Arcade Fire's violinist Sarah Neufeld branches out on her own. Hear "Hero Brother". Best known for her violin work as a member in Arcade Fire and Bell Orchestre, Montreal based Sarah Neufeld will...

If there’s any proof that indie isn’t dead in this modern age, it’s the fact that Boats are still around. If you’re not familiar with their work, these guys are a Canadian indie rock band from Winnipeg, specializing in light-hearted pop extravaganzas that incorporate just about every single instrument under the sun. Their first album, Intercontinental Champion , was released in 2007, and they've been making their wry blend of twee pop and noisy rock ever since. When it comes to this band, a lot of their lyrics feel like they [...]

![[Review/Listen] – Fanfarlo – “Rooms Filled With Light”](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4163171_lg.jpg)
After the release of their likeable but frankly unremarkable first album "Resevoir" , Fanfarlo received more attention for their similarity to other acts than for their own innovations, of which there were few: the emotionally frantic chamber-pop of "Resevoir" was inescapably indebted to Arcade Fire and Beirut . With 2012 looking to be free of any releases from those two bands, just as 2009 was, you could be forgiven for eyeing the timing of the release Fanfarlo's second [...]

Earlier this month, we heard Arcade Fire 's first contribution to the movie adaptation of The Hunger Games in the form of " Abraham's Daughter ." As was mentioned when the first track made its way into our hands, the indie outfit also contributed a solely instrumental song to the movie as well. The song, titled "Horn of Plenty," an orchestral piece that can be streamed in full via ArcadeFireTube's official Facebook page . When speaking to EW about the track, here is what Win Butler had to say: [...]
Arcade Fire wrote two original tracks for the new film The Hunger Games – we’ve already heard “Abraham’s Daughter,” and now we can sample the instrumentals the band penned as the national anthem of the film’s dystopic world. With some help from the film’s composer James Newton Howard, the band turned their ideas into an integral and truly epic score. The result is hypnotic – a slice of sweeping, powerful grandeur with massive, pounding drums, indiscernible choir vocals, anthemic horns and strings. Check it out. Last night, Zane Lowe debuted a brand new remix of an Arcade Fire track from Soulwax . Now, when you love one band and you like another the results by logic should be mind blowing, right? Casing point give the aforementioned Soulwax remix of Arcade Fire's The Suburbs featuring track, "Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)" below. Soulwax have warped the track whilst keeping the already highly lovable track's roots in tact. A wonderful way to spend 6 minutes of your Tuesday morning. Next month for Record Store Day, Arcade Fire will release some very limited [...]
I remember the first time I heard Soulwax's remix of The Rolling Stones' "You Can't Always Get What Yo Want." It was during a particularly fuzzy DJ set at SXSW 2008, and I distinctly remember the palpable excited energy in the room when people realized just who's voice it was that these intensifying synth planes and percolating arpeggios were twisting and swirling around. I'm sure that same energy can be felt on the Belgian duo's latest official remix. Continue reading: Arcade Fire x Soulwax - "Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)" [...]

![[Review/Listen] – White Birds – “When Women Played Drums”](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4128447_lg.jpg)
Philadelphia's White Birds were one of the most exciting bands I had the opportunity to discover late last year. Upon first listen to their EP, I found myself instantly immersed in their sun-drenched, nostalgic and heart-rending world. The trio, made-up of James Harvey (vocals, guitar) , Farzad Houshiarnejad (vocals, keys) , and Mike Cammarata (drums) spent the first portion of 2011 holed-up in an old house working on their debut full-length LP "When Women Played Drums" : a chronicle of the painful break-up of a romantic relationship. [...]

Along with The Decemberists, Kid Cudi, Neko Case, Glen Hansard, The Low Anthem, The Secret Sisters and many more, Arcade Fire have contributed an entirely original song to the official soundtrack for the upcoming film The Hunger Games . The song, titled "Abraham's Daughter," can be streamed in its entirety below (via Jimdo Indie Rock Music ) and is available to purchase on its own through iTunes. When speaking to EW.com about the song, Arcade Fire frontman Win Butler went into detail about his inspiration for the song, saying, " I tried to put myself in [...]
Arcade Fire are just one of the huge names contributing to T Bone Burnett's soundtrack for the forthcoming film epic, The Hunger Games (which as you might know, is based on the über-popular young adult book series). "Abraham's Daughter" is the first of two new songs the band has recorded for the soundtrack – and it's sounds f-cking great. Talking to Entertainment Weekly , Arcade Fire frontman Win Butler said this of the song: Continue reading: New: Arcade Fire - "Abraham's Daughter" (Hunger Games) [...]

Here's the other leak off the Hunger Games soundtrack that everyone wants to hear. New music from Arcade Fire is in high demand right now and they deliver something triumphant sounding for the highly anticipated film adaptation of the popular trilogy from Suzanne Collins, the author of the Twilight series. "Abraham's Daughter" sounds fitting for the film, based on what I know from the trailer for Hunger Games , with the vocals laid down by Regine Chassagne . It looks like Win Butler is trying to grab himself an Oscar for Best [...]

La colonna sonora del film "Hunger Games" uscirà il 20 marzo. The Decemberists , after having had an incredibly successful and busy 2011, are already going strong in 2012. Having recorded with famed Irish folk legends The Chieftains on the Bob Dylan cover " When The Ship Comes In ," the Portland indie rockers are going even further by contributing to the official soundtrack for the film adaptation of The Hunger Games. With The Decemberists, Arcade Fire , Kid Cudi, Neko Case, Glen Hansard, The Low Anthem, The Secret Sisters and many more contributing to the 16-track soundtrack, it's sure to be impressive. Today, The Decemberists' track for [...]

5 Songs is a weekly series where we point out the strange, the grand, and the unique connections between our favorite songs. Let’s get weird. Words by Chris There’s a fine line between bashing you over the head and cradling your imagination. There’s also a blend of seething irony that can make or break a whole vision. I’m thinking of the Obama Administration using “Fake Empire” by The National as a song for [...]

It's been almost a year since we crowned The Suburbs as our record of 2010. It was an expansive album and one that pushed Arcade Fire firmly into the big time - it won them a Grammy for Pete's sake! One of it's shining moments came in the form of Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) , an Abba-influenced disco gem that crept up on you at the end of the record and surprised you over and over again. Now, in what will surely be the last bit of promo for The Suburbs [...]
