Crinkles For What Ails You

Crinkles For What Ails You It's not often that I'll go out of my way to endorse close-up shots of kids getting bruised, maimed, lacerated or otherwise impaired.  But somehow, the swaying croon of Crinkles frontmen Jonathan and Nicholas Campolo makes it all okay.  Indeed, the video for Crinkles' "Elevator" is a 4-minute treasure of vintage found-footage; dabbling in analog psychedelia on the visual end of things, whilst sonically adhering to a quietly-wrought drapery of woozy vocals and lo-fi arrangement. Originally formed in Burlington VT, the brothers Campolo together with lead-guitarist Daniel Crosby and drummer Andrew Chugg relocated the band to [...]

Bite Sized Sets: Cate Le Bon

Bite Sized Sets: Cate Le Bon
Since emerging a couple of years back, Welsh songstress Cate Le Bon has found herself amongst some great company. She has collaborated with Super Furries frontman Gruff Rhys, and a tour last year with St. Vincent helped to bring even more attention to her work. Her brand of psych-folk rock has commonly drawn reference to Velvet's era Nico. But Le Bon's music also at times tends to recall some of Josephine Foster's work with the Supposed or even on occasion, Broadcast. This year, Le Bon has already been quite busy with a headlining [...]

The above clip features performances of "Give Out" and "Leonard," from the new album. And below, Sharon performs "A Life of His Own," a song featured as the [...]

This past month, America Hearts kicked things off, playing a set of old favorites as well as introducing us to a couple of new songs. The above video features the band performing one of those new tracks, "Give Me Your Lips." Stay tuned for some new releases that the band have in the works. Thanks to Rob [...]

Sunny Ali and the Kid - Two girls
Our favorite Pakistani psychedelic cow-punks Sunny Ali & The Kid return with a new video for the latest single, "Two Girls." We bounced around Philadelphia with them last year, eating tacos, checking out a show at the Ox, and hanging out in their favorite Mexican cowboy shop. You can revisit our interview with them here .

Bite Sized Sets: Bad Weather California

Bite Sized Sets: Bad Weather California
This winter, Colorado's Bad Weather California went out on the road with pals Akron/Family, to promote their upcoming LP. BWC worked with Akron Fam's Seth Olinsky to record the album, and it turns out they will also have a major hand in putting it out by releasing on their own label. In the above clip, Bad Weather California (the "punk band that doesn't sound like one") is seen performing a couple of songs, "If You Can Dance" and "Don & I," during their set last month at Rock and Roll Hotel. These tunes also appear on their [...]

VIDEO: The Plums, “Sigmar Polke (Edit)”

PLUMS "Sigmar Polke (Edit)"
Experimental noise-rock band The Plums have had a pretty productive year, with residencies at Bella and Dynasty respectively, and the release of their White LP. An excellent record that you can buy directly from the band here . The above video features footage shot this week at the latest installment of their Dynasty residency, and cut to a track from the album. I handled the camera, but Marc Masters, a frequent video collaborator and bassist/keyboardist for the band put the clip together. Some photos from the show below:

Surf City, "Crazy Rulers of the World"
The New Zealand fuzz-poppers kicked off 2011 with the release of their debut full-length album, Kudos , on Fire Records, and a brief American tour with psych-rock label mates Bardo Pond. And now, to round out the year, they've dropped a video to accompany the single, "Crazy Rulers of the World." The video debuted on Pitchfork a few weeks back and we've got the video for you here in case you missed it. We created this official video from footage shot during their D.C. show, so you've got a little bit of AON [...]
