire: Top 30 Albums for 2008 Mix For The Weekend VI Top 20 Artists To Look Forward To In 2009 (Part 1)
The previous two years were filled with amazing albums by amazing bands. Picking the ten best of2007 was hard. Picking the top albums of 2008 was almost impossible. In contrast, 2009 was rather easy. There just weren't that many brilliant albums this year. In fact there weren't even that many great albums. Fret not, though, there is still more than enough music to enjoy. 01 : Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion ( amazon ) ( itunes ) I don't like a single other album that Animal Collective [...]
Last year we got our top of the year lists out early. This year it seemed like everyone was trying to get their lists out as early as possible to capitalize on the potential traffic or whatever it is people compete for. We decided to sit back and let the year finish before commenting on it (read: we were super lazy). None the less, here's our picks for the best albums of 092 Here's to hoping you get 18% more lay in 2010. 20. Don Cash - Freshy Fresh [...]

GSL's Top Albums of 2009 revealed!

After many months of deliberation here at L&L Towers (ok, it's just me sitting there looking out of the window trying to remember what on earth I'd done all year), I've put together my top albums of the year. Like the Albums of the Decade (starting here ), the idea was to only choose albums which I happily listen to all the way through, and had listened to a whole bunch of times. This time, rather than the album art, I've gone for YouTube videos. Enjoy! The Top 5, not in any [...]
As the first year for Too Much Happiness comes to a close, I look back and think that it was a pretty good year for music. I wouldn't say it was anything EPIC. Certainly some influential albums here and there, but no real game changers. This is MY personal list of my top 20 favorite albums of 2009. Mine and mine alone. I'm sure Paul and Adam would take exception to many of these (Metric over Phoenix? Paramore over Miike Snow?! Animal Collective is HOW FAR DOWN?!?!), and I'm not even saying these are what I believe [...]
Well, here it is...the annual epic 111 best albums of 2009...as voted on by you. Usually it's a close race...but this year, Animal Collective ran away with it. In fact, the entire top ten was leaps and bounds above the rest. And...if you have a problem with the list...then blame yourselves...you're the ones who voted.See ya, next decade!!Here are the 111 Best Albums of 2009:1. Animal

Condensing an entire year of music that you’ve listened to is an absolutely impossible task. And yet, it’s so tempting to gaze at the year that hasn’t even gone and attempt to squash it all into one post. At the same time, end of year lists are exceptionally popular, and yet all anyone seems to do is complain about them. “What the hell? I was expecting your top 50 to be exactly the same as mine!”. Which, blatantly, is a ridiculous way to look at things. Personally, I think that end of year lists are more than a romantic glance [...]
