If Panda Bear’s (Noah Lennox) last solo album Person Pitch is anything to go by fans would expect to hear delightfully challenging music, full of ingenious sampling and catchy melodies but on Tomboy Lennox explores rhythm in an entirely different way. There is a clear movement away from methods of tape manipulation with emphasis on guitar driven rhythms. Indeed Tomboy’s producer, Sonic Boom was a member of Spacemen 3 and at time we hear Lennox creating hypnotic driving rhythms akin to the pioneering shoegazers. Read more..

Yesterday saw at least two much anticipated records released from highly successful bands in the oughts, TV on the Radio and Panda Bear from Animal Collective. I think that their differing styles leads to an interesting debate about popular music and if a band "gets it" . The new Panda Bear record, Tomboy , starts with a track titled You Can Count on Me , and if nothing else I can count on him being honest with himself and the style [...]

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars If you had just entered into the alternative side of the music scene recently, and knew nothing of a little band called Animal Collective , there is still a great chance that Panda Bear would have crossed your path sooner or later. Despite being a rational fan of Animal Collective , I wanted to hate this record so bad. Something about how much it was hyped before its release just sort of irked me. However, despite my [...]
When Panda Bear released the album Person Pitch in 2007, the entire indie world erupted into a spontaneous standing ovation. Then before we knew it, Animal Collective ’s Merriweather Post Pavilion was released in 2009. Chaotic, worshipful, hair-rendering hysteria ensued. Finally, Noah Lennox-who fronts both projects-is back with Tomboy . Not one for sophomore slumps, weak follow ups or anything approaching normal human frailty, where does this genius go to mine for inspiration? Oddly enough, the spice cabinet inspires him. "I like to think of it like salt [...]

I was one of the lucky ones to attend the Animal Collective tour opener last night in Petaluma, just a quick hour drive north after a day spent out in the sun with friends. I've been pretty amped on the band since their work on Merriweather Post Pavilion and it's really brought me back deeper into their catalog, which was something that actually didn't come in handy at all given the band's choice of about 9 new songs to anchor their 80 minute set in a punk movie theater in [...]

When your expectations for an album are so high, what are the opportunities? The album could fall short and disappoint you beyond belief but with "Tomboy," quite frankly, it seems the album is destined for a remarkably exceptional, “soon to be at the prized spot” on all of the music lists for this year. Panda Bear comprises of Noah Lennox, the crafted musician who is both a solo artist and a member of Animal Collective. Lennox strived to deliver an album filled with a heavy focus on rhythm and guitar, moving away from the sample-based songwriting of [...]

According to the band's message boards , they played nine new songs at the show last night, several of which you can watch after the jump, courtesy of YouTube user erasmustyc . As of yet, there has [...]
So, it was a long wait. There's no getting around that. As soon as Animal Collective finished touring their masterpiece of an album Merriweather Post Pavilion , rumors of another Panda Bear solo album began to surface. That was roughly December of 2009. Now, over a year later, we have it. Was it worth the wait? In a word: absolutely. In every way, the pressure was on for Noah Lennox (aka Panda Bear) to produce a stunning record. Coming off the success of what may very well become Animal Collective's magnum opus ( [...]

As it turns out, Animal Collective 's ongoing California tour isn't just a warm-up for the band's Saturday appearance at Coachellla, but also a chance to showcase several new jams. According to the band's Collected Animals message board, Animal Collective played as many as nine new songs during their show at Phoenix Theater in Petaluma, California last night. Via YouTube user erasmustyc , several decent clips are available for streaming below; there are also videos posted here and here . There are no details on when the follow-up to 20092s [...]

Follow Me Radio.
Next week, Animal Collective 's Noah Lennox is set to drop his latest under the Panda Bear franchise. The new release is entitled Tomboy . Like much of Animal Collective's / Panda Bear's past works, 'Last Night at the Jetty' features a seductive climb that evolves into a profound chorus, beginning at about the 1:50 mark. This track has a tendency to send chills down your spine because of how damned good it is. Stream 'Last Night at the Jetty' below: [...]

I recently downloaded the leak of Panda Bear 's "Tomboy" after I had waited 4 it for the past 3+ years... But now that I have it I am afraid to unzip the files afraid to dive in Afraid of what I might hear Maybe it will be 'good' Maybe it will be 'bad' But maybe, I have moved on beyond 'needing music to be good or bad' and constructing my identity based on my ability to critically evaluate music I've grown up a lot as a [...]

For those of you that are giddy about all things Animal Collective it means that almost by extension you will be delighted by the surfacing of the new Panda Bear album, Tomboy . It is apparently a prerequisite that seemingly you don't have much free will or choice over. Prepared to get giddy. Panda Bear - Tomboy by In House Press
I enjoy Animal Collective as much as the next guy, which is why I'm baffled by this album failing to translate in any sort of major enjoyment to me. I have to admit I kind of saw this coming, though. Many of these tracks were released on singles before the album release, and I only enjoyed a few of them. However, I have to admit that the sonice qualities of these tracks really do come together into a cohesive direction on the LP. Everything works together as one. The album is basically voltron, and the singles were merely [...]

Last week's band of the week was one member of a band I consider to be at the forefront of contemporary indie-rock music-making - today it's another. The artist of the week is... AVEY TARE!!! I feel like Avey Tare has become the underdog of Animal Collective . Everyone shits themselves over whatever Panda Bear does (well...he's done some pretty awesome shit) but Avey Tare aka David Portner does some pretty cool fucking shit too, both on AC album and solo. To start, the album [...]

Noah Lennox. Panda Bear. Tomboy. Разом. Целиком. Удивительно, да? Больше года выходили синглы — You Can Count on Me, Tomboy, Surfers Hymn и умопомрачител ьная Last Night at the Jetty,

We finally have Panda Bear’s Tomboy in it’s entirety to listen to, thanks to the good folk over at NPR . It was nice to hear this single by single, but listening to this in it’s entirety sounds so much better. Definitely good enough to hold us over until the next Animal Collective release. The album comes out next week on April 12th I’m going with “You Can Count On Me” as my favorite track so far. What’s everyone else’s favorite?
