Arches - "Nowhere To Go" "Nowhere To Go" is from the EP Enough released in late December. There's no denying it: Arches is a product of the Age Of Reverb. You hear it in the mellow ebb-and-flow of the music and the twinkling (but tricky-to-nail) vocal harmonies. It's there in the reverb, obviously, and the overall vibe of a '50s slow dance being held in a vast cavern. Via The Key
Congratulations to Arches whose 2011 album Wide Awake has been chosen as the number one favorite album of the year by Bandcamp Hunter . Bandcamp Hunter is a fantastic music web site that curates a music post a day based on what he finds and recommends from Bandcamp . We were so inspired by his work that we started our very own Philadelphia Bandcamp Hunter feature. And yes, please, come to our first Philadelphia Bandcamp Hunter show at Johnny Brenda's on February 3rd; info here [...]
Julien Rossow Greenberg, the lead singer/guitarist for Arches , has released a new solo song, "Why Are You Always In My Dreams," which you can download for free below. It's got a sneaky, sinewy guitar line that instantly catches you as Greenberg's falsetto floats gently above the reverb-drenched song. J R G - Why Are You Always In My Dreams? by jrossowgreenberg

It's pretty obvious that White Laces wouldn't slow down after an insane 2011. "Dissolve Into Color" is the newest release from their upcoming 7" split with Philadelphia's Arches . Check it out. It's pretty awesome.

Arches - Nowhere to Go In the hazy lazy manner Arches have squeeked in an EP in the final weeks of 2011. Picking up after their full release Wide Awake Tom and Julien have turned up the spacial feelings and like a 3-year-old on the night before Christmas morning, they've created this tension that is released throughout bits and pieces of each track. You can pick up the cassettes that are the EP Enough and their live set from when they played the Metro Gallery in Baltimore just a bit ago for [...]

Philadelphia psych-rockers Arches impress again on their new EP, Enough . Just like Wide Awake - their release from earlier this year - Enough crams melancholy and swirling desperation into steady rhythms and crashing guitar lines. Closing track "Nowhere to Go" puts these traits on full display. A steady, unassuming drumbeat putters along while guitar and bass weave around heavily processed vocals. Underneath all the reverb and echo, "Nowhere to Go" seems to be a song about going back, presumably because there wasn't any place to go in the first place. In that, it [...]
Philly's Arches have released a new four song EP called Enough that you can download digitally and purchase for a "name your price" dealio. They are also selling the EP as a "high quality hand dubbed cassette" that you can purchase here . Arches have been around since the 20102s and slowly but surely have been releasing icy shoegazy jams that get better with each new release. Their latest EP should take these guys to another level. Imagine if in the early days of My Morning Jacket, with all their reverbed [...]

Photo Credit: Tamara Lichtenstein Simply by virtue of the fact that it's both a debut and concept album, Wide Awake , the first release from Philadelphia's Arches , is truly a bold first move and well-deserving of critical acclaim. Throughout the release, Arches deliver a sweet spot between grooving darkness and sparkling lightness that will inevitably draw some comparisons to the psych-stylings of The Morning Benders. The album's lead-off single, "This Isn't A Good Night For Walking", feels distant and airy but has the instrumental confidence to boldly stand [...]
The members of Arches have released a live recording from a concert performance at The Metro Gallery in Baltimore in September. It is being released on cassette, which you can pre-order here . Below, stream or download the performance for free. In case you missed it, you can also listen to the session Arches recorded for Daytrotter here . Live At The Metro Gallery by Arches

Illustration by Johnnie Cluney Arches did a session for Daytrotter that you can listen to and download here . Here's what Daytrotter's Sean Moeller wrote about the band: Philadelphia band Arches, made up of the principle members of singers Julien Rossow Greenberg and Tom Herman Jr., fit the bill. They have the tendencies that would suggest that they would pay particular attention to those threads of sound that might get ignored in the hustle. One of the extra, auxiliary players [...]
Above is the music video for a new song by Arches which can be found on a split 7'' with pals White Laces. The song follows up their fantastic debut 12'' record Wide Awake. The single will be released January 6th on Worthless Junk Records

Arches playing Stereo. It's all very confusing. What's even more perplexing, though, is the fact that the venue is rammed to capacity. This is the Glasgow band's first ever gig, although there's nothing in their performance that could possibly give it away. All five members are slick and highly competent musicians, aided no doubt by the fact that, individually, they can count Jocasta Sleeps, Yashin and Young States as past projects. As much as a degree of professionalism is to be admired, it can also be a little excessive. [...]

The band Arches are known for their contemplative, spacious recordings soaked with reverb. However, their live performances have morphed into an animal possessing quite different characteristics. You still have the well-written, introspective songs that are just right for some quality time alone as well as with someone you care about, but with the addition of bassist Cristian Adams and drummer Kevin Kearney on stage, college pals Tom Herman Jr. and Julien Rossow-Greenberg's dreamy tunes are injected with bursts of energy that bring you back to reality to enjoy life in the moment. The band has recently returned from [...]

Tweet Chosen to coincide with the biblical like volume of liquid that is falling on Dublin this evening, as much for the fact that we love shuffling itsy bitsy slacker numbers like this. Arches have appeared here before and since that time they've got around to releasing their 'Wide Awake' LP. It takes a lot of musical nous to sound this stoned and even more to stretch it beyond the 6 minutes mark without ever sounding tired. The percussion barely registers, [...]

Arches and Banned Books have released a split 103 single on the Philly based Magic Death Sounds record label. Each band contributes two songs. Purchase the vinyl (which comes with a digital download card) here . The songs from each of the bands on this EP nicely complement each other. With Banned Books you get songs with intricate rhythms and catchy indie-pop melodies. Arches bring their more ambient leaning bliss pop to the mix. All four songs make for an excellent release.
