Some very strong releases this week, including the return of indie favorites Okkervil River with their new album I Am Very Far (which is only $3.99 today at Amazon ) and new ones from great bands like The Antlers and Wild Beasts. Check out all of the noteworthy new releases and some sample tracks below. New Music Releases - Tuesday, May 10, 2011: - The Antlers - Burst Apart - Biffy Clyro - Many [...]

So since I was gone last week I totally missed out on telling you about Fleet Foxes Helplessness Blues , there was probably some other good stuff but I don't have the time to go back in time and figure that out. So let's move on with our lives ok? The albums I am most excited about are Tyler, The Creator's Goblin , The Antlers' Burst Apart & Man Man's Life Fantastic . There are obviously a ton of other albums coming out that I am sure people will [...]
It's been way too long since my last new music Tuesday but on the bright side, that means this one is filled with great songs I've been lax to post, starting with a track from the new Low album, C'Mon . Low have been recording since way back in 1993, and this is their 10th full-length, both very impressive feats, somehow more impressive when considering how static their music can appear upon first listen -- so stripped down, slow, moody, but wonderful. They've switched things up a bit in recent years, with a more varied sound, adding [...]

Every Night My Teeth Are Falling Out The Antlers are getting ready to release their new album 'Burst Apart' which is out 5/10. They recently released 'Parentheses' and now another track 'Every Night My Teeth Are Falling Out.' The album is catching a lot of buzz and I'm looking forward to hearing it in it's entirety. Pre-order Burst Apart before it comes out on May 10th.

The Antlers have released the first track from their much anticipated follow up to Hospice which is calles Burst Apart . The track is called Parentheses and it sounds ace. Really excited to hear more from this band. Have a listen to it here. What you think to this?
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , New Music , Exclusive Shervin Lainez Lots of bands devote concerts or, sometimes, entire tours to one specific album, but it's rare that a band does that for an album before it's even released. The Antlers did just that at this year's SXSW when they performed their new album 'Burst Apart' at an NPR showcase. "The idea was NPR's," [...]

The Antler's Hospice was a serious piece of work that really resonated with me and many other people in a very emotional way. However, this time around it seems as though the band is done making people feel like a pile of utter sadness and more concerned with creating an album that grooves in a Jeff Buckley fashion. I am loving this new track and am really looking forward to what's next with these guys. You can pre-order Burst Apart (May 10) here . [Audio clip: view full post to [...]
Parentheses from The Antlers: The Antlers ' forthcoming album, 'Burst Apart', is set to be released on May 10th via FrenchKiss.

Check out the new track from the Antlers, Parentheses. This one as with a lot of the Antlers' music is difficult to describe. This has got a more rattly sound that what we heard on Hospice, but their 'slowcore' styling and choir like vocals are entrancing. Its a great sounding song, and makes my mouth water at another album of it. Pre-order Burst Apart before it comes out on May 10th.

What happens when one of your favorite bands covers one of your least favorite bands? It's a question I never thought I'd have to answer, save for the occasional ironic cover of some Top 40 hit makes. This week though Brooklyn's The Antlers decided to cover minimal buzz band of the moment The xx , and I was forced to face on of my favorite bands doing their artistic best to do an earnest cover of one of my least favorite. In their take on "VCR", The [...]

While I was absent from the internet yesterday it seemed just about everyone was linking to and posting The Antlers' new video for "Sylvia" which premiered on IFC.com yesterday. Unfortunately the site doesn't have an embed code so you'll have to click over to see the video there. Along with the video there was a download code for two song EP called New York Hospitals , which includes the intro to the Hospice version of "Sylvia" aptly called "Sylvia (An Introduction)". The funny thing is [...]
On Saturday vinyl lovers everywhere will line the streets outside their local records shops hoping against hope that the exclusive 73s they have their eyes fixed on will still be available. Like many of you I'll be in line with some hard earned dollars ready to leave my pockets for records released just for this day! Record Store Day has become a sort of hipster Christmas, shining a spotlight on the burgeoning vinyl scene and allowing our local mom and pop record stores to have a day where stores will be full and absolutely [...]

Meet this hardworking band out of NYC ready to take on the World.
The Antlers released their video for "Bear" this week. The Antlers have been a focus for SFCritic in recent weeks, check out an interview here and show review here. Forgive the video's load time, just click and come back. Many bloggers have described the video as "how to save a woman," now isn't that just a little hetero-normative. Deep, profound, and "beautiful" videos such as this make me think that this indie-folk movement is a combo of the grunge and emo music phase of long ago. Thanks to... Read more at www.SFCritic.com
I will the first to admit that I don't live in the biggest city in the world, but over the last couple of years there has been an increasingly amazing roster of live acts come through our town. So, here's my list of best 15 live acts I had the opportunity to see this year. Click on their respective links to see if they are coming through your neck of the woods. They are not to be missed. all the while i'll know we're fucked and not getting unfucked soon The Antlers - Bear I've stumbled across a number of tracks off of The Antlers recent Hospice LP and was left generally underwhelmed. Then "Bear" came along and grabbed my ear. I'm not sure whether it was the song's quiet-loud beauty or the above awesome lyric that caught me first, but either way they have both grown on me lately and it's time they grow on you. That is, unless you are already on [...]

It's Friday, and I like to post new music on Fridays to liven things up for the weekend. You all know where I'll be tonight, but on the off chance that you don't have any plans yourself, you should give a listen to The Antlers . I always thought of The Antlers as sort of ambient/drone music (I mean drone in a good way), but these two songs are surprisingly energetic. In fact, they're deceptive, as they start out one way [...]

Brooklyn's The Antlers will self-release their new album, Hospice , on March 3rd. The effort will be available to download digitally or as a limited edition CD. The album is the follow-up to 2007's In the Attic of the Universe . The blogosphere was quite affectionate of Attic and it wound up on many best-of lists. Successful stints at CMJ and SXSW also helped develop the band's fanbase. The Antlers began as Peter Silberman's solo [...]
