Falling into our laps without a pretty blond hair out of place is Tom Odell , guaranteed to find his place on the Top 40 before too long. His EP Songs from Another Love (UK-only stream) will soon be followed by a full-length debut album, and he is working from the PR playbook, signing to Lily Allen 's label imprint, appearing in moody photoshoots and becoming "friends" with Taylor Swift ; are they or aren't they? Ooh it worked, now [...]

What's there to say about The Irrepressibles that hasn't been said already? Quite a lot, actually, since there are nowhere near enough people talking about them. Fitting somewhere in between Antony And The Johnsons and Perfume Genius , their music is hauntingly affecting, conjuring sparse atmospheres that are populated with hope, joy, sorrow, contemplation, and solitude. Further proof/convincing can be found in "Arrow" and "Tear" . All of [...]

It was only a few days ago that we posted the video for Antony and the Johnsons song " Cut the World ," which was quite an epic piece of music video. But we now have the forthcoming live album of the same name for streaming thanks to Secretly Canadian . The album was recorded in Copenhagen with The Danish National Chamber Orchestra , and that helped create a wonderful record. Give it a listen below. Fresh? Tweet

This week Antony And The Johnsons released their live album Cut The World , a collection of tracks from each of their four albums rearranged into a live symphonic performance. It was recorded in Denmark with The Danish National Chamber Orchestra, and it's such a stunningly, beautiful, heartening album, something that was already evident in their music over the last 12 years or so. Earlier this week they premiered the amazing "Cut The World" and disturbing accompanying video for it, [...]

Music has always needed mavericks, subversives, and artistic eccentrics. The sort of people who aren’t moved or motivated by the promised shimmer of gold or the warm embrace of fame. I’m talking about the true artists who do it for the love of the medium and the belief of their message. This breed still live among us, though their exposure is often limited, sometimes by choice, and often because the thirsty spotlight of the mass media skips over them in order to highlight the latest soulless cash cow. Without these people, however, music would die a slow death, the flesh [...]
This week sees the release of Antony And The Johnsons ' new live album Cut The World , and today Pitchfork premiered a new song and video from it for the album's title track. Directed by NABIL and featuring Willem Dafoe and Carice van Houten, it's a deeply dark video that's had me watching it five times in a row, it's so harrowing and affecting, and the music probably wouldn't fit any other video made for it. Cut The [...]
At the start of the week we got a comment on our Facebook page from a project called Coral Rekindling Venus , as they say: "Coral Rekindling Venus is major work for fulldome digital planetariums by acclaimed artist Lynette Wallworth. It is an extraordinary journey into a mysterious realm of fluorescent coral reefs, bioluminescent sea creatures and rare marine life, revealing a complex community living in the oceans most threatened by climate change." Still not entirely sure what that it is [...]
At the start of the month we treated you to the exquisite new track by CocoRosie , "We Are On Fire" , their new 73 single that was produced by TV On The Radio 's Dave Sitek and featuring Antony Hegarty from Antony And The Johnsons on the flipside. If you're still spinning "We Are On Fire" then give it a rest and listen to the b-side "Tearz For Animals" . Antony Hegarty's always had that [...]
Listen to Coco Rosie 's new song "We Are On Fire" below. If you've ever seen a picture of Coco Rosie then you know that they're not known for being boring and conventional, and their music takes the same vein too. The duo are back with a brand new 73 single "We Are On Fire" with the b-side "Tearz For Animals" (which will feature Antony Hegarty of Antony And The Johnsons ), both of which were produced by [...]
Tweet Listen to Perfume Genius ' new album "Put Your Back N 2 It" below. If you're at all familiar with Perfume Genius ' exquisitely heart-wrenchin g debut album "Learning" , it should come as no surprise that the follow-up is equally as touching. There are few artists whose voice alone can give you chills, but Mike Hadreas ( Perfume Genius ) is one them, along with the likes of [...]

This post is a "QuickPick". QuickPicks are my attempt at getting all of the music that's sent to me that I like (or just music I like but have no words for because it's so awesome), out into the dubya dots. Any time I get sent music that I like I "star" it in Gmail and then go back and listen to it a day later. If it's still as good as it was a day before then it goes up on the site, but sometimes I get backlogged and can't get through writing [...]

By EPA/Grzegorz Momot In the cadence of the piano, in the silence that marks each passage of chilling notes, there's such gripping heartache. It's as though there's no bottom to the depths of Antony's emotional delivery. As strings creep in, it's hard to not find yourself lost inside the melancholic beauty that fills Antony's pained delivery. With it's delicate nature, I find myself struggling not to get swept away by its dark magnetism. It's filled with such sorrow, but it is so awe-inspiringly beautiful, so [...]

The pAper chAse will be releasing their new album Someday This Could All Be Yours (Part 1) , late next month on Kill Rock Stars Records , so we thought we would share a taste of what is to come from John Congleton and his band with an exclusive listen to "What Should We Do?". This Could All Be Yours (Part 1) will be the fifth album released by The pAper chAse, and will be followed up by Part 2 later within the year. [...]

I've often compared Antony Hegarty of Antony and the Johnsons to the late Benjamin Smoke , but I don't think I could've ever imagined Smoke doing a disco track like "Blind". In fact, the song by Hercules And The Love Affair , aka Brooklyn producer Andy Butler with Antony guesting might be the only time I've listed a disco track as the best of anything. But it's that good, I had to. -Derek Evers Hercules and Love Affair featuring Antony [...]
