A couple of days ago I was listening to Merriweather Post Pavillion without my headphones, blaring the music throughout my first floor apartment for all to hear. Basically that meant me and my Animal Collective hating girlfriend. I knew full well what I was doing in trying to elicit her reaction and she played along beautifully. Rachael - "Who is this?" Me - "The new Animal Collective" Rachael - "Really????" Me - "Yep" Rachael - "Wow, I kind of like this" Granted it wasn't the same reaction I gave the record, or that you [...]

So Morrissey's new album Years of Refusal has leaked. I'm not really all that impressed, but I did really like a couple of songs: Mo rrissey - It's Not Your Birthday Anymore Mo rrissey - I'm OK By Myself Now, will Animal Collective's Merriweather Post Pavilion be the album to beat in 2009? Pitchfork seems to think so. [...]
As 2008 comes to a close, we at Stranger Dance are starting to look forward to what 2009 holds. A number of our favorite artists ( Andrew Bird , Bon Iver , Wilco , etc.) have confirmed upcoming albums and even more are flirting with the idea. A few things stuck out to us while compiling this this. First, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy promises his "biggest and most ambitious album" to date. The New Pornographers crew have obviously been busy with a new release scheduled for the group as well as members [...]

Before we begin, do you know who this is in the photo above? No? Why, it's Marjorie Merriweather Post, the founder of General Foods, Inc. Though she enjoyed a lavish lifestyle and socialite existence, the cereal magnate also subscribed to the Rockefeller school of philanthropic thought and donated tons of money to various causes, eventually getting an outdoor concert pavilion in Maryland named after her and, ergo, an album I'm getting ready to pop on the ghetto blaster. So anyway, you know the drill. When I grip a new and anticipated jam hive, I like to review it [...]
So here is a playlist comprised of many of my favourite songs from the year. Not all of my favs are here, but I think all of the essentials are in it. I tried my best to build this as a flowing playlist more than just a collection of songs, so the order and even some of the selections reflect that. I really need to do more mixtapes. Based on Hypemachine/elbow popularity, I know everyone loves that Fleet Foxes song, but I decided instead to treat you to a better song from one of the bands that [...]

Well it was inevitable, the much anticipated 9th studio album by Animal Collective , ' Merriweather Post Pavillion ', has leaked. The album, which is officially out January 20 has leaked onto several torrent sites. In November a track off the forthcoming album, ' Brothersport ', leaked online but was later removed. The leaked track was posted by the band Grizzly Bear on their blog leading to several false reports that the band were the original leakers of the song. Animal [...]

harlem Here's the second installment from Harlem 's " Cover of the Month Club ," in which the Austin group offers up this relatively faithful and straightforward lo-fi take on Q Lazzarus' " Goodbye Horses ." I posted about the song's mild resurgence a few months back , but if you're unfamiliar, you might recognize it from this scene , which scarred me for life at age 13. mp3: harlem :: goodbye horses (q lazzarus cover) *********************** [...]

The album was leaked & you can download it by clicking on the album cover... Please buy this record on wax or go see them & buy their merch, etc

So I'm just making it with the Christmas deadline because I started this post in the wrong blog, but it's still the holidays! Sorry for the lack of posts lately, but finals were brutal. But now it's break! Hooray! Lets celebrate with some xmas jamz. In case you missed it, here was todays headline: Santa 1; Martians 0. I know it might be a little late for new Christmas music, but whatever, it's never too late for fly new tunes. [...]

Summertime Clothes - Animal Collective Brothersport - Animal Collective

People have been dying for it, the web sheriff has been working his ass off to prevent a leak, but it looks like Santa had other ideas in mind. I guess the vinyl's got sent out early, and as a result the album is out there. Maybe it is a secret Christmas gift from Panda Bear and the rest of the boys. Probably not. I haven't listened, but people are buzzing at the low quality leak saying it is absolutely fantastic as expected. If you know where to look you will find it. If you need help, use [...]

I was able to grip a little bit of Merriweather Post Pavilion , the new slam jam from Animal Collective , earlier this evening. I'm only posting this guy for now, since this is one of the more familiar songs from the new repertoire (and also since it has sorta kinda already leaked, expunging me from any responsibility for leaky faucets). The jam's called "My Girls," formerly known as "House" and possibly a couple of other titles. It doesn't deviate too much from what we've heard live the past year, other than clearer vocals in the mix that [...]
Two exciting bits of news over on Chris Cantaliini's Gorilla Vs. Bear on this chilly, chilly afternoon:The site will be hosting an official release party for Animal Collective's new disc, Merriweathe... The EP has been used in so many different ways over the years. A quick introduction to a brand new band. A way to make a couple of bucks while out on tour. Maybe a gap filler between two albums. Or just a way to record something quick and cheaply. Whatever way bands have chosen to use it the EP has become a huge part of the world of music, but they can't quite be held to the same standards as an album. Can they? I suppose in some respects they can, but for my money it seems like a [...]

Post punk lo-fi psych rock. I've waited a long time to use that genre title to describe a band. Thanks to 4 dudes named Women today is that day. The foursome hail from Alberta, CA, and recently released their debut full length (self titled) via ghetto blasters and tape machines through Jagjaguwar . Fans of Deerhunter , and Animal Collective will be pleased with these gentlemen. Their track "Black Rice" has been rocking my ipod silly as of late. Stream and download the track below! Then buy this record! [...]
Animal Collective is unarguably one of the most wonderful bands out there who continues to surprise me with their ability to make sounds that I've only heard in my dreams. Just when you think a song is over, something incredible happens and for once I find myself listening to something in its entirety. These two tracks off their upcoming album Merriweather Post Pavilion are a great way to start my day. Animal Collective - Brothersport [alt link] Animal Collective [...]
