Filed under: News , Exclusive , New Music , New Releases Arts & Crafts It's been over a year since the release of Broken Social Scene 's latest album, 'Forgiveness Rock Record,' and they've spent the time between concerts pursuing other projects. Individual members have kept busy, but it's been relatively quiet on the Broken Social Scene front. According to BSS mainstay Andrew Whiteman, that should change soon.
Filed under: News , Video , Exclusive , New Releases Danielle St. Laurent Ever wonder why the members of Broken Social Scene often don't appear in their own music videos? Call it an aesthetic choice, but there may be a deeper reason lurking beneath the surface. "I don't believe in videos," Broken Social Scene member Andrew Whiteman tells Spinner. "I think they're bulls---." That would make sense [...]

Anneke Hymmen Montrealer Mike Feuerstack isn't anything resembling a household name but if you've got records from Belle Orchestre , Angela Desveaux or The Wooden Stars in your collection - and you probably should - then you've got his name in your liner notes. But if not, then you probably don't have anything from his solo project Snailhouse and that's a shame - but one you can easily rectify with his new album Sentimental Gentleman when it's released on May 24. In [...]
In 2006 it seemed like Matthew Adam Hart would soon reach prolific status. Hart's flurry of successful remixes and the release of The Russian Futurists' '05 gem, Our Thickness, suggested that he could become the next Matthew Herbert of sorts, a musical entrepreneur with refined innovation even beyond his specialized niche of electronica. Our Thickness [...]

The Canadian indie supergroup, Broken Social Scene , have long since been on a roll following the release of their 5th full-length album, Forgiveness Rock Record in May of this year. The collective consists of an ever-changing roster of musicians including Leslie Feist, Stars, Apostle of Hustle, amongst a slew of others. The music video for their second single off of the aforementioned album, "Forced To Love" features holographic type visuals of the band. Check out the video, directed by Makapoon here: Forgiveness Rock Record [...]
Fallen all over again for "Vertigo". While the theme of voyeurism, of looking and longing for an illusion remains at the center, just how I remembered it … - Wishasana I've had Apostle of Hustle's Kings and Queens stuck in my head for the last couple of days. I wanted to capture it somehow and present it visually. I chose Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo because I liked the way Wishasana talked about the film – of looking and longing for an [...]

Click image to download full album Song: Beirut - Postcards from Italy Download audio file (02-Eazy-Speaks.mp3) What Others Say: Eazy Speaks is an example of this - there's a driving rhythm, urgent guitars and a much more agressive sound to what I'm used to hearing. However, Whiteman's vocals and the stop-and-go drums ensure your hips never stop swaying. Lastly, I've read that this song is "a tribute to a deceased poet from LA", and with [...]
It seems hard to believe that it's been five years since Canadian indie-rock collective Broken Social Scene released their self-titled third album. Since then, BSS's individual members have gone on to find success on their own with the likes of Leslie Feist, Kevin Drew, Jason Collett - as well as members of Metric, Stars and Apostle Of Hustle - all having logged time in the band. After putting out a couple of albums under the Broken Social Scene Presents moniker, the Toronto-based act is back with their latest offering Forgiveness Rock [...]

If you're at all familiar with the sordid past of psych-rock pioneer Roky Erickson , than you know that it was only a few years ago that the possibility of ever seeing him perform live seemed about as likely as a warm winter in Toronto. His heavily permissive lifestyle back in the 60's while he was the leader of seminal psychsters the 13th Floor Elevators led to his being diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia in 1968, resulting in jailtime, electroshock therapy, and even a brief stint where he believed that aliens were coming to Earth to do him harm. It [...]
